Report Skullgirls 2nd Encore: Challenges, Trials, Voiced Story Mode, and More!

It's unclear who you're replying to, if it's to me I didn't say anything about "fixing" Marie, I understand it is what it is.

Sorry I was referring to @Zazz question about making the new VAs talk in gameplay.

My mistake, sorry.

Good thing there is this handy dandy survival mode if you want to fight a bunch of CPU opponents and itching for a challenge.
Then after a certain amount of fights, 300% Marie enters into the rotation.

Will this have a Ps3 release?

Nope.
Looking forward to this though, read that it might have a physical release as well; if so I'll be buying one for sure.

Oh geez! But I guess if we were able to play our own teams instead of Solo Squig, maybe it wouldn't be too bad. I know can at least beat Nightmare Marie pretty well with a couple characters.

Admittedly though, if there was a secret code to turn down the difficulty of the Marie fight during Story Mode, without restarting the run, I might have caved in and used that code for Beowulf. Marie is usually the only part of Nightmare difficulty that gives me trouble, and while I do enjoy the sense of accomplishment for beating her, the fight often feels like hitting a brick wall. Once Marie gets trigger happy on those Skulltrains, any git gud you got gits gone.

  • Trials
Trials test players’ skills by having them to perform combos. Trials are built on a new button-by-button instructional system to make learning combos easier and more intuitive than ever. Furthermore, unlike many fighting game trials, Skullgirls 2nd Encore’s trials include combos frequently used in real play, from basic bread ‘n butter to more advanced combos.

THANK YOU. I'm so done with fighting games having mediocre Trials/combo trainers (or none at all???? that still happens!)

With this news and PS3 sticks working so I don't gotta buy a new one, I'm really looking forward to trying Skullgirls out again.

OMGGGG SURVIVAL MODE?!!!! MY PRAYERS??! HAVE BEEN ANSWERED??? THERE IS A GOD?!

But, I don't have a Ps4. I have a Vita but...I hate playing fighters on it. I'm gonna get it anyway. Because, that's how much I love SG and want to play survival mode.

I am so getting a Ps4 this year. This is a very big incentive.

Actually... I'm sorta curious about how trial mode will work. I can't wait to see how they teach the player odd timing, like Bella's c.mk, j.mp, j.hk restand, or timing on Peacock's Airdash combos, and whatever else. Also... curious about whether or not we'll be teaching the player the importance of some moves over others in a combo? Probably not that last one, that seems like a lot.

Who's that? Is he a member of lab 0
Not sure if he does any other roles, but I know he voices the egrets.

Survival mode and the voiced story modes are what i'm the most hyped for, tho i still wish there could be something like co-op arcade or something like that, mostly because i played co-op with some friends in Mortal Kombat and that was mad fun.

Did y'all actually have to audition all of those roles or did you just get everybody in a room and play rock-paper-scissors to see who voiced which minor character? lol

I first played skullgirls when it launched on 360. The only other fighting game I had played was a little bit of street fighter 4. After playing through the tutorial and learning a simple bnb in training, I started on story mode on sleep walk. After finishing it, I upped the difficulty and played the next one. I wanted to challenge myself and get better at the game while going through the story. However, when I got to around normal difficulty, it took me twenty minutes to play most of the story, and over an hour just to beat marie. After maybe ten hours with the game, nightmare mode was just the right level for me, but I had to keep playing stories on an easy difficulty if I wanted to see the ending.

Casual players who buy the game want a challenge -- or at least, feel like they're being challenged, and be able overcome it. If they didn't, they would just watch playthroughs on youtube. IIRC, marie did get nerfed a little since launch, but she's still disproportionately hard. Skills you learn against marie don't really transfer to the rest of the game. Casual players won't get that she's supposed to be crazy and hard, in tradition with older fighting games. Countless people on the steam forums made rage quit posts about marie. IMO, she should be the easiest fight in story mode. She could still be hard in arcade, but really, WHO wants to be stuck on marie at the end of the story?

I watched someone who doesn't play fighting games besides Smash manage to make it through story mode and could see a spike in difficulty between every character vs Marie still.

Didn't hold auditions - Cristina pretty much just found people that she thought would fit the character and we went from there.

Can't wait to hear MikeZ belching some lines as a wrinkled geezer and a weighted block of steel.

The new content sounds great. I'm not sure if my brother or I will be able to get a PS4 (depends what's going on life), but the description of trials especially caught my attention. So many of the last 10-25% of a character's trials in fighting games seem so ridiculous to me, like the developers are showing off what (I) can't do as the months go by. It's so rare I can complete all of a character's trials in a fighting game. None for 2-D fighters. One for DOA5U, and some for... SFEX+@. 0.0 Thanks for the info.

I totally never noticed that Samson's voice had changed from Del Stetson to Patrick Seitz. I'm told he already voices the recently added Samson lines, so ggs there!

https://twitter.com/Seitz_Unseen/status/593583795078475778

He just implied on Twitter that he was always Samson and that Del Stetson is a clever alias coming from "Samson and Delilah" and Stetson being a kind of hat.

It is a very optimistic or at the very least comforting feeling that as per the Indiegogo's hope, Skullgirls keeps growing - even after backer money runs out.

We all know dedicated fans are willing to throw money at SG - we've done it once, and we would/will do it again if we hear the call for it.

But I'm glad that Lab Zero possibly achieved something they couldn't before - in early 2013 a crowdfunding campaign was necessary to bring more content to Skullgirls. Now cooperation (to whatever degree) with a big partner is possible and happening without that. The work has paid off, the game has been recognised, or so I hope from my non-dev point of view.

Cheers Lab Zero, you've earned this.

Now THOSE are some EXCELLENT challenges. You want an example of how to learn to play a game, there's one.
They don't tell you HOW to do the things, but if you eventually figure it out you're mostly already a pro.

Here's a question: will these new voices show up in game play? Will Brain Drain talk in Painwheel's fight intro? Will Avery make new bird noises like during j.HK or a new WRYYYYY? Will Tommy & Andy say stuff when falling as Lvl2 item drops or during the Lvl3 Throw Super?

Edit: Or to get really crazy, how about every attack in Double's Lvl3 is now voiced by each of the correct characters?

How high are you

Is Marie going to get super nerfed so that I can play story mode on nightmare and be able to actually finish it?
I would greatly prefer being able to set AI difficulty and Marie difficulty seperately

THIS, it would make life so much easier.

Not for PC yet but still GET HYPE!

Well, I hope this gets released in PC because it sounds too good and I'm not buying any 'next-gen' console.

Does anything transfer from the PS3 version to the PS4/Vita version for existing owners? Like save data, clear progress, or records? I'm guessing no, but I thought I'd ask.

I hope so

If I have to clear the "get all of Peacock's item drops" trophy a 4th time, i'll go crazy</ier>
=P

No, nothing transfers over - there really isn't a good way to do this.

And, sorry, but trophies aren't allowed to unlock off of save data - you have to actually do the thing.

I expect this to happen, it's just we can't confirm it until Marvelous signs off on it. Before we can do it, Marvelous and Autumn need to do some sort of contract amendment, give us the money to do it, etc.
