For what it's worth, there are plenty of people who still like buying shiny new sticks regardless of backwards compatibility.
Its also for lighting Peacock's cigars.
That's entirely up to MKX/NRS, it has nothing to do with devkit vs retail. A profile is not required for the driver, it is required by the GAME for savedata and trophies and things. The PS3 driver itself doesn't care about any profiles or anything at all besides which sticks are plugged in. (Though I would assume you don't need to keep the controller actually physically plugged in, just not dead, so the 2 USB ports isn't really an issue unless you're at low battery, and you can probably plug the DS4 into another USB port like your phone charger, for power. That's some sideways spin there, heh.)
SG does NOT work that way, as already shown on repeated Salty streams. SG keeps the profile that started the game always logged in, and that's the only profile it uses no matter which controllers you add or remove. You need a single DS4 to press one button and dismiss the "You plugged in a legacy controller, the Home button won't work" message that you get when plugging in a PS3 stick the first time - and we're trying to fix that, too! - but after that point you can disconnect the DS4 and play the game entirely with PS3 sticks until you turn it off. I even wrote special code where if the DS4 was in charge of the menus, when you unplug it the game finds the first PS3 stick and puts that one in charge, which is not how other console versions work.
[edit] Just checked with my phone charger, you can leave a DS4 connected to your PS4 and charge it that way. If you connect it to something else that recognizes it as a controller (like your PC, with DS4 drivers) then it will disconnect from the PS4.
I don't have a GAF account, but there ya go.
What I LOVE about this is the amount of crap I have ALREADY GOTTEN from people (not you) because of something NRS decided to do. I swear, trying to do anything to advance the standards of usability in fighting games is like pulling teeth.@Mike_Z So MKX is starting to appear in the wild now and I've been seeing reactions to the PS3 stick compatibility pop up.
I guess on one hand it's understandable why they did it this way. MKX has a ton of unlockables, so if you're playing against your friend/sibling local it's cool for both of you to be able to unlock stuff at the same time, instead of getting a bunch of stuff on one account then having to go home and unlock it again on your own profile. (I'm assuming that's the logic behind this anyway)
Well, the article mention the fact that it's probably Netherealm choice. And when you look at the comments, they pretty much all go toward blaming Netherrealm(or simply appreciate being able to use the stick even if it's in a convoluted way) and not Lab Zero. Count taken that on that same site haters are quick to criticize skullgirls, i think it's safe to see that Lab Zero dodged the bullet!
I figured as much, I imagine it'd be extra work for you guys to appease a very small minority of people. For the record though, having played it a lot more I like it better then I did originally when the change was first made, though I still prefer the original.
My intent wasn't to complain, it was merely to give my opinion. I think there's an important distinction between the two. If it came off as whiny then I apologize for that, I did not intend to complain or whine and certainly not to insult anybody at Lab Zero or other consulting artists. I have aspergers so occasionally when I say or word things they end up having a connotation that I didn't intend.
I think this post worded it better then mine did.I personally prefer the old color scheme. It may be due to me being partially color blind, but the colors work for me. Still, I completely understand the change. However, I will say that now the colors look muted and boring to me. The blue hue just kinda washes over everything and gives it a cold feeling, like stone. I think the old colors made the foreground of the scenery pop and stick out more and the details in the background contrast more in a nice way. Now, it all just flows togethor and doesn't quite stand out as much.
Again, I completely understand why it was done, I just wish the palette tey'd replaced it with didn't look quite so dull to me.
