So I just played through Squigly's story mode on Nightmare again because, and I realised something.

I think everybody knows what happens in Squigly's story, but let's get reminded on what happened on the last Skullgirls.
Dahlia crashes the party, Squigly gets headshotted, Selene turns into a Skullgirl. 14 years later, Squigly is brought back by Marie's power and starts kicking ass in all of her finery until she reaches the Skull Heart. After she turns Double and the Skull Heart to puree, she dies again.

Now that I've resumed Squigly's story mode, let's focus on a particular point. Squigly was brought back by Marie's power. Since all Skullgirls appear to have the power to raise the dead around them, that would mean, that 7 years after defeating Marie, Squigly might rise again. And 7 years after defeating Marie's successor, she'll rise again, and again every 7 years until someone perma-kills the Skull Heart or she decomposes completely (if she even can decompose, Leviathan might be halting/preventing decomposition alongside her embalming).

While it looks like a good thing, as it means New Meridian will always have a sealed girl in a coffin to kick Skullgirl pelvis, just think about what it implies.

Squigly will awaken every few years, climb out of her coffin, fight, and die. Over and over and over.
Maybe it's just me, but.. doesn't that sound horrifying to you? Poor Squigly will never find peace, even in death. She'll always have to come back and fight.

Could she go insane from this constant circle of rise>fight>destroy Skull Heart>die>rise again? If she did, what could it mean for her and New Meridian?
Would she be able to stay determined to seek and defeat the Skullgirl? Or maybe she would just get bored of this and instead look at how the city has changed during the 7 years?
Or just say "screw this, I'm staying in my coffin, I wanna sleep"?

Nah, she and Annie will meet up every 7 years, catch up, fight the skullgirl together, then make plans for next time. It'll be fun.

Don't forget, Big Band and Ileum will be there too. They teamed up with Squigly and maybe even Annie in previous Skullgirl beatdowns.

As for Squigly's resurrection routine... Seven years ago, when Queen Nancy Renoir went Skullgirl on the faraway battlefields of the Grand War, the Skull Heart's influence was too distant to revive Squigly. If Squigly wishes to retire from this resurrection cycle, she need only find some place far away to store her coffin.

Pretty sick to think the Medicis were storing the corpses of their enemies in chained coffins inside their skyscraper headquarters (where Squigly falls out of at the beginning of her story mode). From the brief glimpse of Selene and how Marie fights, it seems the Skullgirl requires only a skeleton to command their puppet minions. I wonder if the Skull Heart purposely strips away the tissue so the undead subject has no mechanical means of resistance. It could mean Squigly was partially victim to this "flesh deletion" (transported to the blood pools of Gehenna?) or her bony arm and other damage is probably just decay.

If it is slow decay, I don't think Squigly and Leviathan can keep leeching power and resisting. Eventually they'll decompose or weaken enough to submit to the Skull Heart's influence.

Yeah, Squigly will probably get support from Big Band/Illeum/Annie/whoever gets to be the newest creation of the ASG or self-proclaimed Skullgirl hunter no matter what happens.

But, if she wants some actual rest, moving to another place is not foolproof. Who says Double won't follow her, either on purpose or unknowingly? Plus, there would be the whole problem of getting away. Who could she rely on to buy another coffin, find a place in a graveyard in another country, and making sure the Medici won't try and get her back just to "remember" (and by that I mean "keep mocking") the Contiello? (althrough, with almost everyone in the cast having a bone to pick with them, I'm pretty sure they have something better to do)

As for the flesh removal... I guess Leviathan somehow blocked that effect, too. That would explain why Squigly is still mainly fleshy despite everyone at Selene's party rapidly decomposing, ending up with her surrounded by a lot of skulls. Why the Skull Heart appears to remove flesh off its minion is another matter, tho... maybe it has nothing to do with its powers and it's Double using that flesh to shapeshift? It would explain Gehenna. But that's another subject entierly.

Still, even with people supporting you, resurrecting every so often to fight must get tiring.

The Skullheart removes flesh because Fleshheart just doesn't sound as cool.

I don't think it was necessarily the Medici's who chained up the coffins I think it was stated in the lore thread that the people of the kingdom chain up coffins so their love ones don't escape when the Skullgirl ressurects (so their loves ones don't fight or they need to track down the bodies when the Skullgirl dies). I assume the coffins are from the cathedral located in the city. Although it's gruesome and not out of character for the Mafia to chain up coffins and give them a "water grave" or something.

I think Squigly's coffin was flying around just because Marie was bringing up every corpse in the city to attack the Skyscraper.

IF Squigly's coffin was flying around because of Marie controlling corpses, would it mean Marie had at least some power over Squigly's corpse? As she has Leviathan to protect her from the Skullgirl's power, it wouldn't make sense for Marie to control her.

Unless, Marie was controlling Squigly before she awakened due to the power of the Skullgirl/heart.

I'd also say something about the fate of Squigly, but I want to play through (or watch) her story mode again at the end, to see what she says to Leviathan. I think it's something along the lines of, "Will you be here when I wake up yadayadayada?"
I'm not sure.

You're right. It's important to remember Leviathan isn't as closely bound to this resurrection cycle as Squigly.

BEGINNING
Leviathan: Thank goodness... you have awoken.
Squigly: Le...viathan...? You really did stay with me.
Leviathan: Naturally.

END
Squigly: What will you do this time, Leviathan?
Leviathan: It would appear we've become quite inseparable.
Leviathan: I will remain by your side until you next awaken.
Squigly: Thank you...

YOU have awoken. Until YOU next awaken. Lev don't sleep!

True! Marie may have made a pit stop at the graveyard to gather some ghoulies, but I think Squigly was in Medici tower because they paid for and ran her mock funeral. After Squigly and the Anti-Skullgirl Labs took down Skullgirl Selene, Squigly fell into a "sleep" that would last 14 years. The Medicis dressed her in that skull-themed costume and sewed her lips shut. Some kind of bizarre mafia message to close the chapter on the Contiellos.

It's unclear if the Medicis knew Squigly was undead and could "wake up" or were just treating her like the local superstition of any dead body: put it in a coffin and then wrap it in chains.
Still, even with people supporting you, resurrecting every so often to fight must get tiring.
I can see how miserable it would be to only wake up for about a week every seven years, and when you do, there is guaranteed to be a super-powered monster going on a nearby rampage. But if you had such a short life of only 14 years, perhaps you would treasure any chance to live again. Perhaps Squigly would dislike missing a cycle and want to be revived.

The only way out of this symbiosis is an option I can never see Squigly taking: making a wish on the the Skull Heart.

Otherwise there's a scene in the distant future in which Leviathan can no longer shield Squigly from the Skull Heart's influence and he'll be forced to destroy his host to save her from becoming a minion. He might die in the process or become dormant like some parasites can sometimes manage to do in between hosts.

I think Lev slowly growing unable to block the Skullheart's influence from Squigly would likely start to happen. But it all might just depend on how strong the Skullgirl is. Marie was never a good Skullgirl, so perhaps her influence was weaker on Squigly.

If something like this does happen, I feel as though Squigly would request Lev to prevent her from becoming a minion. As in, kill her (again?). Poor Levianthan :c and Squigly :c
