Beowulf SPOILERS - Beowulf Story Mode and Other Lore

What is everyone going on about, killed by a dragon? I know that's how the hero Beowulf goes down, but the comparisons between the two are fairly rough, so him becoming king and then getting wounded or having his spirit crushed or something more metaphorical would be better for that in my opinion. Hell, killing Grendel's mom and having to live with that could have been 'his death' as a wrestler.

North you gotta remember that you don't know anything about how Beowulf's story will turn out, don't be so damn quick to shut down everyone's theories, especially when they have valid points. There is a very real possibility that Beowulf could die and we have to consider that.

It's called an assumption for a reason. Though we will soon see how different the story would've been if these theories aren't going to be real. His wrestling carreer had to put on to a stop, or in other words, died, due to the fact that ripping someone's arm and killing said person's mother is not a little problem. Heck, Grendel's probably gon' be pissed when he met Beowulf again.

I support the idea of Beowulf making out with Parasoul, though I'd rather question you guys if it would add up a bunch more of the storyline, like "Beowulf became the king of Canopy Kingdom and ruled New Meridian with Parasoul, but is killed by the dragon silently" type of thing.

Interesting, but it might upset a bunch of Adam x Parasoul fans. Beo is already king of the ring, I don't know how he will handle a whole kingdom. Give him a living weapon umbrella and see if he can use it...

Speaking of Marie and Grendel as a boss, it reminds me of the twitch chat with Personasama on his art stream before Salty! last Friday.

Apparently Marie as a boss was a last-minute heroic effort in crunch time. Late nights, overtime, and sleepless extra programming to get her functional. At 02:04:25 in this past broadcast, Personasama explains:

Persona: Did you know originally Marie wasn't even budgeted/planned to be in the game
Persona: we literally had no money or time to make her
Persona: but one of our programmers spent lonely nights by himself doing the scripting by himself for her
Persona: and we crunched the last few weeks to do her
Persona: so her moveset/movement is kinda janky because mike never even touched her
Persona: doing it all for the players

So a Grendel boss is not impossible, but to me it is highly unlikely. Getting a reason for Beowulf to fight Marie is an interesting problem. Perhaps his TV special Andy was so hyped for is interrupted by a Skullgirl rampage (tearing Medici tower in half causes debris to fall on the stadium). He sees his fans in danger, catches a portion of the roof about to collapse on the crowd, and then goes after Marie.

Let's put Beowulf and Parasoul together
Do you want a ship war? Because that's how you get a ship war.

Of all theories, honestly giving Beowulf any sort of noble title is my least favourite. It doesn't fit him at all.
Like I know the Beowulf poem and everything, epic happenings and shit, but I'm of the idea they'll go for a more superhero story. He finds about the Skullheart, will fight against it to test himself, win, and get back from retirement because killing the Skullgirl will make him feel like a hero again. They'll throw some Lore infos here and there to make us happy and that's it! Robofortune here we wait!

That's pretty much my theory too; Beowulf hunts Marie just for the glory.

Well Beowulf WAS king of the ring. If we're looking for symbolism, we're gonna have to dig deeper than just the obvious speculations.

no lie that kinda sounds like a boring story

Well that's just you opinion, what would be your idea of a good story?

I would give beowulf a soul searching story. like, what if he acually feels bad for killing grendels mother.

wow and the parasoul shipping thing is crazy. we already got parasou lx adam and parasoul x valentine (in fact we even have parasoul x umbrella...i'm not shitting you) and now we got parasoul x beowulf. That girl is just a magnet for attraction

That's like, already a given. Alex Ahad's quote suggests that.

if you retire from retirement, wouldn't you be in retirement still?

C'mon guys, stay on topic.

Anyway, on a secondary note, something inside me says Beowulf may not actually fight Marie, and I also get the feeling that his final fight in his story mode won't actually be in the cathedral or related area. Kind of a gut feeling, I guess.

Based on Double saying that he'll regret challenging the Skullgirl, I think he will fight against Marie, just possibly not his final fight. Besides, it would be weird if he's the only character not to fight against Marie.

I also like the idea of Beowulf being King of the Ring. His throne on one of his concept art really looks like a wolf-themed King of the Ring throne. If he's an ex-prince, so to speak, he'd be all "I prefer ruling the ring over the kingdom".

All this shipping talk and no one is thinking of The Hurting, poor thing...Girl's got feelings y'know!

As for the Marie question, I think it would be interesting if he fought her early and then we find out more about his past with the Egrets etc, but he grows in pride, excitement and heroism due to saving everyone from the Skullgirl and eventually fights against Eliza.

I totally think Beowulf should save the Canopy Kingdom from that terrible Eliza! That would be rad.

Great theory, Shock, as always. But I have a question directed to Beowulf/Eliza's story mode. If Your suggestion occurs, what exactly will happen to Beowulf/Eliza's story continuation if Skullgirls 2 will ever be a thing?

I want Beowulf's intro to be him in the empty arena caressing the ropes, sighing as he gets up on the ring. Then, he hears voices, he sees a dark figure approaching; it's Grendel. Grendel tries to guilt-trip him but Beowulf tries to rationalize it, "I did it to save the audience...!" Grendel taunts him and Beowulf, not wanting to hear of what he's done, strikes him with the Hurting. It's double and now she takes his form, a taunting retelling of that final match. Beowulf tightens his grip on the Hurting, he feels the rush and excitement of fighting again; that feeling that made him want to retire from retirement. Is it an obsession? Wanting to feel the rush and excitement, the cheers and the adrenaline? He beats double and sees the commotion outside, he thinks. Maybe if he takes out the skullgirl he can redeem himself of what he has done.
Or he really just wants to see how strong he is; how should I know~~

This.
This is the most adequate opening to Beowulf that I have ever seen in this thread.
Let's just hope that Mike planned Beowulf to open like this too.

Awesome intro description

I really like your idea that Grendel taunts Beowulf in the beginning of his game but I have no idea how we are going to fit this speculation to Double's "You will regret challenging the Skullgirl."

Just an idea, his coming out of retirement and Marie doing the whole skullgirls thing overlap and he decides to fight her both to test his strength and as a sort of publicity stunt. "Beowulf, Retiring From Retirement, Challenges Current Skullgirl" It would work wouldn't it? So, before going to fight Marie, he visits the empty arena as a sort of "goodluck charm". There he is taunted by double, who sees him as a threat, with that final match that he just can't forget. He looks out and he isn't going out there to test his strength or as a publicity stunt. He's going out there to save people and to try to redeem himself, to try and forget.

What possible reason would Double have to go to an empty wrestling ring to bother a washed up old fighter? I'm pretty sure that it has far more important things to do.

The second poooost~

Cause it sees him as a threat? There are a dozen other threats out there that Double would show more priority in addressing, and it has to tend to Marie's commands as well. Double is still just one monster, it wouldn't have time address a fighter that shows no sign of activity. I don't think Beowulf would fight Double until much later in the story.

I give up.
All I really want is for double to torment the poor fella using guilt or sumthin'

He's probably already tormenting himself.

A bit more suffering doesn't hurt.
The fact that this comes from a Peacock-Bigband (H-Knuckles) user is in no way relevant.

E:
I mean, come on, the guy has a distinguished track-record in combat and can even beat a gigan with nothing but a chair. Tell me Beowulf wouldn't be enough of a threat to dispose of (After Lab 8?) once he announces his desire to go after the skullgirl.

Man I am surprised there isn't a thread for that... yet.
Although I doubt it fits into the 'non-opinionated thread rule.' I mean that's a thread that just asks for trouble...

E:
I just don't see it happening, I would bet a lot of money that Double isn't going to be involved early on in his story.

Maybe halfway in his story he takes a break from hunting the SH and does some soul searching, goes to the ring in the middle of the night to reflect. Double, seeing the progress that he has made, seeks him out. I'd also like to imagine that Beowulf isn't a suitable host for the SH, Double would be extra vicious in her attack.

Well i did make a valentine/ beowulf pairing thread a while ago. If you wanna talk about pairings i guess you can go there.

I DO agree that Double probably won't be involved early in his story.

Yes.

Also, D'you think he could know Band from the war days?

About Beo's compatibility with the Skull Heart, I had a thought that Beowulf would attempt to wish on it but ends up getting killed.
