I get a lot of the basic stuff like LP/MP/HP, j.LK, etc but when I see something like Valentine’s “214K and 236K” i’m a little lost. I’ve been doing some research and i’ve learned a few more abbreviations but sometimes i’m just confused.

In case you haven't found it already, the Fighting Game Glossary is a very useful resource for abbreviations and just fighting game terms in general.

However, the things you mentioned like 214 and 236 aren't really abbreviations; they are notations. In this case they are called numpad notations.

There are several ways directional buttons can be notated and numpad notation is one of the more popular ones. It's very frequently used in the SG community so best to learn and get familiar with it.

That makes MUCH more sense, thank you. I’m used to hearing QCF for quarter circle punch and stuff. I’ll take another look at the glossary for anything I missed.
