Is any one interested in going? Seems cool how they are expanding but having three different venues could be a hassle. Doesn't seem to make much sense to go just for Skullgirls. No one asked about AnimEvo on stream but with that much convention space there's sure to be more space for just 9 games. I actually like spectating but it seems there won't be any space for casuals on Sunday unless you stay in your rooms, which feels kinda lame.

Pokken is a main game? That's gonna be fun to set up.

I am probably not attending Evo 2016.
I see zero reason to support it, it's expensive and doesn't represent the players, as opposed to the companies, anymore.
I'll see everyone important at Combo Breaker, and not be treated like a second-class citizen to boot.

While I am happy Pokken is a main event, I am more depressed Pokken got in as a main event before Skullgirls....AFTER 4 YEARS.

I actually thought about going cause I wanna get into xrd and SFV possibly, but I am getting the impression that it might be too esports for its own good, I kind of want to see how the event handles such a big upscaling first.

unpopular opinion: all the main stage games except for KI (which is getting TONS of money pumped into it) and pokken I would say are representative of player choice, and despite SG's resurgence of sorts in 2015 even our combo breaker numbers wouldn't cut it for an evo main stage game so i'm not surprised at all SG didn't make the cut

Is anybody seriously hype for Pokken? Maybe I'm just out of touch with the Tekken community but I have honestly not seen any hype for this game outside of a few articles about new character announcements.

It basically looks like one of those Naruto ultimate ninja storm games which aren't exactly known for good tournament turnouts.

Unless I suddenly wake up tomorrow and find $10,000 under my pillow, I seriously doubt I'll be there. Last year was fun, but there's a LOT of things I don't like about it this time around.

- Venue/hotel prices will go up, and having to spend extra money to get better seats during sunday is bullshit. I get that's how arena tickets work, but that's also why I don't go see concerts at arenas anymore.

- The hotel and the actual tournament venues being separate is a huge inconvenience. I don't want to get on a monorail just to drop off my bag and grab another beer. And on top of that, I'm not even 100% sure how getting alcohol into the venue is going to go over (this is a very important thing for me shut the fuck up).

- Revelator is only going to be out in the states for about 5 weeks before EVO. Tekken 7 still won't even be available. I have many problems with this I won't even get into now.

- It's glaringly obvious that this is an event run BY sponsors now more than it is FOR players.

- I'm broke as fuck right now.

I'd honestly rather save my money for events I know give a shit about the people showing up and will be much more enjoyable to hang out with people at. Combo Breaker, CEO, and CEOtaku are my big 3 this year, so I'll see y'all at those.

That's two that aren't, though! And not only aren't, but REALLY aren't.
I would also argue T7, too, because you know it's not actually out on console yet. And Revelator will only have had a month or so here by Evo.

That's an invalid comparison - no game's Combo Breaker 2015 numbers would cut it for Evo main stage because Combo Breaker is NOT EVO.
USF4 had like 275
What you need to look at is the comparison of numbers between games at Combo Breaker, or at NEC. At most recent majors that have decided to include SG (not as a last-minute halfass thing) it's been among the top 5.

Putting unproven and unreleased games in Evo is really getting ridiculous now. First Injustice, then Tekken 7 (twice because that's how long Namco's taking to get it on console already), now Pokken? Seriously, Pokken? Last I checked, that game was not drawing in a whole lot of competitive hype, especially in Japanese arcades where it bombed horribly. If a miracle happens and it somehow does turn out to be a hit when it comes out stateside, great, stick it in Evo 2017, but it should have to prove itself first before taking a spot that could've gone to games that already do have a confirmed scene.

Regarding revelator, even though people won't have had as much time to practice on it (in the U.S. at least) I think it would be foolish to run the likely biggest xrd tournament of the year on an old version.

Regarding numbers, my point is combo breaker WAS our "evo" i.e the event everyone tried to make. For every game that was an EVO main stage game and also at combo breaker, CB wasn't necessarily THE tournament to hit. I think our CB numbers represent what we can get when we make a concerted effort to go to a major. If sg got evo main stage and was the major of the year for SG in 2016, even accounting for growth since CB and random entries from people maining other games we would be hard pressed to reach 200 entrants which is NOT a lot for an EVO main game. Even KI, a game that we all agree is only main stage because people paid for it, got just shy of 400 last year. Of course I can't know that for certain but that would be my prediction, and this is as someone who actually likes SG and would want to support it.

I don't think SG would get 250 even if everyone who was planning on going to combo breaker magically was transferred to EVO, honestly. I kinda gave up on SG ever being at EVO when Persona was put in over UNIEL last year. We don't need EVO to grow the scene. Even if I was able to make it out of state this year, I'd probably be skipping EVO regardless.

CB and CEOtaku and NWM support SG, i'd just stick with them!

I think Revelator being at EVO is okay.

I'm hype for Pokken and will most likely be entering it at Evo. I'm very interested in seeing how that game turns out competitively, and hope some other tournaments give it a chance. Will also be entering SFV and most likely Smash 4, unless they do something silly like reintroduce customs. I'd be hype to see a couple of people there for SG casuals or something, maybe even a tourney if there's enough interest and someone has the will to run it.

What an excellent compromise between playing SG and leaving the house.

I work at the MB arena occasionally, and it'd be just my luck if I were stuck working EVO instead of attending. Then again, that's my best shot at finals so far!

I'm going. It's within easy road trip distance, Eighty Sixed has business there, SFV's fun and PovertEVO's going to be a blast.

If you're ONLY going to a tournament for SG and can only afford one then yeah, go to CB. If you can afford TWO, though? Well yeah okay go to CEOtaku.

BUT IF YOU CAN AFFORD THREE?!?!?!?! You'll still probably not be that excited about Evo if you're only there for SG but see my point is

Fully disagree. There were people that play SG who chose to go to Evo over CB, and you completely underestimate the number of people who ONLY go to Evo, or only would go to Evo if they went to anything.
Again. USF4 at Combo Breaker had 266 pre-reg, USF4 at Evo had 2,227. You simply cannot compare numbers from a Midwest tournament and Evo, as much as you want to.
I would bet money SG could have 450-500 at Evo, easy.

I'm going.
POS clinching my opinion of him. :^P
I thought Evo the last two years was horrible, completely not worth the time or money. You might as well just watch from home. I had a way better time at UFGTX and CB.

Pokken of all fucking games getting evo over SG or... Something else. Is a kick in the teeth. I never expected to see SG at evo as a main game because reasons, but fucking Pokken of all things being in instead of other better games, actually pisses me off.

Kinda also pissed because Revelator, though that's more an arcsys fuckup than evo, and also pissed about T7 a bit... But not really.

I more than likely won't be going to this years evo anyways, but still, I would have made a considerable effort to get there had SG actually been a main game because then I could play SG, sf5 and xrd.

But now I'm kinda whatever about the entire thing. Combo breaker is just to far for me to go to so that's out of the question. Online warrior it is.

Depending on my finances and if SFV really clicks with me I'll try to attend this year seeing as I've never gone and SFV's first year will be wild.
I'll be at Combo Breaker regardless though! <3

I mean in the end of the day, this is still a business. And every game that deserves to make it in is already making it in. Maybe Pokken will turn out to be a great competitive game, and if it doesn't then lesson learned. Personally, I can't think of any other game that deserves to make it in over anything else that's already in

As far as I know you have to play in LAN mode to even be able to use two non-gamepad controllers so....are they gonna need double the setups?

If they really wanted to try something new that is player driven they probably should have gone with Splatoon.

Not going to EVO for SG. After Evo2014 I probably wouldn't go for any game, it was pretty boring outside of playing SG...
That's just me though, I hope others that do go have a good time. =)

I'll probably go again this year just to meet up with friends I don't get to see more than once a year. Despite SG being my favorite/main fighting game, it's still nice to go for every other fighting game there and being with friends. I'll really miss the SG crowd because I was typically hanging around the booth there when I wasn't just out having fun with friends :(

I'll really try to get both evo and combobreaker to happen this year.

What you need to look at is the comparison of numbers between games at Combo Breaker, or at NEC. At most recent majors that have decided to include SG (not as a last-minute halfass thing) it's been among the top 5.

Is there any place that has last NEC's numbers? I remember SG had good numbers that was almost as much as marvel but I wanted to compare it to KI/Xrd and I never saw those.

I don't think SG would get 250 even if everyone who was planning on going to combo breaker magically was transferred to EVO, honestly.

Besides what Mike already said, I personally know like ~4 people who are definitely in the "Oh, is it an EVO Game? Cool I'll actually start playing it now and enter tournaments for it" camp.

Not that these people are exactly quality in terms of long lasting community that we're used to here, but people like that matter for Tournament registration numbers.

Personally, I can't think of any other game that deserves to make it in over anything else that's already in

Tekken 7 is going to be there for a second year in a row before the game is (likely) going to get a release date/is out in America. If this was a tournament in Japan, it wouldn't be a big deal, but this is important since the target location for this tournament will have had extremely limited access to the game. I can't in good conscience say that THAT is fair when there are other game scenes which are established and bigger. It representing the "3D scene" is important but the circumstances are just not right for it this year (or last year), IMO.

And I know it was already used as a joke, but Uniel had great numbers in tournaments, rivaling if not beating out KI among others. If people want to ride the "SG just isn't/doesn't deserve the EVO spot" train, whatever, but it's actually pretty baffling that Uniel hasn't gotten in, especially when it consistently beat out Persona even when Persona was a main game at Evo already.

Have they mentioned anything about the split venue's impacts on side games?

Seeing some tweets from MarkMan indicating the MCZ stage wasn't 100% confirmed?

It wasn't entirely a joke. UNIEL absolutely should have been in last year, and it being left out pretty much caused its scene to wither in favor of the potential for Evo money in P4AU, which was quickly dropped thereafter, hurting both games' scenes in the long run. If UNIEL had been in last year like it should have been, I believe it would still be going strong enough to merit inclusion this year, as well.

SG is kind of a different animal. We gave up on Evo a long time ago and worked to forge our own scene, and thankfully a few majors have taken notice of that and welcomed the game with open arms, showing that its community does have the drawing power for tournaments of their size. I do, also, agree that making SG an Evo game probably would result in it seeing a player boost for that year, however I believe that such a boost would be far more modest than some people's estimates and ultimately still not enough to justify its inclusion, unfortunately.

@Kai put it best on twitter. CB is the right sized room for SG, and this community has done pretty well for itself since realizing that.

This is sounding less and less worth the 20-minute drive. But, it IS Vegas so...
We'll start our OWN tourney - with blackjack! And hookers!

Or just occupy the game shops and diners while discussing who has the nicest hitboxes.
