Chaining/Linking assistance, Mostly with B.HK

So, how exactly do I use Parasoul's B.HK in a combo? It seems that every move I do doesn't stun the opponent long enough for me to use it. Is it simply not supposed to be used this way, and only as a mix-up in a blockstring?
Also, I've seen a few players use Egret Call in ground chains in order to extend them, but I have the same hit stun issue I stated above.

Is there some sort of trick to this? Or is my timing just that bad?
 
It's mostly a reset/mixup tool. To combo into it you have to detonate a tear, usually with st.mp. So:
lp mp, hp hp x lp shot
lp mp (detonate) b.hk
 
Ah, ok. Got it. So tear detonations are key then. Can I assume that using Egret Call works the same way, in that a detonation is needed?
