Hi, I've used motioninjoy and a ps3 controller for about 3 years (Yes, I use the left stick too, had to move to ps4 controller though). I'm thinking it's maybe a hardware issue? Try to go into the set-up/settings part where you get to see buttons light up when pressed. Go wiggle your stick...
