Final Fantasy

but I'd rather have a character have one form and one moveset than a character with two movesets for two different forms.

and what worse is it's always my favorite Final Fantasy that gets shafted in the Dissidia games.

IV has the most reps in NT right now tho

Dissidia Cecil is honestly more interesting imo
FF4 Cecil has a cry about being a monster, changes his clothes and then everything in life works out for him so he can always be the moral victor. He's a sexist butthole too
Dissidia Cecil is just so chill and nice, he looks at his whole person and uses it to advance himself rather reject an aspect of him. He's like a dude who becomes super zen after going to jail.

yeah, ignore killing a child's mother, her entire village, fighting his brother and best friend to save his fiancee, constantly has to watch his comrades die to help him fix his mistakes, and essentially be forced to become king after his brother pretty much left Baron with nobody else to rule but Cecil. whatever it takes to keep Cecil from being a better character than he is.

how about Next we have Firion be as interesting as he was in 2? y'know really show the quality of FF2 as a whole, which is no quality at all?

killing a child's mother, her entire village

Good start to a character arc, for sure.

fighting his brother and best friend to save his fiancee,

"It's okay, Cecil, you don't need to worry about having a moral dilemma over your father figure becoming a paranoid, bitter, militant tyrant, he was actually replaced by a demon who did all those bad things!"
-hours later-
"It's okay, Cecil, you don't need to have a moral dilemma over your best friend being a traitor, he was actually being brainwashed by an evil moon wizard and was good all along!"
-hours later-
"It's okay, Cecil, you don't need to have a moral dilemma over your brother being an evil moon wizard because it turns out he was being brainwashed by a second, different evil moon wizard, and was Good All Along"

constantly has to watch his comrades die to help him fix his mistakes

Ah, yes, the many many, very very, completely permanent deaths of Final Fantasy IV, a game that shows that even children aren't safe from it's willingness to kill off characters forever, with no chance of ever coming back through any means nor conveniently survive impossible odds. I wept when Rydia was eaten by Leviathan and never came back, when Palom and Porom turned to stone and were not able to be recovered, when Yang valiantly stayed behind to shield his allies from a massive explosion, when Cid leapt from the airship bomb in hand and gave his life to protect his dear friends from pursuers. Those final, unquestionably irreversible and irrevocable deaths shook me to the core.
Or they would have if any of them stuck, lol. Least Tellah had the decency to die and stay dead like a champ.

essentially be forced to become king after his brother pretty much left Baron with nobody else to rule but Cecil.

"Gee, Cecil, there's no one left to rule the kingdom, guess you'll have to step up and take to a position you are woefully unqualified for, since there's no way to dissolve the monarchy and form a council of all the nobles and politicians that Baron obviously and definitely has, but I'm sure that you'll be a wise and just and good and kind king that is very successful because -aggressive handjob noises-

whatever it takes to keep Cecil from being a better character than he is.

Now he gets it! Glad to see you can understand the narrative stumblings of FF4 while still enjoying it!

Now this is barely coherent, but I get the sense that you're randomly attacking an unrelated game as an indication that you have no actual argument or point at all here.

now after resizing that, I can say that some of the stuff you brought up is from The After Years, a game which went out of its way to tell the story of Final Fantasy 4.... again. some deaths even were ret-conned between games. To the point where many fans actually hated how unresolved plots like Palom and Porom were just suddenly "look, they're back!" at least they had enough respect to let Tellah stay dead.

also, you mention playable characters, but you also forget to mention Rydia's mother, Edgar's fiancee, and the several comrades Cecil had in Baron that were replaced by monsters. plus, you say Cecil is sexist, and I'm just gonna use the one example I know people like to use: The Airship to the moon.

when Cecil wants Rydia and Rosa to stay home, its not because they're women. Rosa is Cecil's love who Cecil fought hard to save and the last thing he wants to do is put her in more danger. And for Rydia, she's basically the catalyst which started Cecil's path to redemption. he started out as the bad guy, a first for Final Fantasy, and the last thing he wants to do is have her die as well because of him, like her mother.

I can understand not liking 4, I know its not the best in the series, its just my favorite, but at the very least keep the context.

It's still dumb as hell to go to your healer and someone who wields phenomenal magic power and tell them to hold down the fort while you go to the moon w/ a dude who has proven to be subsceptible to Moon Wizard Brainwashing and a ninja who dies in a stiff breeze.
If they wanted to make a better scene, they could have very well made it so that Cecil tries to go alone, expecting/planning to sacrifice himself as atonement for all he's done, only to be reassured by his companions that they're going together and that he's coming home alive, rather than singling out Rosa and Rydia like a butthole.

I’m mainly talking about story elements, not elements referring to the RPG mechanics in general. At that point, Cecil is a good healer and tank so he felt he could hold down Rosa’s position as a healer. Like, it’s a scene that resolved itself and gives more characterization to some characters that weren’t getting va lot of it in the previous arcs in FF4’s story.

Also, I’m not even asking just paladin. Either give me dark knight or paladin. I’d be fine with Cecil in the middle of his journey trying to bid farewell to his bloodstained past and vanquish the dark knight. I mean, we can get Noctis being pulled in while riding on the middle of a highway but nobody else? All I want is a whole moveset so that Cecil isn’t one of the lower tier characters again.

It's been a while since I checked the meta but Cecil was actually in a good spot last time I checked. Paladin has solid lockdown and Dark Knight has strong area denial, combined with an HP attack like Holy/Dark Flame and he's was a notorious harasser. Dunno how he checks out now, but he was good when I last looked into it

I just remember people used to say that Cecil was always low tier in the other Dissidia games.

He was, but the change to team based battles lets him work more as a versatile attacker, albeit a slow one due being a Vanguard type.

Btw is it me or do the heroes vastly out number the villains this time around?

but is there any villain interesting enough to add from XIII or XV?
really?
is there?
Caius would definitely be a contender, considering He's one of the few antangonists in FF history you literally cannot win against. He also has a cool theme, a cool sword, and power over many different Bahamut types.

Ardyn is pretty popular overall too
Enough to be getting a DLC episode of his own

Frankly I want them to skip over Caius and just add Ultra Pope
Make a moveset for a robot old man

Look as fun to hate as Bartandelus is, I would be BEYOND PISSED if Bartandelus got in over Seymour.

When is the hand that slapped the braid out of Luna’s hair gonna be confirmed for the villain side?

You make a very good case in Barty's inclusion over Seymour

I refuse to let Seymour and his Deep Space 9 lookin hair go HD for more than the FFX remaster

Hey, whoa. That’s too far Tech. How dare you? How dare you sully Deep Soace Nine with a comparison to seymour?! You’re lucky we’re friends. I wouldn’t let this slide with just anyone.

Also I forgot how immortal Caius is. He can't even kill himself thanks to Yuel's Paradox. And even at the end of Lighting Returns it seems he decides to become a God of Death is is now the immortal shepard of lost souls. Huh.

Basically he's one of the most powerful FF antagonists to date (whether he's the best is a totally different argument) so his abscence would be kinda awkward.

Yeah, but that would be acknowledging the Toriyama wank bait that it Lightning Returns.

I just wanna know how far they'll reach for characters
Kingdom Hearts is out, but will we see the motherfuckin' Riskbreaker Ashley Riot? Will the dream of beating on people while wearing assless chaps truly be realized?

Maximillian got permission to do some breakdowns of the cast to show off til Dissidia's release later this month

1. VIVI
2. I dunno, Locke or something
3. Uhm
4. Ardyn
5. Yuna for sure
6. another vivi i cant believe it

I'm gonna say the male from an older game is Minwu
Nomura has been pushing for him for ages
I'm gonna send a prayer to heaven that nomura's fiat makes one of these characters Sazh too

Nomura was on the stream and clarified the first character is a bad guy. Ardyn or Cid Raines I guess.

Sazh over Fang or Snow? That's interesting... Tis is a team based brawler so having Sazh buff your allies as the match goes on while being way too old for this shit would actually make him stand out among the black mages and warrior types.

I already put my stake in for Seymour and Caius for the male villain, so for others I think Fran would be nice to have back. FFX-2 Rikku would be fun, not sure if we have a Thief archtype character yet. I dont have a vast knowledge of the older games unfortunately, can anyone come up with some characters? My knowledge is limited to X and up.

Either Rinoa, Garnet, Fang or Aranea for the new half.

I'm really glad that only one of the characters in the DLC is a returning character, because most people in here know how thirsty I've been for newer characters.
Better hope one of those new characters is Gaius Van Baelsar or Zenos Yae Galvus.
I also don't think Adryn is in consideration due to FFXV Only being a year old and his moveset/presence as a villain is a spoiler.

Ardyn's too popular to leave out
I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped him in as soon as they could

Oh I just looked at the article, and only one of the characters teased are from the older half....which is weird to say out loud seeing as FFX is a newer half and is about 18 years old by now.

Returning female from the newer half, eh? That means its either Tifa, Yuna, or Prishe. We don't have an XI representative yet (I dont think?) so its probably her, though with both of the other candidates being so popular im not so sure.

Another character from the older games thats a newcommer? Going to be difficult to pin one down, but from my limited knowledge I'll place a chip for either GIlgamesh or the Autarch of Flame.

And finally 4 newcommers from the newer games. 3 males, one female. It doesnt specify heroes or villains so the potential is huge. anyone from Auron to Zenos has a shot, im pretty excited.

Tifa isn't an option. With the inclusion of FF XV the old half stops at VII.

Gilgamesh was already in 012 too, so he's taking a backseat too

I kinda want the "Older" character to be Xande from Final Fantasy 3 with his FFXIV Design.
I, too, liked Asura's Wrath

http://www.siliconera.com/2018/01/09/dissidia-final-fantasy-nt-developers-talk-setting-many-heroes/

Interview with a bunch of details of Dissidia, the what to expect from the story, the chronology and whats to come in the future. GOing to be pasting the bullets here.

  • The story draft was written by Kazushige Nojima (Scenario writer for Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy X, etc.), who also supervised the game as a whole.

  • The basis of the draft was written by Saori Itamuro (Final Fantasy XV lead scenario designer, RPG planner for Dissidia Final Fantasy and Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy).

  • Setting work has been put into parts such as “why is there a war taking place in that world” and even “Why there are up to six characters fighting in a battlefield.”

  • The main enemy you must fight in Dissidia Final Fantasy NT has been shown several times in the final trailer. It should ring a bell to those who played the previous games.

  • As for the chronological order, it goes PSP version → PS4 version → arcade.

  • The arcade version’s opening movie makes sense after playing it on PS4.

  • The PS4 ending will also help in understanding why the warriors are fighting in the arcade version.

  • Making character’s dialogue with each other more appealing was one of the proposals for the game. It would’ve felt like something was missing had they only stuck with self-introductions and lines from their respective titles.

  • The developers feared that the story could get a bit complicated with too many characters including the likes of Ramza, Kain, Ace, and such, so there wasn’t much spotlight time for characters other than the main numbered ones. However, since they exist in the timeline, Square Enix would like to add event scenes for them sometime in the future.

  • There are some characters that hardly have much of a role in the story, and this is due to adding even more with six characters in the Season Pass.

  • Disconnecting during a battle will automatically count as a loss. Square Enix is thinking of a penalty for those who intentionally disconnect, but this has yet to be implemented.

  • The PS4 version will update after the arcade version does. After the release of Dissidia Final Fantasy NT the developers are hoping to go at a pace of one new additional character every two months, like the arcade version of the game.

  • The Battle of Gods (an arcade version event) won’t be available on the PS4 version, so Square Enix is thinking of holding a different kind of event for it instead.
