Beatrix seems to stand out the most on the list because Aeon and Venus are important to the setting (though from what I remember they don't have much presence in the mobile game) and the other four are all pretty popular characters/choices for DLC. Beatrix I've seen people who like her but she doesn't seem to be as talked about as the others, and she's not very prominent in the mobile game compared to some other NPCs who aren't on the poll.

Beatrix was quite prominent in Bella's Origin Story so I don't think she's completely out of the left field, but definitely doesn't seem like she's sitting among the top picks like the other choices.

Aeon is also relatively popular, but I feel like her gameplay proposal is way too ambitious and I still don't see how they can make her play well while also staying true to her concept, but maybe that's just my personal bias. If we are gonna get a time manipulation character I feel like Isaac is the better pick.

On the other hand, Feng, Panzer, Venus and Brain Drain are very popular and if I have to bet on 4 characters for the next season, those would be my choices.

Edit: Oh and also Minette. I think it's a toss up between her and Brain Drain.

Beatrix and Aeon feel a bit like red herrings though lol.
Yeah, Beatrix doesn't seem to be that much popular. Feng has way more fans, for example.

I assume that's what the "Other:" is for lol. Write in your favourite!
Hey, I never said I didn't! :PUN:

As mentioned earlier, it was revealed that Black Dahlia would be getting a Voice Pack.
Today, that Voice Pack has been shown in action!

A bit difficult to hear her lines throughout the trailer, but this looks like a fun one!

...As for the obligatory over-analysis:
I believe this to be Black Dahlia had she never defected from the Anti-Skullgirl Labs. :P

I hope granny Dahlia says "I've fallen and I can't get up".

As for the Sgm poll, the intent feels rather unsubtle to me. I think the results may look something like this:
Panzerfaust
Minette
Feng
Brain Drain
Venus
Beatrix
Aeon

Panzerfaust got a lot of recent exposure in the webtoon on top of generally being prominent in the sgm stories. Plus his design is pretty standout among the cast.
Minette for obvious reasons. She's always been popular and prominent due to being attached to Ms. Fortune.
Feng for similar reasons as Minette. She's a cutie pie.
Brain Drain, a great villain. He shows up a lot. I personally think he would make for a great playable character. Skullgirls is lacking playable male villains and I don't see Vitale or Lorenzo becoming playable any time soon instead of him.
I feel like both Aeon's and Venus's popularity has really waned since the waifuwars era of Skullgirls and a lot of the old guard have not stuck around over the years. I don't believe the goddess sisters have showed up recently, either, with their last real world chronological appearance (Iirc) being Robo-Fortune's storymode. Still, Venus has a fun and sexy design that would lend well to gameplay that is par for course with the quality Skullgirl's existing cast.
Beatrix was very fortunate to be prominent in Cerebella's sgm story, which I think has likely helped her popularity. That said, I still do not see her in fanart very often. Maybe she'll be a sleeper pick?
I believe Aeon would be last nowadays both due to her seemingly waned popularity compared to the waifuwars and her proposed gameplay (probably) being a mess to implement and balance. I definitely agree with Chrono_Tata that Isaac would be able to do the time gimmick in a far more digestible way, as well as probably being better to come first from a narrative perspective. However, I personally would like to see Aeon because she's very cute and I love the Trinity characters in general.
The top Other pick will likely be Stanley or Mrs. Victoria, either of which would be nice.

I want a "Call an ambulance... but not for me!" reference. Might not fit with the Good Granny theme though lol.

I really would love to see how popular Minette is these days, because she's really not as prominent as the other characters in SGM and I don't hear about her as much. Too bad I doubt they will share the result of the poll publicly though.

I just thought this was an interesting question in the poll, particularly the choices it offers.

Before y'all go too crazy over this SGM survey, this list is not indicative of top choices for a future Season 2 Pass or DLC or whatever.

- We wanted to include a 'who's your favorite character' question, but just leaving it completely open ended causes a bunch of problems, like many players not knowing the names of their favorites, entries being rife with spelling mistakes, etc.

- We considered putting the entire roster of DLC potentials from the IndieGoGo from several years ago on the questions, but it made it waaaaay too big to actually fit in the survey.

- I personally trimmed that list down to those few names because they are far and away the most popular characters I see mentioned again and again on forums, socials, discord, etc. There's a good chance my personal bias towards particular characters also affected the list.

- Isaac, Stanley, Molly, Roxie and friends were just below the cutoff

tl;dr: The question is completely innocent and not attached to any future DLC plans.

IF we do any future DLC, there's no guarantees any of those characters (or any character on the VERY OLD potential list) might be chosen.

--------------------------------

Also I would like to reaffirm that the potential DLC cast listed in the Indieigogo is almost TEN YEARS OLD. The descriptions of characters, their play styles, their chances of being playable, etc, ALL of it is VERY VERY out of date. Don't be so attached to it as there's a good chance all of it could be completely changed at any time.

If the poll results won't dictate anything related to DLC, does that mean you guys will share the results?

It's the social media over-analysis thread; you know the game :^)

But yeah just for the record it's worth for myself to repeat to the general public that things on this thread are just speculations and supposed to be for fun. Don't take what we say here too seriously because none of us (well, except the devs) know anything more than anyone else.

As much as I would love to see an updated poll result for potential character popularity, I also feel like it is probably not a good idea. Cellsai can shout it from the rooftops but people will still take any official polls as some sort of indicator of future contents. And when people do, there are going be people who try to influence or manipulate people to get the results they want.

It can get pretty toxic, as people who have lived through the original Waifu Wars would tell you. So not sure if devs would want that kind of headache on their hands. Or maybe I'm just too worried and people are a lot more chilled out these days. I guess we won't know till they release the results and see what happens. :P

I'm still bitter it's not a Stereotypical Post-Soviet Old Lady voice pack :PUN:
I just can't stop imagining Dahlia's lines towards Valentine.

I feel like both Aeon's and Venus's popularity has really waned since the waifuwars era of Skullgirls and a lot of the old guard have not stuck around over the years.
Anyway, they are still supposed to be major antagonists. It's quite a reason for some people to vote for them.

I definitely agree with Chrono_Tata that Isaac would be able to do the time gimmick in a far more digestible way, as well as probably being better to come first from a narrative perspective.
It says a lot that he has a video of his proposed playstyle, and Aeon doesn't.

Here goes my hope to get playable Adam.

I really would love to see how popular Minette is these days, because she's really not as prominent as the other characters in SGM and I don't hear about her as much.
She still gets quite a lot of fanart. I guess, it's quite an indication.

As Chrono said, basically anything to do with announcing results of popularity votes that could be construed as evidence for specific characters being made playable is something I would loooooove to avoid.

That I had to weigh in here to explain the thoughts behind the poll at all shows how folks will latch onto even the question, let alone the answer when it comes to character popularity proving that X character will be made playable.

I definitely agree with Chrono_Tata that Isaac would be able to do the time gimmick in a far more digestible way, as well as probably being better to come first from a narrative perspective.

Personally I think the old time travel mechanics demoed for Isaac are an absolute nightmare of complexity.
90% of players get confused by Umbrella's fairly basic hunger mechanics. That number would jump to 99% if you involve the player needing to understand temporal causality paradoxes.
Aeon's old gameplay concept by comparison is pretty simple. Go back a few seconds to where the match was. Seems far more digestible to me!

As for Isaac needing to come first from a narrative perspective... having a time godess show up before she's supposed to seems pretty narratively cohesive to me!

If anything, if she ever becomes playable, for Aeon's launch we should rerelease the original build of Skullgirls with no DLC characters and add Aeon into that first.

I sorta agree that Isaac's old prototype was way too complicated than it had to be. Pretty sure only one person understood how the heck the concept worked fully and that person doesn't work on the game anymore.

However, I think the whole complexity arose from the idea that he needs to travel backward in time to do a move in the past. It would be so much simpler if he travels forward in time instead to do a move in the future. For example, he "warps" into the future which charges a future assist move, then as long as you have warp charges available you could call in a self-assist later. Practically the same concept and utility but without having to worry about time paradox shenanigans.

On the other hand, yeah, Aeon could have relatively straightforward time stuff like rewinding time or slowing it down, but her original concept also contained:

She may be able to capture moments on the battlefield to unleash later, like a bubble in time containing all attacks executed within its bounds.

I can't even imagine how that's gonna work.

My point is, both Isaac and Aeon could be as simple or as complicated as designers want them to be (just look at what happened to Eliza), but I feel like for the time goddess to really live up to her name, I'd expect her to have some really cool and innovative (which could translate to more complicated) time mechanics, while Isaac could get away with relatively simpler ones, conceptually and mechanically. It's not even that I don't want to see Aeon be playable at some point, but I just hope that when she does she would absolutely blow my mind.

If anything, if she ever becomes playable, for Aeon's launch we should rerelease the original build of Skullgirls with no DLC characters and add Aeon into that first.
Yes, please re-release vanilla SG as a separate build called Aeon Edition. The real time manipulation is Undizzy-less faux-infinite combos.

I feel as if there is not really any other way you could expect players to read such a poll if you're asking them for their favorite non-playable characters without explicitly saying beforehand that it won't be indicative of anything and is a totally innocent question. Unless, I suppose, we're expecting a wave a merchandise some time in the future.

I just think it's fun to speculate on these sorts of things.

Yeah, I feel like we're just semi-joking around with the fan speculations and I don't expect them to be taken too seriously, but it might not be obvious to everyone. I can understand if the devs want to nip the rumours in the bud.

But fear not, we can draw up rumors from a dry stone of need be.

I'm still hoping for a left-field curveball pick that was never on the original IndieGoGo list. Surprise me with someone no one saw coming.

Franz probably, but then if I see him coming now is it still a curveball?

Ferdinand gives me huge relius clover vibes. Would enjoy seeing those capes in the game.

Then, I'm rooting for Zane. The real Zane. If he actually exists, of course.

Let's be clear, no-one expects Zane to be real.

According to the devs, some characters from the comic made their way into the game somehow. Maybe, Ferdinand was smart enough to do just that.

Franz for sure feels like a playable character candidate. Ferdinand not so much. Definitely NPC energy, at least from what we have seen so far.

The other clear playable candidate is Irvin. Like Franz, there is most likely some sort of story spoiler reason he wasn't included in the vote.

I would like to see Irvin playable.

Never looked at his status from that point of view. For now, he looks like a pretty normal guy in the cast of... well, "Skullgirls" (and Adam already has a similar position). Don't tell me he was Double all along.

But, really, are there chances that somebody not from the proposed character list will make it into the game proper? I would like to know the answer before the second coming of "waifu wars" :PUN:

I think he probably has some sort of Hazama/Terumi from Blazblue thing going on. If he will look exactly like he does in the story, I don't think there would have been any reason to withhold him, but if he has an appearance and/or personality change due to a story reason, it would definitely explain why.

I feel like a part of his may be due to his weapons. He has 2 pistol holsters but the things sticking out of them don't look like guns at all. You can see that other character with guns like the police officers have the butts of their pistol drawn properly when holstered, but Irvin's weapons are just featureless black handles. Maybe it's some sort of secret weapons that they want to introduce properly in the future.

But, really, are there chances that somebody not from the proposed character list will make it into the game proper? I would like to know the answer before the second coming of "waifu wars" :PUN:
I don't see why not, especially if there is a good story reason for it and/or they are very popular. I think Franz is a pretty good candidate to get in before some of the voteable characters.

All this assuming we keep getting more SG contents of course lol.

The same link to Big Band playing "Never Gonna Give You Up" was also sent to Skullgirls Mobile players' in-game mailboxes.

SPECIAL APRIL SURPRISE!
Click below to get a sneak peek at our next upcoming character - the one and only Skullgirl herself... MARIE!

Funny, but they can never top the greatest April Fools joke of 2014:

Well, making her canon was close enough...

I am not sure what to think about people asking if Marie will be made playable.
They lost their faith in playable Marie because of that joke.

Well, they have already given us the best present possible...
But what's going to happen, then? Season 2? Playable Stanley? Skullgirls: The Musical?

season pass 2 sounds interesting but uh it would probably take a while before they decide to make another one again

If they do more characters, I would expect a single character release after the pass.

I'm wondering what would be cool to add without tons of art overhead, and something we could throw a few bucks at. Survival mode with upgrades/mods/etc? new colors/effects for old characters? I suppose these small sorts of things are not hype bringers tho.

I have liked the idea of a new boss character. But that might warrant another story or two.

We're probably getting True Ending, we've known they've wanted to do it and it definitely seems like the teasers in each story are building towards something.

I wish I shared your optimism lol
I know, it's hard to top Fukua becoming canon.

What's your totally not optimistic ideas, then? :PUN:

from least to most likely 2023 announcements imo

full sequel
sunset the mobile version (this kills 2e as well)
2nd season pass
bonus single character in s1
true story mode
no more major 2e updates

I don't know a lot about the financials of the mobile version, but I'm not expecting miracles considering character development took twice as long as originally planned lol

Probably my least pessimistic expectation would be an announcement of Season 2 around the time of Marie's release. Apart from that, I'd expect more SGM stuff, like a new Origin Story, or the long-awaited Guild feature. Probably more merchs lol.

Maybe another season of the Webtoon could possibly be expected? I dunno how well the current one did compared to the publisher's expectations.
