Big Band Story Mode Discussion - MASSIVE SPOILERS

While I can see where you're coming from, personally I'm glad they teamed up because I am not a good BBand player =p. I predicted they would team in the end and thanks to the Brass assist, it only took 2 tries to beat Marie!
I was a little surprised that Big Band didn't start on point, considering it's his story.
I think that was done to emphasize the fact that Big Band himself said he was going to act as Peacock's support in her rematch with Marie.

I officially am filing big band as one of my favorite character, he's so wonderful

Time to ship Leduc x PW tbh. #Kreygasm
Well, Painwheel is in the background of Leduc's original art by Alex.

I guess that can imply some kind of future connection?

guys come on, the reason big band was behind peacock was because anyone with sense would've switched her in anyway

peacock/bb for life

Nice to see more of the Lab 8 crew I really like their designs. Speaking of that I like Leduc quite a bit more than I used to now that I've seen those scars on his face, I wasn't expecting that.

really though, peacock on point was actually a pretty cool design decision.
If you're an inexperienced player, you probably will wind up getting the point character killed. If peacock gets knocked out and big band swoops in to save her ass, the battle goes with the following scene perfectly. If big band dies and peacock saves his ass, the following scene is kind of awkward.

I still want Irvin to be playable

I'm not sure if that's the way it's supposed to be, but there's no story art for Big Band in the game. Was this the case when Squigly was released as well?

I still want Irvin to be playable

I still want every character playable!! (Observation to piss DBB: Even Annie :P)

Lets hope Lab 0 dont stop after the 5 IGG (well... we already got one more :D)

Irvin's kind of different. He's not a dlc character.
Which makes him the most important character to not be a potential dlc character that isn't dead. By a landslide. For whatever reason, he was explicitly left out, and it's probably not because he's not good at fighting considering characters like Minette and Stanley are potentially playable.
It's because he's secretly Regina

Really good story mode. No random battles. Lots of art, coherence. Good development. Set up a high bar.

Although it was nice to see a happy ending for Carol (and the rest of the people) I must say I like the tragic story modes more.

I was very happy to see Ms. Fortune eager to kill and dumping in the river suspects of being mobsters.

I am really positive that after the last two displays of heroism, we are getting bloody darkness in the next one.

tbh for some reason i think nadia's action was a bit uncannon to how she actually is

Nah, Nadia was raised on the mean streets of New Meridian by a gang of Dagonian thieves. Her violent reaction towards Big Band was definitely in character, especially since she thought he was a Medici goon.

Besides, we already saw in Bela's story that she has a murderous vein against the Medici.

She is very passionate. The cat really LOVES her familiy and really HATES the mafia.

Story mode was really sweet, didn't expect to be able to see BB's face like that in the cut scenes. Really happy with how the quality of the story mode presentation has been evolving with him and Squigly and I'm looking forward to seeing what the other characters bring.

I also like how I set the difficulty to normal so I wouldn't have to sweat Marie and just enjoy the story, then just get handed the team I've been using to shit all over her on nightmare for months at the end.

i dont really follow the story for skullgirls so most of it went over my head tbh, but theres some really nice artwork there. will be cool when they update the art compendium with it..

I love how BB's vernacular is just.... SOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOD!

While I'm not a big fan of the Story in general as a game mode, I have to say that I did enjoy Big Band's a lot, especially with a lack of random fights! Probably my favorite story to watch and play as; Squigly's story was pathetic, Filia's was kind of a letdown, and Cerebella's was just average in my opinion. Maybe I oughta do it again.. I do have one big complaint though: I think that too many characters were put into his story compared to everyone else:

First, he Butts Heads With Cerebella
  • Next, he fights a mirror match of Double (Laaaazy!!)
  • Then, he clashes against Peacock
  • Later, he combats with Ms. Forutune (I felt this interaction was kinda lame and purposeless, but that's just me)
  • Afterwards, he engages in battle with Painwheel
  • And now he is tussling with Valentine and Double (again). I get that they're the antagonists, but does almost everyone have to fight them? Pretty Lazy interaction in my opinion.
  • And lastly, he fights Marie, with Peacock on his side.. Whoopeee!!

I think I would've liked it better if they decreased the amount of interactions and kept just Bella, Peacock, and Painwheel.

On the Theonite, it's also what Isaac uses to power his Power Glove the gauntlet he uses for time-trippin'. Maybe one of the future stories has him in it (it would be interesting to see him interact with an Eliza that's still in Skullverse!Egypt)?

Quick question, I always thought the river king and medici's were two separate groups with no interactions with each other. But based on Bella, the Medici's have some stake in the River King Casino. Has that always been the case?
As for the story, like the fact there was a reason for all the fights but thought squigly's was much better

I'm still on a huge high from playing that storymode like 50 times. Big Band is excellent and I very much enjoyed him laying down the verbal roast on pretty much everybody, but Valentine and Double most especially. I also really liked that Lab Zero (the developers) finally got their shit together and made a storymode where every fight actually had context and plot relevance. Finally! Keep doing that, guys!

On the topic of Theonite: it appears to be the SG-verse's "Does Anything The Plot Requires Mineral". It powers the Skullgirl, Parasites have it and it's a component in Synthetic Parasites, it can be used to power time-warping devices, et cetera. If there's ever a need to explain how something mysterious works, boom, slap some Theonite on it and you got your reason right there, probably. "Theon", from the Greek "theos", means "god". More than likely, the stuff has a connection to the Trinity--theos can also be used in the feminine to mean goddess.

Also, I feel the need to point out that Peacock calls Big Band "pops" toward the end and that shit is cute as hell.

I think Squigly's story had more of an... epic feel to it? (I swear I'm using epic in the classic sense here, not the modern "omg lel so epic XD" sense.) Big Band's is the storymode that just makes all around the most amount of sense, but it felt... smaller in scope to me than Squigly's. Not sure why--maybe it's because Squigly's storymode like, immediately jumped into crazy amounts of action and didn't really stop for anything? Big Band's story felt a little more easygoing to me, I'd say.

Not that I enjoyed it any less. It wasn't as "hype", sure, but I love love love all the cameos that came up. There was a ton of character interaction and banter in there and it was just fun to watch. Kinda nice to have a story that wasn't like, totally soul-crushing, too. That was by far the closest thing to a happy ending we've gotten in a storymode yet.

And yes, to my knowledge, the Medicis have always had a stake in the Casino. It seems that their influence extends into nearly every single nook and cranny of New Meridian, whether that be through reputable business or underground dealings.

No you're not the only one. Ileum's the Mom, Big Band's the Dad, and I'm totally shipping that shit.

And Avian is the granpa, Stanley is the cool uncle, Hive is big sis, Leduc is bigbro and the other kids the little siblings.

Lab 0 are te black sheeps (or vultures, if you wish).

I wonder if it is possible to tweak the other story modes in the future to have a similar quality.

Thinking about why there was such a good ending for Big Band's story mode, I would say it would be because of the protagonist's maturity. He already had his share his of action and drama and is a full fledged experienced hero.

I wonder how an alternate path for this story would go. Maybe he would reach Marie before Peacock and end fighting her alone. And in the final scene Peacock would give his hat to one of the Lab Kids.

Can we just get, like, a family sitcom featuring Lab 8? Is that a thing we can do? Because I would watch the shit out of that show, just saying.

I don't see the individual storymodes being updated anytime (in the forseeable future, at least), mostly because they aren't actually canon anyways. Once the canon storymode finally comes about, I'd assume they'd be wanting to focus their story-producing energies on the character interactions that'll happen in that. And whatever comes after it would actually have canon to be based off of, so. Yeah.

Knowing Peacock, she'd keep the hat and put it on top of her own hat for MAXIMUM HAT. But let's not go down that route. This story made me happy for once, don't make me sad. Don't do this to me. ):

Yeah... The updated stories are more like wishfull thinking on my part. Gotta admit. Still, it is great to see the minimum quality to future stories being set high. I hope this sets an example for other fighting games (like the new KI).

About sad endings, I must confess that I am addicted to them (Mind of Steel of the Fate Stay Night series is one of my favorite endings of all time). Specially if it is paths with alternate routes, because in them, it makes the good endings even more sweeter.

In this video, Alex Ahad talks about the story mode, right in the beginning:

Don't take path B

Last: If anybody is having a hard time against Marie, with Peacock j.wk-hk. Big Band j.mk-mk

re: Medicis. Ottomo and Vitale can actually be seen chilling out in the balconies of the River King, so I'd say they've firmly dipped their beak in there.

There was definitely a different level of excitement to these two storylines. BB's was pretty mellow. Each event just happened one after another like clockwork, and it was basically just him doing his mission to kill the Skullgirl.
Squigly had a very personal tie to the Skullgirl and her story opened with Marie throwing a skyscraper at a zeppelin, then her showdown with Double and tag teaming with Filia... it all just felt a lot more urgent than BBs.

I definitely rank Squigly's higher on my favorite story list, but BB's had so much interaction with the cast that I really enjoyed it for the dialogue alone. I have a feeling that Theonite mention in the River King is going to pay off in Eliza's.

Also, total side note, but I love this nasty side they showed to Ms Fortune again. I quite liked how borderline psychotic she was in Bella's story. BB just looks mildly suspicious and she immediately decides to murder him, chop him up and throw him in a river. Fucking hell.

Last: If anybody is having a hard time against Marie, with Peacock j.wk-hk. Big Band j.mk-mk
Also, Heavy Shadow of impending doom > Call Big Band Assist + Georges. Once on level 3, BB tuba super until dead.

I just hope eliza and beowulf stories are just as good as this one
The sass in the double/valentine scene was godly, I'm going to go play it again acutally

"Bassafrass" is my new favorite name for BB.

I also like how we get to see some sides of the characters that aren't so prevalent in even their own stories (i.e. Peacock's actual kinda chill side to someone besides Marie and the Doc instead of the rebellious, slightly insane side we know and love).

Also, Big Band's face without the mask hnnnnnngh

Best laugh I've had in a while.
Is this the Battletoads joke I keep hearing about? I never played it so I don't get it.

Did everything a story mode should in a fighting game.

1. We got a strong sense of Big Band's personality.
2. We learned Big Band's past, as well as his present purpose.
3. We learned of his relationships, both past (such as with Irvin) and current (Peacock, Stanley, etc).
