Moderator Problems and Rule Clarification Requests

When someone insults or trolls another user in the general art forum, I step in and tell them to stop
If that's the case, then why did you do absolutely nothing when people started attacking my original posts? My responses in that thread were the direct result of being refused help by all of you. I couldn't let it go because EVERYONE was treating me like shit, even the mods.

warnings/temp bans = absolutely nothing.

I was not around from late December until early February. All of that first stuff went down when I was unable to get to use the forum and I decided it was better to resume moderation from when I got back online instead of delving back through all the threads punishing people for stuff I would have stopped had I been active. You'll notice that as soon as I start posting again around February 15th I immediately start shutting down the Squigly 'discussions'.

My absence did mean there was basically no one around to moderate the Art and Non-Gameplay Character forums, which was a bad situation and I apologize to everyone involved. That issue that has since been dealt with by having a bigger overlap between myself and @WayForger to share duties in The Gallery if either of us ever disappear again.

Well at least you finally acknowledge I was put in a "bad situation" in that thread. Regardless of what I did, it's still bullshit that I'm made to suffer because of that.

@LockjawsSaga? Did you get my mp3 file for my retakes on Samson on Skype?

Uh, this isn't a place to discuss about stuff other than Forum Moderation and Rule clarification requests?

Sorry! I'll ask it somewhere else.

Ffs people, this is an internet forum. Nobody cares who you are. You guys need to step away from the monitor once and a while, sheesh.

Onto a better topic: I wholeheartedly support McPeanuts for gameplay mod. He's knowledgable about the ins and outs of Skullgirls gameplay, posts meaningful and useful content, and keeps a cool head. I mean, the dude watches his own videos to improve on gameplay stuff. What better reference is there?

Llama guy would be good too; he posts there quite frequently.

Nope, it ain't. If moderation applications open, a dedicated thread will be made for it!

Edit: This posts' images make it huge, I'mma spoiler it. I make no notions that this is funny but I only had an hour of sleep and by george I'm gonna have a laugh. This is also directly responding to LockjawsSaga so I dunno if it matters to anyone else either
That's not my fucking point. My point is that I was the only one who's ever been singled out on this, even when there are people here who actively draw Skullgirls porn.
They weren't reprimanded? I'll talk to moderat0rz and see what the hax is
Did you not see where I specifically said "I ask for moderator intervention and am offered none"? Learn to fucking read.
Nice coming from you, considering you're the one who actually APPROVED of my initial Squigly post. If you'd never said anything I would've taken it that no one was interested and none of this shit would've ever happened.

You're right, I saw a butt and I thought it was something. That excuses the rest of the back-and-forth in that thread I guess? This also doesn't count as(ass?) approval?

Additionally I'm pretty sure despite me looking like I encouraging something doesn't mean it's OK to have an attitudes?

Additionally, isn't pornography or risque content like, one of our rules now?

Uh no, I changed it to that before this even happened. Pay attention next time.
a6df49b515.jpg

You.. still did it, though? From an average viewer it's gonna look related, and I sure as hell ain't gonna assume it's not?

I can already see people telling me I'm being too pissy in this post, but I have every right to be. All my valid contribution, and it apparently amounts to NOTHING to you people. No matter what I do and no matter how friendly I am, I've always been constantly attacked here, and now shit like THIS happens. Tell me again how I'M supposed to be the villain here?
Weren't you only banned from one thread? Do what you like?

As it stands, I've applied 0 moderation things to you and mostly slapped other peoples wrists before leaving it be entirely. My previous post is basically just what I see from the glances I take in that thread and overall forum climate; Art forum stuff ain't my jurisdiction for good reason *wipes sweat off brow*

I also shouldn't be bringing this up from a page ago but I am doing it anyways I don't even moderate that subforum I'm just gonna jettison myself forever from moderator duties

It was a (fairly large) photograph of a planeside view, presented without context in a thread about visual novels. The new OT rules don't make room for image macros or other likewise empty posts, and that's what your post looked like. If that wasn't the intention, feel free to remake the post with a little more context!

Which thread was this?

Edit: NM Found it.

RrfObFA.png

How was posting a random large image with no context a relevant post to the topic? If this was some obscure reference to a VN then the vagueness needs to be elaborated more because otherwise it's harming the thread with this kind of clutter.

Since when were the rules to be followed based on thread post count?

This cloud formation is called "Morning Glory" and the central story point of If My Heart Had Wings!
It was supposed to be a test to see whether the reference would be understood, as 500 people just posting "I like VN X, who else likes it?" gets boring very quickly

So instead I made ~smart post~ that
- people who don't know the VN and don't care about clouds will just gloss over
- people who don't understand wtf this is about but like the clouds get interested in and can ask me about
- people who played the VN understand and can feel proud about understanding my mad reference game and can continue on (eg "I liked this too, but shame the western release is All-Ages")

I was very proud of my post
And you deleted it
Shame on you

Since when were the rules to be followed based on thread post count?
You really don't think that's ridiculous? That you deleted a post because it was "cluttering" a less than 1 page thread? If this is the logical conclusion of a rule, the rule needs to be reevaluated.

Don't get on him, he didn't delete it! That was me. If someone makes a post whose sole content is an image that is (seemingly) unrelated to what's being discussed, it doesn't matter if it's on page 1 or page 100, it's equally irrelevant to the topic.

I believe my deletion was justified for the reasons I wrote above, but apologies to IsaVulpes since it was intended to be a discussion-generating image.

Not gonna be able to discuss much on this right now since I'm typing this on my phone, but your gonna have to bear with it with either another mod or with me later since I'm currently busy doing backyard work on a sunny Friday afternoon.

Anyway, your missing the point.

The reason why that post was moderated at all in the first place was because the post had reasonable doubt associated with it which is why I can see @Flotilla did what he did. Bringing this up again here but I guess it still needs to be repeated: Intention is irrelevant if it can be reasonably perceived differently.

Here is a sample scenario: I take a picture of my current unfortunately overly neglected weed infested backyard that has dog shit everywhere. I post this picture [in a relatively large size and not spoiled too] on the PC beta discussion thread with no additional context whatsoever. Chances are I'm gonna be reported for that post along the lines of "shit-posting [no pun intended]", "derailing" etc.

As a response I counter with "B-but you misunderstand my deep cryptic message! The weeds represent X, the the dog shit represents y, and the water hose represents Z so not off topic with this beta discussion!". Yeah that kind of posting habit is a great precedence to encourage.

Your allowed to be make witty on topic posts with cryptic meanings to show off your knowledge on X subject, but if your post is gonna be cryptic at the very least get rid of the reasonable doubt that the post can be perceived as OT shit posting that doesn't exactly benefit the thread.

Since I'm a nice and reasonable guy I'll even offer some acceptable solutions:

1. Pick a better picture that isn't as vague to eliminate the reasonable doubt , but still delivers the same cryptic message. Just don't post image macros, unacceptable rule breaking images, etc.

2. Keep the same picture, but actually have a brief written message associated with the picture to get rid of reasonable doubt like "Guess the VN reference?" Or "First person who guesses the VN reference right gets a like" etc.

3. Even better: combination above the above two points.

See when I first saw this message the thought that crossed my mind was "This is either a vague cryptic VN refererence [which is what it ended up being after Isa finally decided to offer some relevant context], this is just common OT shit-posting that the forum is greatly familiar with, or even this was a legitimate mistake because the post could have been in the wrong thread".

While I understood the possibility that Isa had no bad intentions in the post, but the fact of the matter was the post invited reasonable doubt and the thread happened to have a staff present who acted accordingly.

Also the 'threads should be treated differently based on thread post count' logic is asinine. It invites a whole host of new problems. What arbitrary thread post count should be acceptable threshold for mod enforcement? Does this mean new threads early posts can be anything? What rules are allowed to be enforced sometimes? etc.

Anyway I'm done with this discussion for the time being as explained above. If you properly revise the deleted post then it should be fine if you still care about this issue. I imagine you would care though since you saw the need to publicly announce this 'injustice' here in the first place.

If there is still some further issue that you need to discuss publicly or privately with me I won't be able to respond for a few hours give/take, but I'll be happy to respond to any questions, concerns, criticism, praise, whatever. Have a good day.

I'm gonna say shame on @Flotilla for deleting it before giving vulpes a warning for it.

The post is very vague, yes, but deletion is supposed to be a last resort, not a hair-trigger; and that goes for all mods, in all subforums. The image itself is not a macro, but it is given with no context. This kind of ambiguity should have been approached with a warning first, if anything.

I agree that at least a single sentence of context would have helped dissipate any negative impression the post would have, but I don't agree with such a harsh measure be used so soon, especially with one of our users who is not normally a shitposter. I'd have given him the benefit of the doubt and PM'd him at the least, and warned him at the most.

All mods please note: Always warn first.
A single off-topic post is not enough to warrant deletion on the basis of "getting rid of clutter".

The reason you'd need to delete posts to get rid of clutter is if a long series of off-topic posts take over the entire thread. This is the kind of extreme situation where deletion is required, not one-offs like Vulpes' post.

I want to make a Notable Players thread, but I'm not sure what subforum to put it in. It's not quite off topic I feel because it's relevent to the SG communtiy, but it also is not purely taking tournament based results. Help please.

I don't want to say anyone is the best. I just want to get Player names, a list of their tournament results, what team they like most, region, amount of time playing the game etc.

Exactly. @WarpedEcho , you just described the thread I made, lol. You're doing some sort of art piece or something? We'll, "get it," when it's done, I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You are missing the fact that you made it based purely off tournament and recorded results, with a few outliers for online warriors. You also locked your own thread, making it impossible for anyone else that could be considered relevant from online or offline unrecorded gatherings to be able to be nominated. Please try to reply with a little less sass next time as well, I don't exactly take kindly to it, and find it to be rather rude.

Can we ditch this thread and just make a "Notable" players thread instead.
You wanted that thread closed, why are you bringing it up now like I'm casuing you some sort of hardship? Besides, your sass was plainly visible in that thread. You wanna give shit, that's totally cool, man. Don't be oversensitive when the shoe's on the other foot. It's not a good look.

Come on. We're all the same here <3

...wasn't meant to be some sort of, "power ranking."... This thread is pretty much complete (for what I intended to gather), so I may close the thread when I feel it's reasonably indicative of top talent.

An indicative list of top talent is pretty much a power ranking, I don't exactly know another definition of it. Also, you closed the thread on your own will, and while you certainly had a little help from the hostilities in the thread (myself not innocent in this regard) I did not implicitly want you to close it, that was not the intent of my post. What I did want was a thread for a biographical list of players who are passionate about playing the game (not just discussing the characters or the lore) that people can look out for. This list can be more comprehensive than one based solely on Tournament results and recorded results. I apologize for somewhat instigating a response from you in what happened, but I am also somewhat disappointed in the way you handled it, especially considering you are a moderator. A little more grace in the form of your response to me and others would have been nice.

Night Phyre why are you being a bitch? Someone else making a better version of your thread is not a reason to lock their thread.
peanuts why are YOU being a bitch? lol

Nobody locked anybody else's thread. I locked my own thread.

Let that and night phyres thread serve as an example of how shit goes down when you ask this kind of question on skullheart.

My original thread was to see what up and comers to watch video of playing not so often seen characters or for people/players that have highly original styles with said character. I dont live in the US so i cant play any of them to see who is good with their characters outside a tournament setting.

The long story short of the thread is that basically everyone that made top 16 in some tourney ever wanted to be on the list, and then the people that could sometimes beat those people, wanted to be on the list, and then the people that were just under THAT level were mad that they werent on the list, then some players got embarrassed and started to nominate anyone to throw the list out of wack.

That kind of thread can easily survive in a mature forum, but i learned there that sh was nowhere near as mature as what was needed for that kind of thread to survive, let alone flourish. Its been over a year and night phyres new thread would suggest that nothing has changed... seeing that it was closed so soon after it started.

So the challenge for warpedecho if he wants to make another thread like that, is to keep the thread relevant, yet somehow appease those that dont make it in. If everyone makes it in, then the thread is useless because it has no standards. At which point it is about as informative as looking at what players post in the gen discussion forum alot, and just saying that they are all good players because theyve been playing the game for years now.

I don't want a list of "Skilled" players. I want a list of "Notable" players. A little bio, team(s?) played, experience with the game, etc. This way people have a directory to see people, like I said before, that are passionate about playing the game, not just the lore. I've said this already, and am sticking to it. If the thread goes downhill, then it is what it is, it can be locked or deleted or whatever. But the format I am looking at is not just for the "ultimate" players. It's for well known players, as well as lesser known players, who love the game, and enjoy playing it consistently. People can look at this list and say, "Hey, these guys really like the game, maybe I can ask them to play" while still holding relevant information pertaining to that person's personal experience with the game. This way, newer players can play with people they feel they can be comfortable with playing against, as well as perhaps more veteran players that are more acclimated with the game, but perhaps not the forums or the communities.

Oh my bad. I misunderstood the situation. I am sorry I called you a bitch.
It's ok. I said to myself that I would 100% let it go if you apologized, and you did. Thank you.

Okay so my thread is coming along nicely, but it's beginning to look a little cluttered, even after reporting posts that have been added to each list. Can I get a mod to clean up the thread a little? I have added everyone that has posted up to here. Also, I know it is a little early for this, but could it be considered Sticky material? I think it's better than having a matchmaking thread that you have to glean over for over 8 pages.
