i have a mac help

So my gaming PC was at another house, but as of recently, complications have prevented me from going to said house.
For like, a while.
A really long while.
So all I have is my Mac at the moment.

I have nothing to play except for a few select games that I've already gone through multiple times.
I would definitely play L4D2 more often, but the frame rate on this computer is so shit.
Everything (save for Cave Story+) is choppy as all hell.
What am I supposed to do? I considered studying up on how to get Windows on here, but that opens me up to way more viruses. A lot of people say it's a hassle to deal with, too.
Does anyone have advice for me? I seriously have no idea what to do.

Oh boy.

Don't run exe's you don't trust, and don't click on porn ads or ads that promise you'll get more mouse cursors and free smileys.
Now you can enjoy all the features of Windows safely, such as being able to play video games.

'You' give windows viruses, windows doesn't infect itself.

Which even then, most of that's the user's fault, I suppose.

If I get Windows on my Mac, I should at least look into an anti-virus software, right? And if so, which one(s)?
 
I have windows on my Mac and all i have installed is Microsoft Security Essentials, i have never have any problems

Two free antivirus softwares I recommend would be

AVG

and Adaware.


Both free and do the virus removing, protection stuff. I think you're probably not supposed to have two separate antivirus programs though because they might start talking and getting ideas, then they start to conspire against you. Maybe I don't know.

Would you say that one is better than the other, or are they pretty much the same?
 
I would go with AVG over Adaware, its what a lot of people at my work use on their laptops and it seems to work well.

So, where exactly should I get started with putting Windows on a Mac?
 
I run Windows on my Mac and I generally don't have any issues. If you're only partitioning your drive so that you can play games on Windows then there isn't much to worry about. Would you mind sharing your system specs?
 
I just use bootcamp and my copy of Windows 7. Be sure to get drivers and all that on a flash drive before you install it through bootcamp. Bootcamp is really good at telling you what to do step by step.

Windows 7? So could I actually go out and buy Windows 7 still, or no? The PC at my house is Windows 8.
 
If you are using BootCamp you will need a windows CD key.

When you have that you can search "bootcamp" in your Mac search and it should pop up

EDIT: yeah you should be able to still buy a CD key for windows 7
 
I run SG perfectly on my macbook, but my specs are pretty different from yours so I can't really say how well your system will handle the game. You'll either have to do some research or just try it out for yourself.

Also, how much free disk space do you have? You'll want to partition quite a bit of space for your Windows side, it gets used up really fast.

Not sure how much space I have, but I'll go look in a bit. I'm on my Macbook right now instead of the desktop, so.
 
Sorry for the double post, but.
I've been looking up tutorials to get Windows on my Mac. Someone's using VirtualBox and a Windows 7 torrent.
Is this recommended, and if so, would it be able to handle SG?
If I can get these few things cleared up, I should be all set to do this.
 
Old thread, but I figured I'd give my 2 cents in case you haven't decided on a solution.

Honestly, I'd recommend Bootcamp. You'll likely experience a bit of slowdown on VB.
Doing the install took a little computer know-how, but it honestly wasn't hard and SG runs natively with no slowdown on my 90gig partition.
