Any possible way for Arcade Sticks to work on Vita TV?

So since Skullgirls is coming out for the PlayStation Vita, and hopefully will be most likely compatible on the Vita TV, I had the idea that since the device has a USB port on the back that maybe a PS3 arcade stick could possible work with the device. I tried it on my friends but the Vita TV would not read the stick. Does anyone know or can confirm if the Vita Tv can even use wired controllers?

I ask this because I want to be able to play 2nd Encore on Vita TV with an arcade stick to hold me over until I can get a PlayStation 4, since it is crossbuy.
