Hello my beautiful wonderful gorgeous people who I all appreciate very much. So now is the time to start busting Chicago maneuvers and thinking about what exhibitions we can conjure up for the BIGGEST TOURNAMENT OF THE GOSH DANG YEAR.

Here are some ideas we've conjured up!

-EC v World 10v10.. again? I mean i'm kinda looking to do something different this year but if people really want to make this tradition speak now. Or if you want to add a twist to it speak up!

-Old School vs New School 10v10

If you played Vanilla or SDE in tournament, you're old school. If you went to NEC14 (MDE last supper) and up as your first tournament you're new school. We play a 10v10 because I've been thinking of draft teams in my head and WOW both teams are equally disgusting. Its actually unreal.

-SG WORLD CUP DRAFT IDEA (S/O Jarred)

East Coast, West Coast, Midwest, Brazil, Japan, and Europe.

Teams of 2 or teams of 5(if somehow possible which I doubt) go down in a round robin and may the best team win?

So this is what we got for right now. SO, here I am making the discussion open to see what people want to do or what ideas people want to suggest for the exhibition! I can run it for you too and you get the credit and i'll do the work for you! So feel free to bring up ideas!

Saturday Night Salt is a separate thing entirely which Kai runs and organizes so this isn't to discuss that, i'm sure he has wonderful plans in mind for that.

Discuss away much love

I still would LOVE to see an auction tournament, but would that be separate from this exhibition that you're trying to decide?

Someone else can do that if they want, I don't really have any interest for it.

+1 for Old vs. New School that sounds like it'd be helllllllllllla fun to watch

i would definitely vote against EC vs world 10v10, we did it it was a lot of fun, but its the kind of thing best done as a one-and-done feel me. Old school vs new school sounds really fun but before deciding on it as the event I'd want to see who is eligible for each side, there are a lot of people who I would have thought would be new school because I hadn't heard of them until 2015 had actually been playing for a while (cloudking is the obvious one who comes to mind). Obviously old school is gonna be stacked but as long as new school can give em a run for their money I think it would be really fun. World cup might be cool but idk how i feel about a RR of 2-man teams (if we even get 2 from each region, BR and JP only had 1 person each at CB 2016 right?)

Idea for exhibition thing that I don't even know how I feel about yet but its something that came to mind so just throwing it out there: take "established teams" of top players and have the bracket be 3-man teams each playing one character in each team? not sure how it would work and the more i talk about it the less i like it but idk

No one really responded to it in the thread, but I guess if we're posting our ideas, then here was the one I had and posted in the focusing community turnout thread:
What if we did a fantasy league for everyone who placed under a certain placement (say, under Top 32)? Have everyone pick x players and/or y characters. Every time x player wins, or a y is on a winning player's team, you get points. Have whichever 2 players score the highest get the chance to draft 5 players from the tournament and be the team captain for an exhibition 5v5. Whichever team wins, the player that drafted that team could be awarded a prize, monetary or otherwise.
It could provide more investment for players that aren't super good, give people who don't invest time into learning a reason to watch high level play more closely, and perhaps give some other people a reason to give the game and try to enter events. It would also just be really fun, I think.

I've been tossing some ideas around in my head for auction tournaments. Still figuring out the best way to do it. Can't guarantee it would happen but I'm going to make a push for it if people are willing to toss some cash at it. (no point in bothering if the highest bid is gonna be like $13)

Old school new school would work based on the first major tournament you ATTENDED.

MDE and up new school
Pre MDE Old school.

Cloud, Sage, Lazy, Shade would all be new school, for example.

Also just bring it up when you want I guess twerk all good

If there is some sort of 10v10 at CB 2017 would people be open to having a different sort of format? I think someone mentioned this in the last thread when talking about EC vs the world, but having "lives" or something might make it faster. So something like having 3 losses allowed per player so if you lose one game but win the set the next person only has to win 2 games against you to get to the next person.

I'm new school right

No you'd be old school, you attended the SDE ECT tournament and EVO2013

Old school is Vanilla and SDE
New school is MDE+

I can never tell if you're serious or not haha so no, you'd still be old school.

-Old School vs New School 10v10

This would be fun as fuck to watch.

Can all the old school people have a 90's pun in their name and all new school candidates be named after dubstep or something like that?

man i wanted to be on team newschool too

If there is a 10v10 or other large team tourney, I really advocate for elimination/waseda style. There's actually less maximum possible matches than pokemon, and if you have the team order set + tournament mode, shit's just as fast. You get to have everyone play, and you get a better idea of team vs team rather than this dude on my team is better than whatever # of players on yours. My 2 cents. Good luck

I only didn't do Waseda the first time because I thought Rick would prefer that as the main TO, but yeah i'm COMPLETELY down for Waseda if people are willing to do it.

It does take a little more organizing, but with teams and especially team order already set, then there's no reason not to imo.

Yeah for sure, we'll plan it out IF NS v OS is what people want to do.

If we do New School, I wanna be in it. Thats given I go to CB, still in the air

Like people have mentioned above, we can have Pokemon-like matches where people organize themselves into groups of 3 and face off against other team of three. They'd have set orders and the first person on both teams would battle it out. When the first member is defeated, that second member is sent out to fight, etc, until all three members have been defeated, like in Pokemon. I've participated in such a tournament twice, and it built a sense of camaraderie and hype that I'm sure will be awesome to have at CB. ^w^ This is an example of how the bracket looked like. http://challonge.com/WTFteams

We can also do what alot of other games do:
Pick 2 captains, then have them pick players one by one

Yes, a 3v3 team tournament. Which we aren't doing because that takes up way more time than a exhibition. This thread is for exhibitions not a whole other tournament. If Rick wants to do SG teams we can but thats up to him with time constraints and stuff.

Does anyone object to old school v new school? This seems like what it will be unless people can think of something else or really object to it.

I wouldn't say I STRONGLY object but I would prefer to do an auction tournament.

I would like to see something other than the 10v10. Recycling the exhibition in players, format, or size is very unappealing to me.

Hmmm okay let me sit on it and think of something else, any ideas or thoughts you have on it Rick?

I like the Old vs New and the Draft ideas listed above. I'd just like to see both in a format different than a 10v10.

Hmmm okay, most people seem interested in Old vs New so i'll think of a way to switch it up!

I assume 10v10 waseda instead of Pokemon doesn't switch it up as much as it should so ima hit the drawing board.

Okay. Here is a thing that I saw at CB that looked stupid hype and I really enjoyed watching: the SFV character tournament

Or at least, I think it was called that?
What if we have the character lock tournament: each player can only pick a solo character and we do the whole bet on which character will win?

Since its CB, most of the specialists for each character will be there and a lot of match-ups are pretty fair.
Dunno how we'd decide the players for each player, but I'm sure we'd have more than enough volunteers for each character.

EDIT: We could also combine it with OLD versus NEW. New players like Lazy and Cloud could pick from DLC characters like Fukua and Eliza. I dunno.

We call those auction tournaments. They are one of my favorite things.

What might be hugely entertaining is Old players being auctioned off to unfinished teams of New players in a 3v3. How much would a team pay for SonicFox? For 159? Etc. Would require a lot of front-side work but I could see that combining a lot of ideas here successfully.

Yeah, that's the name. Thanks.

I was sitting in the crowd watching SFV and yelling for Birdie not to fucking lose my money from the side-bets.
Even though I don't play SFV, it was really fun to watch.

How much would a team pay for SonicFox?

I can see this bringing in a lot of non-SG players to watch the exhibition.

I second the notion of an auction tournament. Has this been done before for SG?
