Gravity Breakers - New Character GERZIL!

Hmmm, that's a really difficult question since it very much depends on the game. Like I wanna say pushblock, but only on the basis that my favorite games (Skullgirls, Marvel 2, Vampire Saviour) make good use of it. But in a game without such air-tight frame-advantageous pressure chains...

    Tabletop Games Thread (And Roll20)

Nope, we do it live in Discord, split channels for in/out character talk. Totally traditional style aside from being online. Sessions usually last about 5-6 hours or so. We actually use a live-editable google doc image for combat map during battle and moving tokens around via drag and drop...

One more update 'cause the last session was pretty great. >Party member about to lose their soul and be permanently eliminated from the game >Dive into the midst of the enemy (a boss and an entire monster legion), and manage to save fellow party member while risking the same happening to me...

    Shovel Knight is out.

Played about 3 stages of Specter of Torment tonight. Honestly they could have reskinned it a bit and called it a straight up sequel if they were feeling cheap. But as an expansion it's pretty staggeringly good. Specter plays hella fun and chaining upward/downward air dives into wall jumps is...

    Shin Megami Tensei and Persona

uhhhh I read a page ago and I don't feel like reading this one but I wanted to post anyway About the spoilers thing, I feel like an important point is being missed: Why have Atlus get all draconian when it should be up to you to avoid spoilers? Like, when I was playing Trails In The Sky, do...

I think it's more the "hire a mangaka to pen the script and then throw out 90% of his work at the last possible moment" thing. Those kind of sudden 180's are a recipe for disaster.

    Fire Emblem

In-map supports was a thing in the older games. It's not really an issue. Definitely agreed about Fats Vs Awakening. Awakening has the better plot/characters (not saying a ton, though there are a few nice moments scattered throughout, could have been a lot better with more polish to the...

    Shin Megami Tensei and Persona

This will actually be the biggest thing for me: Is the final boss still a big monster that wants to destroy the world because PHILOSOPHY and is summoned by a human antagonist because he's a nihilist Because boy I am sure not tired of that one. Nothing says quality writing like 90 hours of...

    Fire Emblem

Blazing Sword has an interesting ranking system tho IIRC. Interesting for replay. Series was never really about strategy anyway :P No real long term planning in battles other than making use of map quirks over the course of a battle. Shops and levels aren't hard to manage if it ain't your...

No idea. I'll probably look into systems that might be easy for me to work with, or settings that interest me. I won't be deciding for a while.

If imma GM, I'll probably specifically used something I've tested* and feel comfortable with, and for which I specifically have a basic story premise in mind for, so there won't be as much indecision on what we playin'. *Might do a few oneshots to test the water

Played in a session of Nechronica today. Was super fun. Some events: Overall every bit what I hoped the game would be. Drama, black comedy, mystery, and a whole lot of weird. Good shit. Fight felt pretty tactical and fun too. Anyway I'll be in this one for a while longer. Once I feel more...

Games the community is working on/finished

Spent the last week working on the title screen for my game. Got a lot of feedback from a gamedev discord. Still not perfect (the actual art I used is unfinished, the guy who did it left before polishing it), but I'm fairly happy with it, and I need to move on now and get back to work on level /...

    Shin Megami Tensei and Persona

Yeah that's what I was getting at. I think it's fine to handwave lore (to a degree) in favor of aesthetic, but I think this actively compromises the aesthetic in place and what made it interesting. But that's probably enough talk about that.

    Shin Megami Tensei and Persona

~magic~ But yeah like I said, it doesn't fit the cast and settings aesthetic/atmosphere. Normally I'd be fine with hand-waving lore/realism for style points, but this is a case where it's not really a good idea on either level. I actually kinda like the design myself, but it doesn't really...

    Shin Megami Tensei and Persona

Those feel a bit more "logical" to me. Like (DS1, at least) gave you the option to go for routes that you should have been able to go for but couldn't in the original. Felt more like Dark Souls where the artorious area was content that was originally planned to be a crucial part of the game but...
