It's that time of year! Awards season for games, where people bicker about what's good and what's overrated. To keep things simple, let's set some ground rules for this thread:

Rules
Games released from November 1, 2013 to October 20, 2014. This coincides with the Golden Joystick Awards formatting.
If a game is multiplatform, you can post it in either category but not both.
No bickering on games. Everyone has an opinion and is entitled to it.
No troll posts, please.

Game of the Year (Console): Shovel Knight
One Paragraph Explanation:
It is, in my eyes, a perfect game. The controls are tight, the writing is funny, the levels are creative, the graphics are simple but not limited by their 8-bit style, all of the songs get stuck in your head... and it's short. This is a good thing - upon beating it, I wanted to play it again. Heck, I wanna play it right now. And the free DLC coming later is awesome too!

Game of the Year (Handheld): The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
One Paragraph Explanation:
This game starts off the complete opposite of 3D Zelda's - you are dropped into a world with barely a tutorial and told to adventure. This is what I've always wanted, really. It's old and new in complete harmony. I can only hope Zelda U follows suit.

Game of the Year (PC): Dynasty Warriors 8: Extreme Legends Complete Edition
One Paragraph Explanation:
This one's a bit weird cause I don't PC game really at all. This one I did play at work quite a bit and man was it fun. There's a primal joy to just ripping through thousands with a fan or a cute anime girl throwing boats at people. If not for the release date being pushed back, however, this one would go to Dragon Age: Inquisition. I played that at work as well, and while I can't say anything about it specifically, I will say it's one of the most amazing games I've ever played. Pick it up when you can.
