Indivisible: Lab Zero's Action-RPG! (General Discussion)

how do you message youtubers anyway?
Normally they'll have some sort of contact information on the profile section of their account, or else Profile -> About -> Send this user a message

Double posting because ain't nobody gonna ban me.

This question has probably been covered before, but I assume that the voice acting that is already in the prototype is a placeholder, because I haven't seen any mention of the VA lineup. Would it be fair to assume, then, that (for Ajna at leat) Lab Zero will be looking for a voice acting talent of similar ethnicity to the character herself?

thanks, I'm too old to keep up with youtube changing their interface every now and then, I'll be contacting some german let's players, especially I want "gronkh" on this one, he liked Ori and the blind forest and his ~4million subs would be greatly appreciated

in other news, I stitched this together and I'm really impressed but the image turns to low quality at one point in the video, is there an official image of this in better quality anywhere? love me some lovecraftian space horror entities

I don't think there's a public version of the image, but if you get in touch with one of the artists they may be able to help you out.

This is odd to me - I mean sure we'd be looking for someone who can do the accent we'd like, but does their ethnicity matter if the accent and talent is there?
I mean, the Demoman's VA is a white guy from New York.

The quality of the voice acting is paramount, so as long as they can do the accent well and they're a good voice actor to begin with, that is the main thing. I agree that the final product is more important than demographics of the people who work on it. With that said, there are two reasons why having someone from that background would be a good thing:
1. The "Americans won the Battle of Britain" thing. As an Australian, I've often heard people overseas try to do an Australian accent and while it can be well-recieved by the people around them it still feels foreign when you come from that background. Similarly, I've seen a lot of Scottish people complaining about how nobody who isn't from Scotland can do an authentic Scottish accent. Getting someone from that background (though not *necessarily* from that country themselves) eliminates this possibility, simply because they aren't pretending to have the accent - they actually do.
2. The game will get publicity because it has a protagonist of an ethnicity that isn't often seen. If eyes are on the game because of perceived diversity, it would be a mistake to not at least look for someone who reinforces that?

another question that I've not seen pop up yet: will there be a DRM free version? I know it's an issue for some folks
not me, I'm online 24/7 anyway

Accents never have to be the real thing, just close enough.

Also, they will probably be using the Califórnia pool of talent

I've been to Scotland and had people there ask me what part I was from. :^P
I also had Russian people ask me what part of Russia I was from after the SG announcer.

It might be more likely that we'll end up with matching ethnicity just because this is not an accent that's super popular to practice...but to me, this question is ridiculous. I think making a big deal about us hiring a person whose ethnicity is "appropriate" is full of just as much crap as making a big deal about us not hiring someone like that is.
Sure, we'll look, and we'll go with someone who has the accent naturally if they're awesome, but we're not going to pass over someone amazing just because they are not from the "correct" background.

Well, the Steam version is not physical, and the physical version is not Steam. Steam obviously has it, but I don't really plan on sticking DRM where it is not already required.
I mean, I'll probably look for something easy to check if it's pirated along the lines of sqrt(Fish) or Earthbound's hilarious stuff, but no connectivity-required BS.

Adding DRM is a hell of a lot of work for...basically no payoff. People crack it and pirate it anyway. And if your DRM is dumb enough, people pirate it specifically to AVOID dealing with the DRM.

FWIW I completely agree - I guess my question was more about whether accuracy of accent was going to be as important as general VA chops, but then in defending the point I ended up talking about something different.

You can also look at that as hiring based on race. Though being a performance exempts it from discrimination laws, people who care about the game being diverse could still find a bone to pick with that.

True. I think I put what I was trying to say very badly - I'm not going to delete the post but I do retract any argument that the VA's race should have an influence on the casting, because that was not the point I was trying to make, simply that the quality of the accent has the potential to be just as important as the other VA skills of expressiveness, etc.. I've simply had too many games ruined for me because of an Australian accent that makes me grind my teeth, and I'd hate to see a similar thing happen.

(I'm not going to use mod powers to enforce this, but can we change the topic? I didn't want to turn this into an issue at all.)

We should organize something like "Streaming all the IGG campain the prototype" diferente persons, diferent channels to diversify and reach all the posible interesed people.

I messaged a couple youtubers I have on my subscribe list asking them to check out the IGG and prototype. I can maybe look for a few more.

Another alternate avenue of advertising: Aesthetically, Indivisible seems to have a lot in common with Avatar: The Last Airbender. (Gorgeous animation, Southeast Asian culture influences and other varied nationalities. It's not a perfect comparison, but considering my interest in Skullgirls comes from loving the aesthetic in Bioshock, maybe the leap can be made for other people, too.) I'm only vaguely familiar with the show, but does somebody who's more into it think the AtLA fanbase would be responsive? I had a couple friends who were really into it, but they haven't been online lately so I haven't been able to ask.

alternatively, the speedrunning community due to the Super Metroid influence, but I have no idea how one would go about contacting these people

Mmmmmmm, dat navel, and dat underboo- wait what the hell IS that thing?!?!

My school has chalkboards in the bathrooms cuz the president of the school figures having those as an outlet will prevent graffiti.
So I've been writing "support indivisible on indiegogo!" and stuff on em.

edit: we're a small college, so not expecting much gain, but you never know if someone's a secret millionaire going to a school no one knows.

I've thrown in $140 for this so far. I was going to wait until next week's paycheck, but it occurred to me that crowdfunding campaigns probably have a feedback loop property to them*, so getting it to a decent percentage of the goal quickly seems critical.

Conjecture, assuming people not already invested will be reluctant to invest if the people who should be invested aren't putting much money into it.
I'll probably upgrade to the plushie tier after my next paycheck, though. I have a lot of young cousins and some of my older cousins have young children, so it will have a good home.

If I'm understanding your sentence correctly, I'm afraid I'm one of those people. I put in my $60, but the rest of the crowdfunding money I budgeted for this month has to go help the TFH campaign's final rush... The fact that there are people like me who are caught in between the two campaigns.. I'm wondering how much of a real impact that'll have. I really want both of them to succeed...

Don't worry, I'm not referring to you, because you have put in money. Maybe not a huge amount, but I was referring to not putting in money at all. I'd say you are investing into it, $60 isn't nothing, and it looks like the campaign will be chugging along on people throwing $30 into the hat, if for no other reason than that it is the most popular tier at the moment. Given that $30 is a pretty reasonable amount of money to throw at something, that tier will probably be featured for the duration of the campaign.

Yo, one other thing you can do? Whenever you run across a video or review about the game, remember to have a quick look at the comments - there might be someone asking for a link to the campaign, who has a question about the development or something else, and it might only take a quick reply to nudge them in the right direction.

rad haircut yo
And real cool voice!

Money's coming in, gonna drop more than what I did for SG on this. I really want this to not only do well, but soar higher than we all thought possible.

Enemy name question: What is the boss in the prototype called?
Ryin's video, five posts ago, is called "Manote Boss." Is that the name?

The other enemies have all been introduced except for the boss:
EDIT: Nevermind - went over and read the speedrunning thread and Mike Z answered it is indeed "Manote."
Man-oat? Ma-no-tay?
