So recently we ran a costume design contest for Eliza here on Skullheart. We'd like to run more contests in the future, but not just strictly for art. I heard rumors some people actually play this game so it only seems fair there's some contests aimed at those guys. I have another thread running in the art forum asking for ideas, so head over there if you have any art themed suggestions!

Simple question: does anyone have any ideas for contests we could run that focus on gameplay?

Also, what kinds of prizes would you like to see for these contests? (Please don't ask for stuff like getting content added to the game, like palettes or whatever)

Stylish combo contest is a gimme. I'd think it'd be better to judge on something like that for crazy points rather than practicality.

And a random idea from trying to think of stuff I'd actually be able to participate in, how about a music contest? Performing a track from the game on our instrument (or voice) of choice.

Just throwing things out there.

Updated the first post a bit. I'm also looking for suggestions on prizes for any contests we might run too. (Please don't ask for stuff like getting content added to the game, like palettes or whatever)

If it's feasible, maybe a prize for this sort of contest could be a custom arcade stick? Tried and true.

Problem with that is that clutch comebacks could easily be staged. Theres no way youd know for certain if it was genuine or not. Plus it wouldnt be easy or remotely quick to judge either. Comeback vids would likely require at least 2 mins commitment each time, compared to several seconds like the eliza comp or a little longer for a single xcombo or reset.

The more ithink about it the more I think that a combo comp is pretty much the only way you can go, either most stylish or most damaging. Perhaps you could maybe do best mixup too.

Unorthodox assist tournament. Tired of seeing the same Updos/Hornet Bombers over and over again? This tournament requires all players to use assists that almost no one ever uses. So basically, no lockdown/DP/armor/projectile assists. Could be fun to see how players do without those moves backing them up, though I could see it being a hassle trying to figure out which assists are "unorthodox".

I just joined this forum, so I missed the art contest :( But I like the idea of Skullgirls figures! Maybe you should give away a figure (or character-based merch.)for a contest based on the character? (i.e. Most projectiles in a Peacock combo, Most napalm tears hit in a row in a Parasoul combo, etc.)? I know I'd like that.
 
I have an idea, what if we held a tournament where players test their skill against other players? Like two players would play against each other until one player wins 2 games, and then the player who won moves on to the next round and the player who lost moves into a second bracket with people who have also lost (a losers bracket if you will). Eventually there will only be 2 people left and they will play till someone wins 3 games, or the person in the losers bracket wins 6 games total.

Man I do that when I'm just bored. come on. let's make it a little more interesting. Parry the whole match and the only attack you can do is your lv5.
 
How would you build meter if you can only use your level 5? If it's BB only, no one's hitting you to cause meter gain either.

uh hello parry builds like crap ton of meter. and teching throws, and getting hit. they all build meter. so by like 70 second mark of a match you should have about 3.5 bars of meter. a lv5 is quite possible.

If you're both playing as Big Band and both only parrying, who exactly is doing these attacks and throws you're parrying and teching?

EDIT: I misunderstood. Reading comprehension is not a requirement of being an English teacher. Carry on.

A big list of stupid rules applied to making a combo.
Examples:
- Lowest Damage wins
- Must include raw tag to Double
- Must include XYZ move
- Has to have undizzy between X and Z
- Unbind HK button
- Has to include this character
- Unbind 'up'
- Has to include an enemies attack
- Has to start from this super

Blah Blah Blah I could go on forever.
Something that makes people launch Skullgirls.exe and spend sometime being creative in the lab.

Palette contest. (Win a poster of x character with your palette to hang on a wall, or maybe a shirt?)
Big Band Song contest. (Tool assisted inputs allowed, it's about the composing, not the input skill. No covers?)
Draw-over contest again, but instead of clothes, redesign a character? Let's make ANOTHER Filia/Fukua. :^) Or maybe let's draw over Cerebella. I dunno. Nothing too OCey, mary sue, obscure, but the idea is redraw the character -repurposed- like, make Shotobella. Zoner bella. Vice-versa if the arms were CANNONS. I dunno this is dumb but it's cute.

Most damage (no matter how you achieve it!) contest? Fukua LVL 5s will be seen.
Voice the Skullheart contest?
Screenshot editing contest? Like, reliably draw a character from another series into a Skullgirls screenshot and make it look real?

Waste the most meter!
Worst scaling!
Most hits! (without triggering sparks)

I'll think of more stuff another time.

Really it was kinda hard to tell. I haven't smelt the rock 'n roll in a long time buddy. Could have fooled anyone. And if you think you're better, then show up gllt. Give us one of your grand Bella combos. Give Us a "WomboCombo".

How are these something for the Gameplay forum?

Best contest would be something like
"Make a matchup list for one of your characters (for all three scenarios of "with likely assists", "1v1", and "what meter changes"), with sensible reasoning that doesn't fall apart to five lines of questions"

Cus hey, this would result in something actually useful coming out of the contest (some touchups and we're likely to have at least three quarters of a matchup chart), rather than more garbage unreliable character specific combos that deal 50 damage more than some basic shit

Yeah, if you don't respect me (which is probably fine, people have the right to dislike solobella), at the very least respect guitalex.

u know that my stuff is dumb in the dumb way and not kinda usefull in a practical way like guitalex or gfarmer. or anyone. :S just look at Snap 'N Slap.

Fugazi tournament?
winner gets a cool shirt? That way the barrier of entry isn't so high that us normals can't join in.
I personally think that BB should be allowed for Fugazi, but you can only do light dash punch, since it has no armor.
oh and using other moves is allowed as long as they don't make contact.
