Shantae Series

Duuuuude, Shantae is pretty and all (both the game and the girl),
but how can you say that after seeing stuff like this?
I meant I care more for the Shantae setting after one game than what it took Halo to do in 3.

Also you can really tell Shantae was held back by the GBC's format, it probably could've had more, but it did have some ambitious and great ideas. I mean I loved all the dungeons and their gimmicks. The polarity was the hypest thing in the game.

I'll pick up Risky's Revenge sometime this month, when I don't know.

Then they topped themselves ten times over in the next few games.
Shantae was definitely held back, but now with this new sequel I feel that the chains are finally going to be broken.
I can't wait to see what 1/2 Genie Hero will look like, that Skullgirls animation skill is going to do wonders for it.

Yeah, pretty much. It's so hype.

Also, this is kinda unrelated (and I will NOT link it because I don't wanna get in trouble), but whilst browsing Tumblr, I saw that someone drew some...ahem. Selfcest art of Shantae and Succubus Shantae.
Well, that didn't take long.

Anyone want Risky with her hat off? I'd love to see it.

I don't think NSFW is against the rules as long as it's spoilered and appropriately labelled as NSFW. I think I saw that somewhere on here as a rule, but I'm not totally sure. *goes to look for rules*
EDIT: Checked the rules, NSFW not allowed.

Already linked it to the people interested and I've already been informed.
Thanks anyway.

Still though, kinda surprised how quickly it happened, lol
Doesn't surprise me too much, this is the internet after all, lol.

Who the fuck is this bitch, looking not as evil as per usual? PUT THE HAT BACK ON!
Oh come on, even the villain would have her days off. I bet that big old hat would be super hot to wear around Sequin Land's more tropical areas.

NO EXCUSES! PUT IT BACK!

NSFW Posting
"Please be considerate with your posting of Not Safe For Work art anywhere on the site. Before you post anything, consider if you'd be happy if your boss, teacher, parent, etc saw your screen. If you think they might disapprove, hide it behind a Spoiler Tag and clearly mark it as NSFW.

Outright pornography or excessive mutilation and gore cannot be posted here. You're free to link to places off site, but mark them as NSFW and explain the severity of what the viewer is about to see."

So what is considered outright pornography? Is any nudity at all not allowed? If so that's ridiculous, there is plenty of art that involves the exposing of some naughty bits that I would feel is totally fine to post here as long as it is placed behind spoilers marked NSFW. Although the thing that Jutsei is talking about sounds much more intense, I still feel that it would be fine to post as long as it's just the link placed behind spoilers marked NSFW.
Judging by what I'm reading here it seems that if handled correctly it's alright.
I am also interested Jutsei...

It's worth noting when she gets hit enough in Shantae 1 the hat flies off...
Why do you think I never beat the game? The hat stays on!
Actually it's because the emulator would die at desert levels.

Ah, internet, once again you've both impressed and disappointed me simultaneously.

I need to know who this is and what she's from, 'cuz this looks amazing
I think her name's Kebako, and she's from Cat Girl Without Salad. Unfortunately, WayForward is probably still leaving the game as a joke, but maybe they'll do something with her one day. She fits right in with their lineup!

Oh, and there's actually a neat little soundtrack for the game too.

Ok. I'm going to go estimate how much work it would take to mod Cave Story with this chick.
if you saw the screenshots for their april fool's joke with her, you could tell she was never meant to be a serious character.

So now that Half-Genie Hero is aside..

Super hyped for Pirate's Curse, it's gonna be great and you can just tell.
Kinda sad they more or less spoiled what's gonna happen though.
Since Half-Genie hero is a sequel you KNOW Shantae's gonna get her powers back and still only be a half-genie.

NO! We need to keep the money flowing for half-genie hero. it needs more money before they start working on it. I want fully voiced and animated cutscenes.

Then you can keep donating too I just suggest we gear towards Pirate's Curse since it'll be out soon
Why not do BOTH? We shouldn't ignore the possibility of all the goals being reached for the sake of something that is confirmed to be out soon.

lol Yeah, there's no way they could nail a game with all the stuff in the April Fool's post, but they could probably come up with something close. Maybe a a "Tower Defense/Puzzler/Shmup" could be kinda fun, like a mashup of Lumines and Fantasy Zone or something.
Not sure if you guys listened to it, but it has a Street Fighter Ex with a very little splash of Pokemon feel to it. It's really good.
It's crazy how WayForward draws out some the sickest music talent, even for joke games!

All the news that's fit to post!

Hello all of our wonderful Shantaerians and Tinkerbackers! We thought we would give you guys and girls an update on all of the goings on here at WayForward since the Kickstarter campaign ended last week:

The Crunchyroll Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Fan Art contest has come to a close! The winners were selected and we'll be sending their prizes out as soon as we can. Here's the Grand Prize winning entry from user 1127066:

There were tons of amazing entries so if you haven't already, stop in and check them out!

Our PayPal Store now updates the PayPal Total automatically! It currently does this every 15 minutes so you can keep your stretch goal nail-biting to 15 minute intervals ;)

By popular request we have added an option to our PayPal Store that allows backers to manually enter a pledge amount. This option is not attached to any particular reward, so we recommend using it only for upping your existing pledge. Or simply for donating out of the kindness of your heart ^_^

We should receive the Kickstarter funds in the next few weeks. At that time we will begin contacting all KS and PayPal backers to discern who has made multiple pledges and if/how they would like them consolidated. That will let us know how many of the limited quantity reward tiers ($350 and above) are left and we will then add the remaining stock to the PayPal store. So if you are still interested in getting your art (or face) in the game, don't worry we haven't forgotten you ^_^

We are in the process of redesigning our entire website O.O When it is finished it will include a Kickstarter Forum that will be a dedicated location for all future updates and also where we conduct our voting and any other fun Half-Genie hijinks :P And best of all, this allows our amazing community an area to continue chatting away about all things Shantae!

And don't think for a second we've stopped the hype train now that the campaign is over. We have been hard at work on interviews and promotional materials to make sure everyone hears about Shantae: Half-Genie Hero. We want to hit those Stretch Goals!

Hey Guys, Girls, Monkeys, and Mermaids, it's time once again for a handy-dandy (shmandy?) update! While we're hard at work getting everything over here at WayForward ready for a year's worth of belly-dancing we thought you'd like to know about a couple of fun things you can enjoy in the next few days:

I stream, you stream, we all stream for Live Stream...ing! That's right, WayForwardTV is back tomorrow night, October 17th at 6:00PM PST, with another evening of Live Streaming with "Retro Night". WayForward Game Directors Jeff Luke, Adam Tierney, Tomm Hulett, and James Montagna are back and will be playing and discussing some of the classic games that have inspired past (and possibly future) WayForward titles! If you joined us for our last few streams then you know they are tons of fun! If you missed out on the last one, now's the time to check them out! And best of all, they'll be giving away download codes for our newest release...

That's right, Mighty Switch Force! 2 is being released on Wii U in North America tomorrow, October 17th, and the rest of the world on October 24th! It has been scaled to 16:9, is presented in pixel format, and can be played "off-tv" as well! Trust us, it's purty ;)

And finally, for all of our backers that followed the campaign closely, scoured every announcement and pored over every update, we thought you might like to see the level of professionalism that went into creating each of our videos in this behind-the-scenes look at the behind-the-scenes:

This is the Spooky Update

Hello Boils and Ghouls! Welcome to our Halloween…ish update! We’ve been up to our eyeballs in pirates and half-genies but thought it was high time that we came up for air long enough to share some news with ya’ll!

First, some bidness

The new website redesign is coming along nicely and we're super stoked about it. We hope to have it live in a few weeks and then the real fun can begin! We don't want to oversell it or anything, but in our unbiased opinion it will be the greatest website in the history of the internet. Fact.

We have received our final list of Kickstarter backers and begun the arduous task of collating all of the data. Who knew that 18,558 backers was so many people? I mean, we knew it was a lot, but it's like, A LOT a lot. And that's not counting the PayPal backers O.O We expect to send out emails to all backers (both Kickstarter and PayPal) in the next week or two to determine who has pledged multiple times and on which sites.

Once we have gathered that info we will confirm that the proper accounts are connected on our end and then confirm those backers' desired reward tiers and combine their pledges accordingly.

Once all current pledges are combined we will have accurate quantities for the remaining limited reward tiers ($350 and above) and put those rewards on the PayPal store.

So for those of you who have been asking, we'll let you all know very soon (thanks for your patience ^_^)

Costumes, Clubs, and Shows of the Regular kind

Guess what? Apparently it's Halloween next week! I know, we were just as surprised to find that out as you are. The last time we were in any major department store we bought a Christmas tree and some Easter eggs. Anyway, we thought what better way to celebrate than with a Halloween Gamer Costume Contest!!

We were blown away by all of the incredible fanart that you guys made for the Crunchyroll contest and figured there are probably a lot of you that get dressed to the nines for Halloween.

So dust off your Mario caps and make sure your Sonic sneakers are clean because our 5 Favorite Videogame Costumes (any videogame, not just WayForward games) will receive a free download code for Mighty Switch Force! 2 on Wii U!!!!

Exclamation point! Just email a pic of your costume (family friendly obviously, we may not be kids but we're kids at heart) and the name of the game that inspired it to contest@wayforward.com.

If you need a break from making your amazing gaming costume and are looking for something to do in Southern California this Saturday you should head on over to Club Microwave!

Our illustrious composer Jake"Virt" Kaufman will be in attendance making all your favorite noises alongside some other amazing chiptune artists.

This one's not to be missed!

Anyone here a fan of Regular Show? Do you happen to live in Southern California? And do you like videogames (I certainly hope so)? Then you should come to the Regular Show: Mordecai & Rigby in 8-bit Land Launch Party!

WayForward directors Jeff Luke and James Montagna will be in attendance who you have likely seen in some of our WayForwardTV live-streams and Jake "Virt" Kaufman will be playing music live! Again! He can't be stopped!

No seriously it's kind of a problem, he just keeps making music constantly.

Meanwhile, in the land of Kicks and Starts

We’ve been so overwhelmed by all of the amazing support we’ve received from the Kickstarter community that we felt it would be wrong not to spread the love around a bit. Therefore we’d like to share some of our favorite campaigns currently live on Kickstarter:

Boogerman is back! Boogerman Co-creator Michael Stragey is the man behind many of WayForward's most beloved sidescrollers of yesteryear, and now he needs your help!

Mike pioneered our Game Boy Advance technology and lead the charge on Sigma Star Saga, Shantae Advance, Godzilla Domination, Scorpion King: Sword of Osiris, and many more from that wondrous age of pixel gaming!

Now that he and Boogerman's other Co-Creator Chris Tremmel are heading back to Booger-ville, please consider helping them out!

Everyone should also check out You Are Not The Hero, one of our favorite new Kickstarter campaigns. This game looks super fun and is a neat twist on classic RPGs. They already blew past their funding goal but could totally use your help in hitting their Stretch Goals!

Screaming Internets, Streaming Demons, and Papered Desktops

Well howdy-doody backeroonies! Man this has been a busy week for us aboard Risky's Steam-Powered Tinkertub. Hope your week has been good ^_^

Empty Mailboxes :(

As many of you eagle-eyed backers may have noticed the emails confirming your pledge amounts and reward selections, as well as consolidating multiple pledges, have yet to arrive. Well we can assure you that the emails are all set to go and the only reason they haven't been sent yet is that apparently the Internet freaks out and runs away screaming into the night when you try to send 19,861 emails at the same time.

Artist's rendering of the Internet
The good news is that we now have a service that seems willing and able to send all of you a lovely email, but it looks like Monday is the earliest that will occur. The email is in their hands, they just need to approve our submission and make sure we aren't a foreign prince trying to send you an inheritance or sell you a timeshare or something. Which we totally are, but that's a later email ;)

Demon Streaming

Mark you're calendars and grab your holy water, WayForwardTV is back next Thursday, November 14th, for GameNatomy! Tune in from 6pm-8pm PST and join Jeff Luke, Adam Tierney, Tomm Hulett, James Montagna, and Chris Shanley as they dissect the Super Nintendo classic: Demon's Crest. This game has been mentioned countless times (we can only count to 3, it's more than that) in previous WayForwardTV streams as a major inspiration for several of our directors so come find out why we think it's so great.

One size fits all

There are a lot of cool gaming Kickstarters going on right now, but If you haven't already you should totally check out Scale! We've watched the trailer a few dozen times and each time our minds boggle at the possibilities. We're super excited to play it and the team is really close to meeting their funding goal! Also do yourself a favor and check out the videos in their updates ^.~

My Desktop is boring

And finally, Matt is of course super busy on Shantae and the Pirate's Curse but don't worry your pretty little ponytails, he has been working on the Desktop Wallpaper in his spare time. In fact, just today he completed his first pass at the art and layout and wanted to share it with everyone:

Not Final Art
I'm sure a few photoshop effects, maybe a couple lens flares, and it's all done. So expect it in the next few weeks! I don't know about you, but I'm making this my desktop background for now :P

In all seriousness we are coming up with a super awesome piece of original art, nothing that you've seen before, and will be delivering that to all of our $5 and above backers later this month d^_^b

So I recently finished Shantae: Risky's Revenge and I have to say it is 10x better than the Original Shantae, which I have yet to finish because of my lack of time and patience. It just played so much better than the Original, and this was on an iPod Touch which surprisingly worked very well. The thing I liked most about Risky's Revenge when compared to the Original was the fact that it was easier and less frustrating. Shantae's Hair Whip hitbox was farther, there were far more save points, and bottomless pits didn't instantly kill you. It made the game more bearable while staying challenging, and yes there is a difference between challenging and frustrating.

Risky's Revenge had everything that the Original lacked, and I'm sure the developers realize that as well. They probably looked at the Original and said, "Alright how can we improve on this, how can we make this better?" It only took me a few hours to beat but it was a few hours of pure fun. Money well spent in my opinion.

Also I maintain my claim that Risky's Revenge Shantae is the hottest Shantae. Actually the art style of the game makes every character look 10x more attractive.

The wallpaper is now out for any backers who donated $5 and above. Also the "not final" art that was posted is included.

does anybody know how long the paypal is gonna be open? I might need 2 more weeks til I get paid again.

does anybody know how long the paypal is gonna be open? I might need 2 more weeks til I get paid again.

Should be another couple of months from what I've heard.

Curses! Risky is in Control and she wants Steam-Powered Revenge

Greetings and Salutations to all of our Shantaerians and Tinkerbackers!

Wow this year feels like it has flown by. Now that winter is finally upon us we hope you're all staying warm, while visions of half-genies dance through your heads ;)

Shantae and the Pirate's Curse

Winter may have just begun, but Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is nearing the finish line! The team is working super crazy hard and the game just keeps getting more amazing with each passing day. By the time the last snowfall of Winter melts you should all be happily enjoying a brand new adventure in Sequin Land!

And here's a special treat! Click the image above to download it and take a look at this teaser Matt personally assembled for everyone. There are some familiar faces, lots of new ones, and even some hints at the story!

Shantae: Risky's Revenge (iOS)

If you haven't already heard, Shantae: Risky's Revenge on iOS now supports Game Controllers made for iPhone and iPod touch. Game Controller support requires iOS 7 or later and is compatible with iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, and iPod touch (5th generation).

It's one of only TWO games with official controller support in the iTunes App Store, so check it out!

Shantae: Risky's Revenge (Steam)

We are hard at work on the Steam release of Shantae: Risky's Revenge and it looks like it will be available Q2 of next year! We're tentatively calling this the "Director's Cut" because we are taking the best parts of the DSiWare original and all our favorite updates from the iOS release to make it the best version of Risky's Revenge yet!

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero

Hmmmm...is there a Shantae game we forgot to mention? What could we be forgetting? Oh yeah! As if we weren't busy enough, pre-production of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is moving along nicely and we look forward to sharing some new concepts and information in the coming weeks!
