Crowdfunding General

So are there any good crowed funded projects that have recently come out (aside from Skullgirls of course)? Everyone talks about projects that are like a year away but I want to see some of the fruits of people's labor.

The Tales of Alltynex was translated and published on Desura (didn't make it to Steam due to greenlight sucking). It's a good game, though everyone already knew that (games been out for like 5 years or so, the kickstarter was just to get it localized.)

The other day I mentioned in the Pirating thread that I've been able to set aside a budget for crowdfunding...
...but maaan, these Kickstarters are really pushin' it this year!!!

Mysterious Cities of Gold: Secret Paths(less than a week)

Taxi Journey

And Cosmic Star Heroine still around the corner? Shiiieeet.

Most of what I've backed hasn't been released either, but a lot of these games have demos that are already pretty fun, so it doesn't concern me.

I just hope Backers remain patient as the games come together though. I definitely foresee some of these projects missing their initial release deadlines, but that's just the nature of creative development sometimes. As long as the dev teams don't go too far over budget, ignore feedback, and/or rush out a mediocre game, everything should work out eventually.

I backed this and it's pretty awesome.

And I am waiting for this card game to come in the mail next month.

It'll probably be a whole new ball game a year from now, when a bunch of products get delivered on.

A bit of a change of pace here: Pandante, David Sirlin's newest card game. The theme seems to be "Poker, if Poker were more joyful and wondrous and less stressful." It has lying, and pandas.

It looks pretty fucking sick, but that's kind of par for the course when it comes to Sirlin's card games.

I really wish I were rich because I want that ~$400 tier with the mysterious minimalist Yomi decks. =(

Wow, these Kickstarters are coming back in force. Hopefully people have gotten their paychecks since the last wave.

Check out what one of the Aquaria guys has been up to:

Also, the campaign for Cosmic Star Heroine has a few days left. It looks like they're good to go, but take a look if you're interested in a futuristic CT-styled RPG. The team mentioned stretch goals in a past update, like an expanded soundtrack, but they don't seem too focused on those right now.

And man, MAJOR bummer that Taxi Journey and Citizens of Earth didn't hit their goals. Those games looked great, so I hope they still see a release at some point. It's kinda sad when some campaigns seem to get ignored next to others, but I guess that's why staying organized is so crucial for these things. I've definitely seen a trend with unsuccessful Kickstarters that either had infrequent updates, or were disorganized with their tiers early on. Crowdfunding is a tough job!

Beautiful artstyle, cat protagonist, seemingly dark story, and great music. I may have to back this.

Well this is the first I'm hearing of Cosmic Star Heroine. Looks super cool. Glad they already hit their goal. Did it even have stretch goals?

They mention "stretch goals" in the FAQ at the bottom of the page, and in this update. It looks like they're not really pushing for them though. You'd think funds for Voice Acting and more HyperDuck music would be a big deal, but they seem more focused on getting the game launched first. I guess that kinda makes sense.

And y'know, sometimes it's rough when you see a campaign post up stretch goals too early, as if the initial goal is a given. The Citizens of Earth page is kinda depressing to look at now. I'm still baffled by how that campaign turned out.

Do you like Adventure Games? Do you like Horror Games? Do you like Isometric 2D games like Fallout 1 and 2?

Check this out. It's called Stasis.

They just need to get around 68 000 more Dollars to fund this game. Also, there's a downloadable Alpha. I'll play this game and maybe donate to it if I like it.

Your description reminded me of the first and best "Alone in the Dark" game. I'd pay for a new one of those.

I tried out the 1st game on DOSBOX briefly, but it's very outdated for me and I actually LIKE 90's games. AITD Inferno was so bad it's good.

Yeah it's very outdated now. But when it came out it was all new tech. And truly spooky and scary. I still remember being shocked by what happened when you read books from the library.

FUCK YEAH!!!!

STASIS HAS BEEN FUNDED!!!

This Isometric Horror Adventure game managed to reach its goal of $100,000 and there's still 4 more days left!

Will the stretch goals get funded as well? Who knows?

I just heard about this game last night called Read Only Memories. Looks like it could be a neat classic style adventure game. Apparently some people have been riled up by it because it features LGBTQ characters, but thankfully that hasn't held the game back from getting funded. I'd never heard of Snatcher, so it makes me wanna check that out too.
There's only about a day left in their KS though. So far they're pulling a great audio team together, including good ol' Virt, so I hope they hit those soundtrack goals.

Strangely enough, following ROM also led me to the KS for Super World Karts GP, a mode7 styled kart racer. I dunno if the world needs another Atari Karts, but at least it looks fun!

I think amazon (if it's through kickstarter) handles the currency conversion for you. And if they're an indie dev releasing digitally, there's no reason for them to be turning down the extra revenue by region restrictions.
