This really does clear up my confusion, however I feel as if you shouldn't be worrying about this at all, There will be People who will Love your story, there will be people who will b**** and complain saying its similar to this story, KEYWORD SIMILAR!, You shouldn't worry about "Will I be ripping off someone?" What you SHOULD worry is "Will I make an entertaining story?" All stories will be Similar in one way or another, just ignore the people that say "Oh this story is similar because they do the exact same thing" WHO! CARES!!! it's people like them are the reason why people are afraid to make stories because they're afraid a story will be similar or a rip off. I say screw them this is not THEIR story this is YOUR story, if they hate your story tell them to go suck a lemon and make there own story. Bottom line is Don't feel bad that it looks like i took some of your ideas because too be honest i didn't. (in fact i haven't read any Skullgirls fan fics yet, so i need to read some of them :P)Neither of these answers really resonates with what I was trying to express. To be honest, I think I'm more butthurt about all this than anything. Before I start on that, I suppose I should apologize for the frankly crude and non-descript tone of my earlier post. I’ll try to enunciate myself better this time.
The biggest problem I have with the story is what I think to be a personal matter regarding empathy and originality. Allow me to draw some comparisons: If today I published a Skullgirls fanfiction piece about Leduc sneaking out of the ASG labs and exploring New Meridian, during which he gets embroiled in the conflict between Ms. Fortune and the Mafia, I would expect that AceZTeller would be absolutely livid about it – and with good reason, too! If I were to write a story about Squigly and Filia meeting up after a new Skullgirl makes itself apparent, and then going on a riveting adventure filled with twists and turns, it should be a given that Lockjawsaga (as well as most of the Skullgirls community, I’d expect) would lynch me for having the sheer impenitence and audacity of doing so. Similarly, if I tried to make a story with a premise bearing too much similarity to any of Zugzwang’s work, I would not be able to continue without some form of grim retribution.
Now, here I sit – and I am seeing a story about an OC Mafia-turncoat helping Irvin and Ms. Fortune to pull the plug on the Medici’s human trafficking network. Is my anger in this situation not justified?
Well of course it isn’t. I’m sitting on a chair in front of a computer miles and miles away from where you are. What can I do aside from ranting?
My writing isn’t the best, as I’ve said already. It’s rough around the edges, it needs proofreading and more often than not I can guarantee that it won’t hold a candle to the narrative brilliance exhibited by other authors here. Maybe as such I don’t have right to defend my own meagre ideas as original – maybe it’s like all those ‘Skullboys’ renditions, in which the foundation is just so easy to think of that it can’t really be said that one person laid claim to it first. However, I have heard no such opinions against myself and not for lack of asking either. To this end, I have applied inductive reasoning to come to the conclusion that I have been copied.
Maybe this was not the intention. Maybe it is only me in my paranoia and belligerence that sees this similarity. Maybe the community will assert that it is I, and not you, who is the imitator. I know for a fact that I am anything but pleasant in conversation and critique.
TL;DR I'm thinking that you may have taken my ideas and passed them off as your own. Does this clear your confusion?
All I can say about your story is, Not bad kid not bad at allFirst time writing fanfiction and I'm still kinda new to Skullgirls too but I randomly started doing this for fun and don't know what the heck to think of it so far, if anybody can tell me what the heck I'm doing that'd be much appreciated. This particular one isn't done either XD
‘Legend tells of an ancient artifact that can grant a woman’s wish…The Skull Heart, however if she is impure of heart her wish will be corrupted and she will turn into an immensely powerful, twisted being of destruction…The Skull Girl’
The view pans out from the words detailing the story of destruction as a young man closed the book he was reading the description from. Placing the book inside of his bag that he had by his feet on the floor of the large blip like ship carrying a variety of people inside. “...what a load, only granting the wish of a woman. I’ve never heard of such a more sexist thing in my life.” He huffed with a dull expression as he crossed his leg and rested his cheek upon his palm as his elbow sat upon the window seal to his left. His dull eyes drifted to the left and to his sight was nothing but a sea of clouds.
Nothing but a sea of clouds since we left the ground, I was honestly hoping I’d get to see a little more of the world below as we travelled since there’s not much else to do in this ship we have to take in order to get to the Canopy Kingdom. Not even a movie. Well, anyway, I’m going to try and see if I can find this Skull Heart and make a wish for myself. What wish I’ll make? I dunno. I should probably fix that…
“What’s all this talk about wish granting, man?” A young girl from the seat in front of him spoke up as she looked over the back of her seat.
He looked at her with a raised brow in confusion. “Excuse me?”
“You’re going crazy back here and I’m trying to play Skullgals on my handheld! You know you were actually speaking aloud and not narrating, right?”
He simply looked at the young girl for a brief second as if not wanting to reply to her intentionally. “Wow. Breaking the fourth wall this early? I can already tell this is gonna suck.”
The young girl simply gave a cold stare to him before realizing he didn’t look familiar. “Hey, you look kinda…different. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you around before.”
“That’s because I’m not from where you’re from. My home is…very far away. I’ll be living in the Canopy Kingdom for a little while. I’m looking for something so I’ll get it and get out.” He turned his attention back out to the window, trying to dismiss the little girl with body language.
The girl simply looked at him with an intrigued look. “Oooooh, new guy?” she asked before forming a cocky grin. “Well you’re not home anymore! It’s a whole new world out here.”
“I know.” He said unenthusiastically still looking out to the clouds.
“My sister is actually the crown princess of the Canopy Kingdom.”
The young man’s eyes slightly widened as his eyes turned back at the young girl. “Your sister is a princess? Wouldn’t that make you a princess as well?”
The girl nodded with a proud smile. “What’s your name?”
“…I can’t give out my real name but you can simply refer to me as The Player.”
“The player?” she asked as she placed a finger on her bottom lip with her eyes looking up, taking a moment to let the name sink in. “Whatever, I’m Umbrella. And if you’ll excuse me I’ve gotta use the little girl’s room!”
She jumps up from her seat and runs to the back of the blip, the sound of a door opening and shutting could be heard as she disappeared. The Player simply shook his head and turned back to the boring view of clouds.
How did I end up meeting a princess the day I decided to come out here? I hope she isn’t she isn’t a plot point…I just want to get this Skull thing and make my wish. I tried looking for another artifact that would grant my wish but there’s 7 of those located around the world and then I’d have to talk to some dragon about it, screw that! This was much simpler. I hope I’m narrating to myself correctly this time.
The view of clouds begun to slowly change and the thick clouds started to die down as the view of a large sprawling land could be seen in the distance.
The intercom at the front of the ship turned on. “Good evening ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We will be arriving in the Canopy Kingdom shortly. I repeat we will be arriving in the Canopy Kingdom shortly.”
First thing I do when I get down there is looking for a diner or something to get me something to eat. I probably should’ve eaten before coming out on the flight…but I didn’t think it would’ve took 24+ hours! And the service sucked, I should get my money back…
He stood up from his seat and looked back to the doors at the back of the ship to see if he saw any sight of Umbrella but she was nowhere to be found. He sat back in his seat shaking his head to himself as he checked his bag to make sure he had everything before the ship landed at port.
Ok, seriously, she still can’t be pissing…if anything I could’ve at least got her to show me around or something. Maybe even let her pay for my food if we found a diner or something. Normally I’d get crap for it but she’s a princess. She’s rich! I ain’t gotta feel bad about that.
He took out a small book titled “Canopy for Idiots” and turned a few pages before stopping on the section he wanted to read.
“Ruled by the royal Renoir family, the Canopy Kingdom is a sprawling land of vast variety, with sights of beauty contrasted by realms of despair. King Renoir’s ruthless war campaigns lead to explosive technological and cultural growth, but only through grave ethical and moral sacrifices.
Seven years ago, the world was engulfed in conflict, in what became to be known as the Grand War. Queen Nancy Renoir found the Skull Heart and wished for peace, but found herself transformed into the most powerful Skullgirl to date as a result. In the end, the three nations had to stop their war to team up to defeat the former queen – in the end her wish was granted, as an uneasy peace formed following her demise.”
Well that sucks. While this Skull Heart thing does sound dangerous it ain’t say anything about turning any man into a Skullboy, and why is it that only the women get to make a wish? Has any male tried making a wish upon the thing? Why don’t they just make their wish but at the end say “without turning me into the Skullgirl”? I guess as I’m walking I should watch for plot holes.
A couple of minutes later the flying ship finally landed in its port. All the passengers inside gathered their things and walked out of the 3 doors that were opened for their exit, The Player threw the bag over his shoulder and exits through the front door.
“Comin’ out and feelin’ about 10pounds lighter!” Umbrella came out in a rather victorious tone. She was surprised to see that the ship was nearly deserted. Even more surprised to see that The Player has left as well. She growled with an annoyed look as “Jerk…” muttering out of her mouth.
Meanwhile The Player was already well on his way, the only thing he had was the bag over his back as he traversed the bustling streets of New Meridian, large airships similar to the one he was riding on earlier soaring overhead.
“Wow….this place is huge. Wonder where I should start to look for th-” Suddenly he was ran into by a mysterious figured in a black trench coat, the impact was enough to make both of them fall to the ground. “Ack!” he grunted as he hit the ground, he stood up and turned to one who bumped into him. “Why’d you run into me like that?!” he asked in a rather annoyed tone as he removed the coat off of the body that hit him, he could only freeze upon seeing the body before him…there was no head on its shoulders, the player eye twitching from the sight.
“There it is!” A feminine voice called out. The player’s eyes slowly drifted up to see a head moving toward him and the body that was lying on the ground. The head was upside and had feline ears, using them to move about as if it was normal. “Thank you for catching my body, I was chasing it for a few blocks.” The body on the ground started to move on its own and eventually sat up, rubbing the empty space on its shoulders as if scratching its head…which it was clearly missing. “I’m down here!” the head yelled out to the body which felt around the ground before finally placing its hands upon the head and placing it on its shoulders. The head and body being a perfect fit as they reconnect. “There!” the newly formed cat woman stated with a cheerful smile.
The Player was still looking in frozen disbelief, a dropped jaw and shrunken eyes.
“Um-” The feline barely spoke a word.
The player jumps back and pointed at the young woman. “Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!”
The least I can say is that if you want to write, then go for it. As I always recommend, get it proofread by one or two people before you release it for public consumption.
Oh I forgot that this thread existed.
OK, I'm gonna make a confession. I have Skullgirls OCs, a lot them actually. It's come to a point where I'm actually considering writing a story about them. The protagonist will be based on a major character in the original epic poem of the Hero King, Beowulf. His name was Wiglaf and he was the bravest warrior under Beowulf's command.
I'm gonna wait until Beowulf's story mode is released just in case I have to tailor the plot to it, but this fan fiction will generally not tie in with the canon story of Skullgirls. If anyone would like to know more then feel free to ask.
No they're probably normal human beings.
Yes, but that has nothing to do with the topic now does it?
1. I'm not writing an origin story, I'm writing what could be most appropriately called a spin-off. There will be nearly no canon characters involved, really I'm just borrowing the plot and setting to tell something original.
Think about how much of a waste of time it would be if it turns out that there's already a Wiglaf in the middle of writing this story. If I'm going to do this then I'm going all the way. I'm not going to settle for some half-assed 20 page short story about Filia going on a date with Carol. It'll be a book, and it'll be my largest literary undertaking.

I'm going to take the necessary preparations, and that means I will not rush this.
So basically a new wacky paint job like Pony Fantasy 6?
Since my earlier post regarding what content is allowed to be posted here on SkullHeart wasn't as clear as I would have liked it to be, I am going to ask everyone posting here to listen up. When posting the link to a fanfiction/short stories please make sure to keep these next few points in mind:
• Clearly mark whether fanfiction is NSFW or not. Please be considerate with your posting of Not Safe For Work content. Before you post anything, consider if you'd be happy if your boss, teacher, younger sibling, or parent saw your fanfiction. If you think they might disapprove please mark it as NSFW.
• Place clear tags with your story of what to expect. These can be here are many people that use this site who do not want to be subjected to certain types of content. These could be from the story's genre (adventure, slice-of-life, romance, or any combination) to general thematics you think other members should know about (course language, graphic violence, or adult themes).
• Should your fanfiction become exceedingly graphic or pornographic do not post them here. This site is not the place for that. That means no lemons, excessive gore/torture, r*** scenes, etc. If you know that people enjoy your story and would like to continue to read it, then by all means establish contact with one another via single or group PM.
If, for whatever reason, you ignore these three pointers (If anyone has any more they would like to add please let me know via PM) then I will take action accordingly. Please do not feel as if you can't post anything here anymore because I for one am always interested in the creative efforts and pieces made by SH members and fans of Skullgirls. And if you have any questions, problems, or concerns feel free to contact me and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
This is more a general post that I should have made on the first page of the thread. I am at fault for not doing so and I'm really sorry that it seems as if I am jabbing at you.
Has anyone thought of any AUs(alternate universes). You know, those things where you change the setting a bit or put the characters in a completely different one. I can think of two of the top of my head: A world without the Skullheart or what if Peacock was the Skullgirl instead of Marie.
The only AU I found that's been really thought through is this college one where the cast are all humanised and in college,(Link) And I like the idea because it looks like light-hearted fun. Just look how happy, Squigly and Filia are.
If a first person look at the Black Egrets is up your alley, I STRONGLY recommend "Clattering Brass" by An Unassuming Man on Fanfiction.net. The author has perfect grammar, his OC isn't a Gary-Stu, and he has a remarkably realistic take on military tactics, as he makes the Egrets out as a "SEAL/SAS" style group, in addition to being bodyguards. Show him a bit of support. (He has like no pageviews)
