Doesn't everyone love Sonic? - The Sonic the Hedgehog thread.

i would think that's enough to make people treat it separately

People still bring up Sonic 06 like it's relevant almost 8 years later. They love to poke at the "Sonic Cycle" and talk about how bad Sonic is now and how good he once was.

They'll bring it up.

those people are fucking stupid and won't survive the winter with how weak they are
the weak are meat for the strong to eat

Really hope you're not gonna take that to its logical conclusion.

More like "illogical conclusion" :PUN:

On topic: I have absolutely no faith in Sonic Boom, but in the end, my opinion is not relevant. I entirely gave up on the franchise after playing Sonic 4: Episode 1, and Sonic Boom is clearly not another attempt to bring people like me back. To try that once more would be pointless, as rabid fanboys like me will never be satisfied, and Sega will never find that certain thing that was in their 2D titles that has not been replicated since.

Sonic Boom is for the people who still have fun with Sonic.

So to everyone who still enjoys the series, have fun with it, regardless of the opinions of people like me.

As for me, I will be in the corner over there, squeeing in anticipation over Freedom Planet being the Sonic game I've wanted for years.

It comes out THIS MONTH! I'm SO HYPED!!!

E3 Gameplay from the WiiU version

Looks alright to me. Nothing special. It'll fall pray to Kid Icarus Uprising Syndrome, however. Constant banter between characters is a love-it-or-hate-it type deal. Personally I enjoy it, though I can understand not.

It looks all same-y, though. Every stage was pretty automatic and every boss was >lasso enemy >throw it at boss
Yea... it kinda does.

At least Amy is pretty much better in every single possible way. Her voice is decent, her movement actually looks rather nice (I think that was a triple jump she had, if I'm not mistaken), and her dialogue did not consist of nothing but "SAAAANNIIIICCCC!!!" I'm glad to see the guys working on Sonic Boom actually trying to improve her character.

Too bad the rest of the dialogue is-

HEEEEEEY THERE ARE THINGS INSIDE THESE THINGS

Yeah.

This looks pretty much exactly like Heroes 2

From the team system, to how it's laid out, to how much they talk...

Not sure if want. I'll still buy (contractual obligations with The Sonic Show, blah blah) but I don't think it'll be anything amazing.

Less Sonic Boom, more Sonic pfffft.

It reminds me of Crash, so I kinda like it. Gameplay wise that is... we'll have to see how the game does when it launches.

Well, it's made by Naughty Dog devs, and I'm getting serious Rachet and Daxter vibes.

"You DID read the instructions on that thing right?"

"Yes, YES! Only had two tools left over this time!"

Fucking lol. The writing is really dumb and goofy in a great way. Everything else looks alright I suppose.

It feels hit or miss. When it hits, it hits good. When it misses, it really misses.

I just hope it never takes itself seriously. I actually really like this hilariously over-cocky Sonic.

Isn't that him all the time?

Not really.
Adventure to Heroes was him being radical, Shadow to 06 was him being naval-gazey and boring, the storybook games had him fun and light hearted, Unleashed had him being a typical hero type, Colors to Lost World had him being non-sequitor and sarcastic.

This Sonic almost feels like a dick with how sarcastic he sounds, and I love it.

I think the best Sonic's ever been, writing wise, has been Colors. Tails and Eggman too, they were really going for that Saturday morning cartoon vibe and I think they hit the nail on the head.

That was actually written by the Happy Tree Friends writers (alongside Generations and Lost World) and it saddens me that they aren't helping out with Boom. Let's hope the next mainstream Sonic series game features them, as remember, this isn't a new Sonic, but a different Sonic.

They also did the writing for Mad World, that one SUPER HARDCORE OMG BLOOD GORE AND TITS game for the Wii. Along with those writers, I hope they return to the boost mechanic. Loved that shit. It worked really well in Unlesahed and Colors and was almost perfected in Generations.

See, this is the problem though with the Sonic fanbase.

You like both the writing and gameplay of Boost Era Sonic. I know at least three dozen people who HATE everything about both the gameplay and the writing.

The Sonic franchise is so huge and long and experimental that there's clear divides between fans and that causes wayyyyy too much friction.

Trust me, I moderate comments on the YouTube channel and good god do some of these people have vendettas against everything that isn't Sonic 2/Sonic Adventure 2/Sonic Colors/Sonic 06 (it SOMEHOW HAS FUCKING FANS)

I love the Sonic franchise. I hate it's fans. With the exception of cool fans like the music artists and game makers like LakeFerpard

I've just become such a curmudgeon about everything that I hate fans of things in general

I like the platformer/beat-em-up segments in the game so far. Hopefully, the high-speed action does not rely on the auto-running segments much and and the bosses will be more than just hit and lasso and throw enemies at them. Other than that, the voices are talkative, but not bad, and I like how Sonic attacks the enemies.

Oh, and I did a thing today
