Fighting EX Layer

I can not find the video for the life of me, but on April 1st in Japan, they released a video showcasing Street Fighter EX 4. Considering the date, we thought it to be a prank. But it's apparently real.

Street Fighter EX was by no means perfect, but I loved the characters and always wanted to see them again.

We better have the one and only Skullamania in this.

Edit: Video Found

I mean seriously this is way too much work for just an April Fools...

Not to mention that it's in bad taste to tease like that something people actually want and hope for.

Given that this is his studio's 20th anniversary, it seems to real to go through all this as a joke.

Earlier this morning, the studio followed up with another trailer announcing its 20th anniversary.
Arika is hosting a small location test where participants can win prizes.

Also, Street Fighter player Toxubai said, Arika Nishitani has announced the working title as "Fighting EX" or "Fighting EX Layer" during the broadcast.
It would seem that the developer may finally be getting around to creating a home version for fighting enthusiasts.

don't worry man. This gonna happen. We just have to be SUPER VOCAL about this. Let the publishers know, YES we WANT THIS GAME!

Well, they do have a Facebook and Twitter. I hope they understand frantic screaming in American.

Skullamania right now

TRULY YOU ARE A KINDRED SPIRIT! I cannot wait to see him again. I need more toku in my fighters. I'd absolutely faint if Captain Commando ever gets resurrected.

Overall, the game looked great from April, can't wait to see what they've added to the Evo build!

Garuda's already in that old footage, but I'd love to see Cracker Jack, Volcano Rosso, Blair, Pullum

Time for a title change! Do want all the charaters from fighting layer as well!

Character Backstory
■ What is Gougi?

In the past, Garuda (a being made up of the lingering grudges of powerul warriors who fell in battle) was sealed by the Hayate clan.
Although Garuda was resurrected once, thanks to the self-sacrifice of a Hayate descendant, he was sealed once again. However, feeding on the energy released during Kairi and Hokuto’s battles, Garuda was resurrected once more and became a demon that seeks out powerful souls in order to devour them. Gougi is the very embodiment of a fallen warrior’s spirit. It contains Energy, Power, Skill, and Secret Techniques.

Powerful souls can join together with Gougi to draw out new powers, but those with weak souls are unable to resist the Gougi and end up being corrupted.

■ Who is Shirase?

The true identity of “Hokuto,” once the bloodline seal placed on her was released. The illegitimate child of the Mizugami Family; to hide her real identity she took the name of Hokuto and jointed the main family. She was brainwashed at infancy and given the mission to kill Kairi, but once the spell wore off, “Hokuto” became no more.

With her final will, she sealed her younger sister Nanase’s memory, so that she could live a life as a normal girl.

■ Characters

Kairi

Backstory: Having lost his memory, he is now locked in an endless battle with other powerful warriors. Garuda has been following Kairi around the globe, feeding on the powerful spirits Kairi releases in battle. He is Nanase’s brother, and Shirase’s half-brother.

Shirase

Backstory: The true identity of the assassin Hokuto, after being freed from the sealed placed on her. With her final will, she erased Nanases’ memories in order for her to live a normal life. Having lost the ability her feel emotion, her only mission now is to kill Kairi.

Garuda

Backstory: A living corpse acting as the vessel for a countless number of powerful souls; he is made up of lingering grudes and resentment. Originally existing only to fight, in the flames of battle his sense of self became twisted and he turned into a monster that seeks to devour all other powerful souls.

Once, a great warrior sacrificed his life to seal Garuda away, but after resonating with the powerful “dark energy,” he was reborn. A descendant of the Hayate clan once sealed Garuda in his own body, but was eventually taken over and became the new vessel. With the energy released during Kairi and Shirase’s battle, Garuda was able to resurrect himself once more by feeding on the spirits of powerful warriors.

Skullomania

Backstory: After finding reemployment in a very good position, he is living a productive life as a salaryman. However, he is troubled by the fact that he has no recollection over the recent Skullomania appearances. That doubt has given birth to new powers. He has a pet dog named Pochiro.

Darun Mister

Backstory: The undefeated champion of Indora Pro Wrestling. After the God of Indora spoke to him in a dream, Darun resigned from his role as Purun’s bodyguard and made his way to Japan. He was utterly defeated by Garuda and left on the verge of death, but he was protected and saved by Gougi. He is now a man completely determined to face Garuda once again and defeat him. He is incredibly hot-blooded.

Saiku or a mod needs to change the title to just EX for now as this is showing NOTHING to do with Street Fighter at this time.

Which is a good thing.
1. Capcom seems confused that people even like fighting games lately.
2. Capcom would find several ways to ruin any chances this game has to be successful.
3. As much as I like them, I really think people have seen too much of Ryu and Chun Li lately. It's time for a break.

Wasn't ever a fan of Snider, but I like the new look! Will give him another chance!

I've never played a SFEX game but that is the most "I'm an American made by a Japanese person" design I've ever seen.

So the dev were on Daigo stream https://www.twitch.tv/daigothebeastv
There will be 10 characters at launch and maybe 19 down the road
Beta in December
They have almost no money at all and cant do that much
PS4 only at the moment

I'm fine with limited rosters if the characters are good. I guess they are doing the old fashion way to get funds without crowdfunding which sometimes can be hit or miss even if the game is good (if the game sells they may add more than 19). I will try the beta to give my input. Be sure to use this twitter https://twitter.com/miharasan for feedback after you play the beta.

These are the characters they can add on the mystery fighting game they are from the EX series and the other half is from Fighting Layer (Published by Namco but Arika owns the characters)

Can someone explain how does the arika ownership of these characters actually works?

I mean, they're street fighter characters, and why would Capcom allow someone to create a roster for their game and not keep the rights for it?

Because it was a collaboration between Akira and Capcom to bring Street Fighter into the 3D space, and Akira being the one to develop the original characters means the rights defaulted to them, or the rights ended up split. Maybe Capcom just didn't care enough to put transferring character ownership in the contracts, maybe Akira insisted they keep ownership and negotiated well, maybe Capcom just forgot. The Street Fighter wiki actually suggests Akira kept the rights because the EX characters were too heavily based on characters from other franchises and Capcom was worried about getting sued.

None of us are lawyers or privy to deals made behind closed doors, so we're kinda stuck with speculation. But keep in mind Capcom doesn't fully own the rights to Strider Hiryu, either, so maybe this is just a thing they used to do.

This game is seriously getting me hyped, I wanna see what this game's version of Cracker Jack is gonna look like if he makes the roster.

In his honour:

Well that's the first time I got impressed by this game. Doctrine Dark looks really cool, especially with that perfectly made crazy look in his eyes.
