USA [Apr 26, 2014] UGC Tournament of Champions (Panorama City, CA)

I thought he lost to you and Zidiane at ECT? I distinctly remember he beat Zid game 1, then Zid switched to Peacock/Bella and won 2 straight, partially because Chris didn't know Dynamo xx Lenny was plus on block.

Well how far a long was that then? All I know is that he hasn't placed in anything with good numbers since Vanilla.

I can be there but I need someone to pick me up and drop me off at the greyhound station pls

It was the most recent ECT I'm pretty sure? So roughly 1 year ago.

Real talk though, Justin and Chris both said that they think SG is a good game they just focus on Marvel and SF cause that's where the competition and the money is.

So no hate, just a no prejudiced ass whopping. After all, the more good things they say about the game and the community, the better.

No Chris is the chillest guy man he's definitely cool peoples.

Just don't lose to him out here.

So, good news/bad news situation.

Good news is that no one lost to Chris G.

Bad news is that no one could beat J Wong except Mike Z and (I think) Negus.

Though, to be fair, West Coast sucks.

I hope he puts some time into the game, comes back to the next west coast SG gathering and bodies everybody. Maybe that could light a fire under the asses of everybody out there.

We all know that's not going to happen though.

Btw he got eliminated by Bang Camaro.

Bang Camaro eliminated him, not Negus. Also only two people were ever going to be able to beat him in a tournament by virtue of tournament mechanics.

He did beat three people in losers, though, but it was render, Stuff, and DJAzure so whatevs.

Im satisfied with how the WC did tbh, you obviously can't sleep on Justin though. I'm just glad he was beating anyone consistently placing though.

I'm just happy I made sure I didn't lose completely free. I was so focused on not getting thrown (because that's what happened to Stuff and render a lot) that I slept on pillar. I think playing against Nekro will cure that.

Dude's got some of the best fundamentals on Earth and that's something this game rewards in spades, no surprise he's able to just jump into the game and take to it as easily as he can. No shame in losing to that.

was it streamed? if so, what channel? and the results for tourney?

The Lab Zero channel streamed it secretly. Wing won. Nekro couldn't beat Mike Z even after Mike Z set down his stick and walked away.

At least you understand, unlike *ahem* 90% of the East Coasters who only care about results.

I couldn't get a solid hit in because his spacing is next to perfect. I need help. Anyone up for helping me analyze my match vs him and help me fill in some of my problems?

I don't really have a BB, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Given the way the first match went down, I think you would've been well served swapping to lp Extend instead of heavy knuckles. You were using knuckles as a counter call to pillar, but never really got anything out of it.

When you were full screen, you never went to build a charge. Squigly just ain't that scary without a charge. I realize it's Justin and he's really good at dictating the pace of a match, but you had plenty of opportunities to start building a charge. That charge lets you have an invincible DP and the godly counters that Center Stage gives you. Your movement was very linear too. It didn't look like you varied your divekicks and, frankly, you didn't use all your buttons. There were a lot of jump shorts and jabs with double jumps, but it was fairly predictable where you would be. Since Squigly can confirm off almost anything, it's kinda worth throwing out buttons.

You also surrendered the corner a little too easily for my tastes. Squigly doesn't have great reversals unless you have a charge, so I feel like you need to hold your ground a little more. When you had opportunities to take back the corner, you never capitalized. There's nothing wrong with using a silver chord just to jump over their stagger state so you can take the corner.

I'll go over it again in more detail later, but this stuff is what stood out to me

tfw you totally had it twice but fuck up because you forget things when you play videogames.

I think that one mistake will haunt me for the rest of my life.
I can only imagine what stream monsters wrote because I forgot big band has sound stun

I had that happen to me way too many times to count. Like at EVO last year, I forgot Peacock had item drop. lol

Dood, you're such an awesome bro right now.

I will say there are no excuses for me losing, but man, you helped me step back and figure out some of the things I was doing doing.

I actually was using H Knuckles because it's all I'm used to, but you are right, I did seem to call it anytime he did pillar.

As for charges, I tend to only charge when I get a throw or H Knuckles hits, neither of which I got. I guess I was getting a little frustrated that I was being out-poked (which I should have seen was gonna happen) and started throwing crap at the wall and hoping something stuck. Unfortunately, it seems that as much I was thinking that I was throwing out different buttons, I was really not varying.

Surrendering the corner: I guess I got a little to reckless trying to chicken block everything with jumpins and pushblocking too often that I always seemed to find my back to the corner. Looks like that's something I still have to work on.

In summary from what I'm learned from at least your analysis:

-Experiment with using Extend as an assist since I'm not capitalizing on when I was actually hitting
-Vary more buttons in the air
-Don't try to pushblock and chicken block anything, because if I'm pushing him away, I'm still finding myself at the corner sooner than later

From what others were telling me after the match at UGC:

-STOP CALLING BIG BAND ASSIST CONSTANTLY

Anyone else down to help me?

Funny the 2 old MvC2 players gave Wong his loses.

@DJAzure I'd work on your mixups a bit more. You had quite a few moments where you were able to try to open up Justin but it just never happened. I don't think I saw a single throw or overhead in that entire set.

Heh... the reason for not throwing was because I personally was afraid of being thrown. Stuff and render got thrown A LOT. So I kept away from the throw and got blown up by the pillar instead.

Don't be that afraid of getting thrown. It's techable and he can't really kill you off a throw. The scaling is significant enough that he'll need at least 2 more resets to get a kill. Especially against a not-skullgirls player, I'm not afraid of his resets.

Congratulations to Jeremiah Beaty for being crowed ToC's Skullgirls Champion! "WingZero" has a history of top level Skullgirls play and has proved his excellence once more by beating #Skullgirls own Michael Zaimont in the finals! Looking forward to his superhero on our "Wall of Champions"
