You want to start by positing that we'd pick a color randomly and just go with it?
If you begin from a false premise, your conclusion is false.
For that to be the case, we'd have had to no longer care about the integrity of the work.
Given that I'm here trading stupidity with you it seems like we still care. :^)
The difference between this and Han is that we would not have changed her entire character simply because we didn't like the old one.
If we're forced to choose a new color and that's the color picked, then it fits her because the single person who can authoritatively decide WHAT fits her decided that it does. Fans' opinion of what a character would do does not suddenly become canon and invalidate the creator's decision - that's the bonus of being the creator, the creation is yours. Wolverine x Cyclops is not official no matter how many people wish it were, and conversely Jar Jar Binks really did blow up all those droids accidentally and play the pivotal role he played in the creation of the Empire, as much as I may dislike that.
If someone came to Lucas and said "We're removing all copies of Star Wars from circulation and suing you if Han shoots first" then you know what? "Greedo shot first" would be perfectly acceptable to me, as would "a drunken brawl started and someone hit Greedo over the head with a chair" or even "Greedo suffered from a bout of narcolepsy". In the case that he were forced to change it I wouldn't be able to argue with any new interpretation, no matter how stupid I thought it was or how much I preferred the old one. I'm free to think it's stupid, as you are in this case, but I can't insist that it is "out of character" because that IS now the character.
