Update 2: The books are back in stock!

Update:
The books are currently out of stock, but if you're still interested in purchasing them you can request a restock on the shop page.

Some of you may have been aware that Kinuko, Skullgirls' Lead Animator, recently released an art book for sale online. Unfortunately, many others only found out about that after the book had finished its online sale period (though if you catch her at a convention she should still be selling it there!). As I'm sure there's plenty of members on this forum that would like to be kept appraised of these sorts of releases we'll try to post news articles about them whenever they crop up in future.

Lucky for you, the future starts today! Alex Ahad, Creative Director on Skullgirls, has just put his own current set of books up for sale on Nucleus. These books were first released back in March and were only available from Alex directly at conventions, so this is a great opportunity to snap them up if you haven't been able to travel. It should be noted that neither of the books on offer is actually a Skullgirls art book. They do contain a few Skullgirls images, but that is not the focus of the books.

[prebreak]Keep reading for a brief rundown of the books' contents.[/prebreak]

The first book is Monster Girls, which is a collection of Alex's extensive original character designs. As the title suggests, very few of the characters within are human. The book is full color and includes his own original designs and also covers some of the work he did while at Gaia Online. It clocks in at over 90 pages so there's plenty to pore over.

The second is Shades of Grayscale which is a collection of fanart. This book is the smaller of the two at 70 pages and is all grayscaled pieces. If you're curious to see some of Alex's favorite characters in his very distinct art style this might be worth checking out!

Many of the pictures in these books can be found on Alex's deviantART page if you want a better look at what to expect.

Monster Girls and Shades of Grayscale are $29.95 and $14.95 respectively and can be picked up on Nucleus.

I saw a good bit of Monster Girls on Ahad's Tumblr? a while back. lol Either way I saw it and I enjoyed it - specifically the char Fallout. She's quite interesting. Just nice to know Ahad has more in him than Skullgirls, y'know?

OHOHOO~ GLAD I ORDERED IT BEFORE IT WENT.

*Stares intently at book next to hand lotion*

Make sure to properly moisturize your hands so you don't get paper cuts
Good thinking there champ

I'll probably buy the monster girl book after i buy the skullgirls compendium. Hope it stays around that long.

No guarantee the latter will be going on sale, and no guarantee these books will be up forever~

Also, forgot to mention above that Monster Girls is automatically the best because it has Wendy the Spider-maid in it. I got Alex to draw her on the back cover for the copy I have.

Wendy da best.

Also the above picture is in the book.

Also also, Minette is on the first page so it's clearly the best god damn art book around.

>45$ shipping to europe

yeah, i don't think so.
sad, really, wanted the MG book after seeing Cellsai's copy at evo

Dropped.

I picked up a copy of Shades of Grayscales (don't remember if I paid that much, lost track on what I bought that weekend rip wallet) at Fanime artist alley last year. Even got a little sketch in the back from Ahad too as a bonus.

Highly recommend purchasing if you want to own a collection of Ahad fanart for various other videogames/anime.

GOD DAMN IT I NEED MONEY NOW
IM BBBRRROOOOKKKEEE!!!!

To everyone in the Euro boat: maybe y'all could arrange a bulk order and then have the recipient ship them out to everyone involved? Might cut down on the price a little.

Can't believe they're both already out of stock.

Now would it be too much to ask to get a figure set for SG? The val statue's nice, but I don't live in Japan...

(You know you all want that!)

Yes, a Fortune figure would be nice... >.>

Damn, no money. Will they ever be restocked again some time in the future or is this it?

I really really REALLY shouldn't but I think I may be getting both.

So the consensus is that Monster Girls is worth the purchase?

If you like Alex's stuff, Monster Girls is the perfect representation of it. There's plenty of stuff in there I'd never seen online before so it's a nice thing to have on my shelf.

Thanks for the quick reply. After around a day of dancing around whether or not to buy them, I sprung for them. First time I've supported something Skullgirls related that wasn't the game itself.

Personally I'd be much more likely to purchase a Skullgirls Art Compendium than a T-Shirt or any similar merchandise, simply because the nature of the art style would make me pretty picky on getting a discrete shirt. I know all Skullgirls Merch is currently run by 3rd parties, but in the future, with the IndieGoGo promises off Lab Zero's plate, I think it would be a pretty neat thing.

To all you Euro bros, how much does shipping a book from the U.S. to Europe cost?

Maybe you guys could hook up with someone you trust and have them buy with your money the book and maybe half of shipping and send it over to you?

Some of them should definitely be in Skullgirls 2!!!!

Sorry to burst your bubble but it's likely a lot of these designs are for Alex's other projects/worlds or just designs he scrapped together.

A good lot, if not ALL of the cast for Skullgirls is here and decided.
