Hello everyone,

Could someone let me know which console version of SG runs better - PS3 or XBOX 360. I heard that it got optimised a bit for the Beowulf update, so I'll have to check it after that hits too, but as it is right now how does XBOX 360 handle two big bands on screen + assists(or big band as the assist) + projectiles? I know that PS3 chugs like fuck, so I'm wondering if 360 handles this better.

Both of them are different timing wise and basically every tournament runs on PS3 over PC/360. So yeah PS3 is the way to go.

hnngngggg We've been running SG on laptops at locals so that the game doesn't chug when two big bands are on screen, and where I am the meta is pretty big band heavy. There's a possibility for streaming at tourneys here though and streaming from PCs at a major when the orgs are used to streaming from consoles is a huge ?????? from me, so I might just have to suck it up and get used to PS3 timings... Mostly just thinking aloud here but I'll see how it goes

360 is better but PS3 is what is played on for tournies. Best to get used to PS3 slowdown, because going to PS3 from 360 can seriously hamper your game... There are various quirks between either game that don't transfer over... Not that I've played either version since pc came out.

It's funny you asked this the day before Beowulf comes out, since the answer will be different now - at long last 360 runs worse than PS3. :^)

360 has way longer load times, and way longer 8-bit sprite times when those show up.

PS3 shaders and decompression are now WAY more optimized. The lowest framerate I could get on PS3 before at 720p was 36FPS on NMO Arena with Big Band doing Timpani, with a Lenny out and hitting another Big Band and Parasoul and another Lenny and a bike super. Same setup after the optimization is 48FPS, which translates to a savings of 7ms per frame or a roughly 25% speedup. XBox was at 45FPS before and didn't get optimized any further because the shortcuts I used on PS3 aren't available on XBox. So it used to run better than PS3 and now it runs very slightly worse.

PS3 also locks the Home button in Tournament Mode, so even if it weren't already the tournament standard, it should be for that reason alone. It already saved @Dreamepitaph in tournament, hahah.

Salty has been run on PS3 forever and I don't think people there notice any problems. @Weatherbee @WingZero @Some Person ?

Just don't run the game in 1080p and you're fine. :^P

Old Man Corner:
I guess I look at slowdown as perfectly fine, since MvC2/3s/CvS2/GG all have it. The next-gen ports of MvC2 without slowdown made certain things waaaaaaay harder. I'd rather have slowdown than dropped frames in fighting games.

Other than the occasional freeze, but those are most likely to be because we are playing on a fresh new build at Salty. PS3 runs fine. Never played SG on 360 so I can't really give you a comparison. I always figured that SG on PS3 was the tournament standard.

;_;

Compare PS3 to PC then...?
Eehhhh PC feels faster as apposed to PS3. That's the only real difference in terms of offline.

I am so bad at noticing things in builds, so I'm really not the best person to ask.

Tho I will say that playing on the PS3 all this time hasn't had anything strike me as odd or anything, so yeah I'm fine with PS3.

I have unfortunately not played any other version other than X360 (soo far) soo I can't say.

Though I get the impression MikeZ is favoring PS3 (if it's becous of fanboying, different way of programming or the bumpy support from MS (especially when Konami was the publisher) I dunno) soo I would guess PS3.

Or maybe ps3 was the lead platform and has more power under the hood?

Ps3 is better because you can actually find matches and Xbox has always been weird about SGs DLC

I am indeed favoring PS3, because developing on PS3 is MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH
MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH
easier than developing on 360. Plus, the user interface on 360 is way more annoying.

Super slow-down, that's about it. If something happened in the normal part of the game I reckon it would have screwed one of us (probably me) over and we'd curse the heavens and your name, Mike. Then keep on playing anyways.

If you're really wanting to play it on console, go ps3 (until ps4 version is up). Otherwise, a decent pc is really good in keeping perfect framerate and capture/streaming

And roughly any usb controller/stick will work

@Mike_Z ps4 wont lock home Button right?
if not then pls stay on ps3
(I didnt even know what you were referring to until i relooked at videos...thank god)
No, PS4 won't lock Home button. I asked Sony to make it a real feature, with a whole writeup and everything, and they said "No, you might want to consider manufacturing small caps to put over the button" no joke. (-.-)
HOWEVER! Using a PS3 stick on the PS4 basically locks the home button since it doesn't do anything. :^)

Lab Zero Games entering the plastics market!

Will PS4 be the tournament standard when SG is released on it?

I agree with what ken posted. I don't see any disadvantages to PS4, unless there is some kind of an input timing difference.

Also I've had one freeze ever while playing on PS3 and it was during a much longer set in a somewhat cramped room, so I think the lack of cooling may be a factor. It was also an original model and not a slim model, and I've heard the former is more likely to have performance issues.

The one time i've played on 360 I only really noticed the longer loading times.

I think good laptops are an acceptable choice for tournaments (maybe not majors). I've run a little over a years worth of locals on them before we got the PS3 setups at GC. The only issues I recall having were Bit Strife's pad not always working properly the first try and Severin's blazblue stick not working at all.

100% disagree with this. Windows can decide to randomly interrupt the performance of anything it wants. If there is a viable alternative to PCs it should always be chosen.
Now I can go back to disliking you yaaay! :^) We're still New Groove buddies though.

And PS4 is the same as other platforms already (plus extra unfixed bugs, of course), so I don't see a reason not to use it. Aside from the expense of a PS4.

Going to double up on Mike's comments about Windows PCs as someone who's had many PC fighter stations played on by many, many people over the past few years. I have not had good feedback from all our players, save for titles people weren't too familiar with.

If the PS4 JP version come with dual audio JP/ ENG would be the best console version of the game.
