Report Holiday Update: PS4/Vita and Robo-Fortune News!

Could anyone please clarify this part for me, I don't get it? What does "assets likely won't be upscaled" mean, since they have original assets with bigger size why would they upscale current ones, and how could they get "native 1080p" with current assets?
Char sprites, UI... that kinda stuff. Think of the "Upgrade" MvC2 got when it was ported to Xblox360/Ps3 where the sprites didn't get any love.

Woo necrobump

The game will run at 1080p, instead of at 720p upscaled as it is on PS3. Assets will likely not be stored at a higher res than on PS3 though because of rendering cost.

Hello. Sorry for asking again, but be it my English or my understanding of the way your game draws the output, I still lack something to completely understand the situation.
I get what benefit could a game like Skyrim(a random example) get from an increased resolution, for the textures would be higher res on the picture when viewed from the same game distance, and even if you are looking at an object from a point where one would already be native res at lower resolution, the lines of an object itself are smoother and a properly scaled UI unlocks a fuller picture.
Skullgirls, on the other hand, consists of objects whose borders are defined by sprites themselves, so the only thing benefitting from a higher resolution with the same assets would be shadows. So I am questioning is my understanding of matter correct. For if it is, I do not get this bit:
Will the PS4 version be at a higher resolution than the PS3 version? It'll be native 1080p, but the assets likely won't be upscaled - too much increase in file size / loading times for no noticeable benefit.
, for what would be the benefit of running higher resolution with the current sprites, and how would it be noticeable at all?

In addition to that, my conviction on the matter is futhermore diminished by mentions of a "Hi-res Sprite Pack", for if it
will be releasing with or after Robo-Fortune, once Lab Zero will no longer have to worry the PC version branching too far away from the console versions.
I got the notion that it would be released because PC version would be compatible with consoles even with the pack after aforementioned release, e.g. current gen console release would include higher-res textures that last gen's one.

I am sorry in advance if my question is hard to understand. I get that the blanks in my knowledge of how to speak proper English joined by my habit of using some constructions that are not widely spread in online messaging can lead to something hardly comprehensive, and while I get the irony of not understanding what do I want clarified, I certainly do not get any joy from the possibility.

Edit: little rephrasing of the afterword.
