Toonami Thread

or you know
a meaningful reference to the fans that had been with them since childhood and had since moved on to more mature programming
like the reference that TOM, that Steve Blum, made

but you know
something spiteful and petty works too

I actually also hated the design. floating head with the weird double neck, swerving hips that made him walk (it worked for Tom 1 cuz he was stumpy), and HE HAD A FACE, which was the same face everyone else had! I also hated the 2 new guys and would have rather had the SARA with the cool body and hair that stood next to Tom, the programming during that block's time wasn't great especially when they went through ALL THE FILLERS of Naruto, and it didn't have that space exploration vibe that I was so accustomed by from Toonami, because it was clearly in my face "this is a programming block". and I get that Toonami is a programming block, but at least keep the spacey feel to it!

also, it takes more than references to win me over. :P

I didn't like that either. At that point, to me, Toonami was dead.

I'm glad it's come back in such an awesome way.
agreed. Toonami has been on a roll and I hope it continues to see success in that regard.

just never do Tom 4 stuff again.... please God no.

Plus, the extra animations for the face would have been costly, right?

Well since we are on the topic of talking about the history of Tom, for those that don't know, here is a video of the Endgame comic which explains how Tom 2 evolved into Tom 3.

It was a good read, but shame it was never animated.

Space☆Dandy was so good tonight...

I thought this was the worst episode of Space Dandy yet. It felt like one huge excuse to stick awesome space-surfing at the end of an episode.

as usual the first half isn't as good as the second half, but at least they had a rather entertaining parody of the classic sci-fi storyline of an alien planet divided in a war but no one remembers why it started. original star trek did that stuff all the time.

second half was very funny. then it was eureka seven.

Guys, something is wrong with Toonami. There's subs again ._.

Honestly, this episode of space dandy wasn't bad...but it wasn't good either. The ending though, was awesome. Totally redeemed this episode.

I'm starting to see why people don't like SAO's second half
This is...
really, really, really, really, really, really fucked up.

It feels like the scripts got mixed up with a murderporn hentai
and people STILL defend this show...

and people STILL defend this show...
To put this in perspective, I'm jaded as fuck and torture stuff usually doesn't faze me
And I was still creeped out and just. The whole part was very unpleasant.
Though, the bit after that was extremely cathartic.
Almost made up for the whole thing.

I heard all parts of SAO After ALFheim are much much better. I mean after that, it's not like it can possibly get worse, right?

Is it worse than episode 26(?) with the Asuna thing? This week's episode hasn't aired for me yet

In all honesty on Space Dandy, I did want the aliens to make peace (although wearing exchanging the clothes was rather strange), but then again, some things end like they did.

As for SAO, I was glad when the hero killed the villain.

Hah Space Dandy has the term "shoobie" present. Have not heard that in years.

Yeah..."peace conference" won't get messed up at all..

Not the worst episode, but not the best. Still decent enough, you can see subtle references everywhere. Next episode is looking potentially promising with the whole "space race" theme.

I just realized the (former) Big Three air right after Space Dandy o.o

Wow. It was like I was watching NTR
Jolyne is still the best heroine I've ever seen

I'm gonna say what I said on Twitter. The haters are overreacting to this.
Really? That was the big molestation part that everyone told me was so bad? As someone who's seen the rape scene in Blood+ back in '08, I can say this was nothing more than a bunch of bad touch moments.
I'm not trying to defend SAO to the point of saying "OMG! This is the greatest show I've ever seen my life!" but I was promised something insepid and all I've gotten out of this series is a cliff notes mixed with some dumb stuff that's blown out of proportion by it's critics.

Sorry but that's just how I feel. The show isn't this trainwreck I was lead to believe it was, it just has a few problems that could easily be fixed in the hands of a better company.

and people STILL defend this show...

Hey I have my reasons.

Dragon riding Cristina Vee catgirl being the biggest one.

Hey can we not have this discussion? Pretty soon people are going to start bringing up Berserk and this page will devolve into an argument over what's the most fucked up anime. If you want to have that talk then take it to the Anime/Manga General Discussion. Maybe I'm being too pushy but I just want to keep this thread out of that realm.

I would much rather talk about that amazing space surfing scene.

tbh Zen I really doubt it will come to that. Like, for one berserk handles that subject really well, and it should be said that what people made a huge stink about in SAO is nothing compared to what a lot of different series have had.

but yeah, I don't see anything wrong with changing subjects

I'll just say this: you'd never expect SAO to have these kinds of scenes as you would in Berserk. SAO is a very shonen anime like Naruto is, where as Berserk is seinen. You wouldn't expect the main heroine, like Sakura, to be molested and almost raped would you? I can't take a show seriously if it's going to treat its most important characters like that
I haven't seen Blood+ so I don't know what the setting is.

heres what happened in blood+

spoiling it because I know some people on this thread don't want to talk about it.

one of the main characters is raped by title character's sister, then has him killed, and the rest of the series constantly hangs the rape over everyone's heads especially considering the fact that the main villain is now pregnant with twins of the boy she raped.

albeit the rape isn't shown but its clearly obvious what will and has happened in that scene as it plays out.

and with the whole "you die in the game you die in real life" aspect, I can't really consider it that shounen. like, SAO is literally more akin to .hack from what I've seen.

That's....very messed up ._. and way past Shonen
I think another reason why I give SAO so much flak is the overwhelming fan base. It's quite unbearable.
Let's get back on topic.
Creepy SAO stuff aside.
Next week is the last episode of it.
It'll be gone from Toonami until presumably SAO 2 gets translated.
I thought this was the last episode?

I don't really count the shounen demographic as a shounen series. blood also doesnt really fit a lot of the shounen principles too.

Yeah Blood+ is technically horror genre which, from what I can tell, isn't always akin to Shounen anime.

I only brought that scene up because it's the first thing I think of when people talk about these types of scenarios and it's usually the worst one I've seen. (I've never watched Berserk nor particularly care to or anything in that level of intensity)

The point I was trying to make was: I was expecting something more offensive due to how all of the haters played it out as this awful thing and I didn't get that. I felt more uncomfortable than offended.

Back on topic: Are there any plans for Space Dandy to appear on DVD or get a soundtrack release? Because I will gladly buy that stuff. And I don't say that often w/ anime.

I recommend at least watching the final episodes of berserk just to get a feel of it. I honestly feel that final scene at the end is so well handled, yet I can't really explain why I think that.

its pretty obvious space dandy will be on most media players and devices in various formats. it's from the same mind that brought you samurai champloo and cowboy bebop. of course it would be a bestseller.

It seems that everyone proceeded to completely ignore me and continue talking about this crap. Does a rule actually need to be instated to restrict all discussion to the shows on Toonami only, just so we can avoid topics like this?

Do me a favor and please keep this kind of talk out of this thread.

"Yeah let's not rewatch Blood + "
I recall when that aired on adult swim

Crazy reactions online were pretty much like this now.

in our defense though Zen, Blood+ was in the same block that Toonami is on now, but I do agree that we should have changed the subject a while back.

so lets do that.

black lagoon can get fuckin' nuts somtimes. Revi both scares and arouses me...

So no one's going to talk about the Space Dandy BD/DVDs? ._.

They actually put that on TV? Christ...

I haven't watched much of Black Lagoon, mainly because I dislike the characters, I'll try it again when it's on TV.
