    Actually, iirc, Ice Climbers and Pit were originally going to be in Smash 64, and I'd say that either one of those could count as 'weird retro characters'. Honestly, I'd say we just missed out on one in 64 and got two in Melee to make up for it, so holding out for a retro character isn't crazy.

    Mostly I was blown away that that game was on a Nintendo console. I mean, Mortal Kombat and Duke Nukem were, I guess, but Rare was basically second party at the time. It was kinda like Shadow the Hedgehog in its jarring-ness.

    I played DKR. I didn't play it THAT much, to be honest, but I did like it a lot. That said, I thought Mario Kart 64 was better for multiplayer, if only because it was easier to actually get people to play Mario Kart with you. For the record, my favorite character would probably be Timber or Tiptup.
