RWBY

That sounds like an interesting concept.

We are in the ripe of the merchandising phase. Not cheap, but not too expensive for figure standards. I would be very tempted to pre-order if there was a bonus for doing so. Otherwise I might hold off, still three more figures coming too.

Hopefully it won't be as trope-y as Season 1
I mean I like RWBY but DAMN, SON!

S1 main purpose was character introductions and world building so S2 should be a more enjoyable viewable experience since most of the slower stuff was taken care of. Not to mention I believe the episode length is gonna be longer now.

12 episodes of 12 minutes each, rather than the inconsistent length of the first season

RWBY 2nd volume promo showcasing the new opening animation
This is still the 1st season since each season will consist of two volumes according to Monty. It debuts July at the RTX convention and online soon after.

for a second you can see a lot of things

As long as Nora gets more screen time I am down with whatever. I figured I'd hate her immediately when she showed up originally, but hot damn every one of her scenes in the forest fight were awesome and she got progressively less annoying as time went on.

honestly, by the looks of things it seems like Pyrrha is gonna get some decent screentime this season
not to say she didn't already but it looks like she might get some development too

The series has a lot of potential, do they have a bigger budget for the next volume? Hopefully it will have better writing and less out of place anime humor.

Of his own free will? How odd.
I'm curious but can the Z-engine use actual 3d models for the playable characters or is it sprites only?

It's sprites, but everything is rendered in 3D. We have a skeletal animation system but we only use it for the stages.
Though I personally wouldn't make anything 3D.

I'm also hoping for better writing. This and better voice acting. There are some bits of dialog and acting that bother me and I definately think they could do better. That being said, the season finale fight scene has got to be my favourite action sequence of the series.

I rewatched a bunch of the episodes there and I now remember one of the things that really bugged me about the series: the walk and run cycles.

They're not synced properly to how fast the characters are moving. Whenever characters are running anywhere in particular, they move faster than they're running, so it makes them slide across the ground really strangely. This is really evident with the Grimm animals who look like they have less time put into them than the humans, but it can still be seen in pretty much any fight scene involving running between the fights.

This was something that really bugged me in Red vs Blue too, and even in Haloid back when I first saw that.

About 0:34 in the Volume 2 OP shows this pretty clearly, albeit briefly:

The characters also only have walk and run cycles for moving on flat ground. Any time there's a slope or a ramp the animations look really wonky.

Monty's updated his rigs since the first season
I think the animation will be definitely improved

hopefully it will because that's always been a huge peeve of mine with Monty's animations.

I've pretty much dubbed these as "the soap shoes"

The V2 OP has both Grimms and team RWBY ice skating already, so if that's using his updated rigs my hopes are not too high.

The other animation bug I have is many of the animations don't have proper finishes. They tend to snap into final positions quite noticeably, particularly when two characters are interacting. Watch where Jaune grabs Phyrra's shoulder in the OP at somewhere around 0:30.

I know these sound like pretty nitpicky details that I'm over analyzing the new OP for, but the fact that both of my main issues with the shows animation are demonstrated in the opening shows how widespread they are.

I am aware of how small the team is for the show, so I'm totally willing to cut them slack on this stuff. Either way, the show is still fun enough despite these animation glitches, but they do get under my skin a lot and yank me out of the show. Same goes for when the lip syncing drops.

@Cellsai you're not the only one whose noticed and is bothered by the ice skating and solid poses. Hopefully it'll be better in season 2.

For all we know, Monty did this before his model updates? If I remember right, the new models have boob physics, sooo I guess look and see if Yang's bust is flopping about.
I am actually sorry for only remembering the boob physics.

Yang's have jiggled as far back as her original reveal trailer, so maybe they're bouncier now?

unless monty feels like donating 500k for them that might be a little out of the question

Wow chalk me up as a hater but I find the show to be pretty dull and horrendously cliche / unoriginal. Character designs aren't bad per se, but they dont' really invoke anything either. I think he's much better suited as an action choreographer or what have you than being at the helm of an entire series like this.

That doesn't really matter though, he's having fun and loving it so I wish him all the best.

I fucking loved Dead Fantasy though. God damn all of that was fantastic.

This is surprising, but it's way too soon to get excited for anything big. I know Monty expressed interest earlier though so who knows? It could just end up being merchandising collaboration or possible cameos. This is a good opportunity for LZ to develop more connections though that may turn out beneficial for them depending on how things pans out.
