As far as I know, the MUGEN community is more or less dead and Salty is life support.
 
The mugen community has appeared dead for quite sometime. Though I guess Saltybet is their excuse for making broken characters.

I know that there was at least one attempt to make a Filia (first using custom CvS-style sprites, but later switching to actual Skullgirls artwork), but I'm not sure if anything came out of it.
 
Nah. There are tons of other OP MUGEN characters out there. Like Light from Death Note, who can do the obvious action.

Also, their AIs end not to be the best around.

Dead? I don't know if I'd say that. Things were still being made months before Salty Bet came along, especially with the more recent return of Elecbyte in 2009 with the release of MUGEN 1.0, and with MUGEN 1.1's beta being public as of a few months ago. Now, is it as active as it was before? I don't know, because I lost interest in MUGEN for a while after 2010. Not all parts of the community are alive anymore, but Mugen Guild is far from dead. I'll agree that Salty Bet sparked interest again though. I doubt the sudden urge I have to make MUGEN stuff again would have popped up otherwise.

Since I'm posting in this thread again, I'd like to put a small plug for myself right here if no one minds me doing that. I do a stream sometimes where I work on MUGEN stuff. Nothing spectacular, because I just make dumb stuff nowadays for the most part. The main thing I've been working on a is a character with things suggested by lots of other people that I know, so its extremely random. I sometimes add in code to screw up other characters too. Wanna see some of it? Check out my signature and look at my past broadcasts/highlights. I'd just like to state that some of the problems being shown in those oldest broadcasts have been fixed now.

Also, feel free to suggest things you wanna see in the character! If I like the idea, I'll add it in!

You can never completely run out of Salty Bucks; there is always a minimum number of Salty Bucks you can have. This is called your "bailout". When you first start playing, the bailout is just $10. The more matches you bet on, the bigger your bailout gets. You can see a full list of all of the bailout amounts here:

I have bet on over 15000 matches, so my bailout is $105 Salty Bucks; I can never go beneath that amount.

Being stuck at a ridiculously small amount of Salty Bucks is called "being in the salt mines". The definition for the Salt Mines differs from person to person; some people say that you're "out of the salt mines" once you have more than $100 salty bucks. In my case, I consider it more around $1,000. The high-rollers claim to be in the salt mines if they have anything less than $10,000...
 
I just checked on the stream and I found out the HUD is different now.

I'm not sure if its better or not.

It'll be interesting to see on tonight's special.

Both brand new, old veterans that have been touched up or patched, and some other familiar face.s
Might wanna get on that now, but no rush!
We still got 1236 characters to sort into tiers!
 
i hope tomorrow's shaker set has more "CANON" match-ups. those tend to be the most enjoyable.
 
Speaking of Enjoyable, during the chat today some assholes started talking shit about Touhous and Waifus and how they were flooding Salty Bet and why they've lost viewers.
Like, seriously guys? Come on.
A large portion of Saltybet's enjoyability comes from Waifus and Touhous.
Even if there's a lot of the same Touhous (or edits), at least they're consistantly fun to watch.
Most DBZs aren't fun to watch because they all tend to have the same set up/look to them.
While Touhous are just vibrant, colorful, and awesome.

Only real problems are DBZs, and even those, we barely see those anymore, thank God.
 
did this new update have any Skullgirls characters?

i'd hope with the sprite compendium release a few months ago there'd be something like that.

It got updated just 2 days ago, I only learned about it today.
No Skullgirls characters I've seen just yet.
But there already are some funny as Hell characters.
There was a Shadow Rugal who scams by posing and having Segata Sanshirou's theme play
 
Things I hope to see on tonight's special:
- More Imagine Breaker Touma punching those illusions
- Cirno proving she is the Strongest
- Sayaka vs. Homura. I gotta know how Madoka Movie #3 ends.
- Much Less Rare Akuma/Barney/Donald/Boshy
- SKULLGIRLS! *tosses cash into the air*

i just checked to see what was happening on the channel and apparently there's a tournament starting up right now to test some new update

soooo . . . hype?
 
Apparently a new system is in place?
From what I've heard, every 40 matches we get a tournament match.
Or was it a Shaker?
 
Oh yeah, they modified how Tournaments work.
Now it's every 150 matches, then Tournament, then 15 exhibitions, then back to regular matchmaking

you aren't missing it. its still happening right now on leveluplive on twitch.
 
There is only one MUGEN SG character (Filia), she's incomplete, and she's very boring to watch/play. There won't be any SG characters on Saltybet until at least one is done to some satisfaction, probably.
 
If Filia's actually played on Saltybets she's probably as complete as she'll ever get, and from the sounds of it she's a potato as well, or B tier at best.
 
Since OT's back, thought I'd bring back Salty Bet's thread.

Haven't been any updates lately but there's a LOT of new stages
 
Double post, but Salty Bet EX5 update is live, new characters, new stages, and a few new songs.
Apparently we get Tierless betting at random this time too, nows a good time to check shit out.
