hey its a training thing

ron's tourney on friday: lost in a close 2-1 to hirokuni in winners and then got 3-0d in losers by dawn but the way I put it when i was talking to twerk after was "I didn't lose to dawn, I lost to myself". Game 2 was full of execution errors, that game should have EASILY been mine, and game 3 i made a handful of really bad mistakes too. I felt like I learned to play a bit more patiently though, and I did a ft10 with mock right after and barely lost 9-10 which was better than I did vs him last time we played.

Last night played ft30 with @Cadenza , apparently he streamed it so I'll probably watch the ft10 or so but I felt like after a while I was just playing for the fun of it cause I didn't really make a lot of improvements. Lost pretty badly but one area I felt I improved a LOT in was pushblocking; I was a lot better at using pushblock to keep him out and not just absolute guard through drill (and eat a mixup right after anyway). Actually managed to escape from the corner from para/drill with a MUCH higher success rate than previously. Main things to work on I would say would be antiair better and not get tossed so much (pretty sure 80% of the times i got opened up by his para in neutral it was by ground throw), but again this is just from what I recall, I might notice things when i check the tapes.

I always feel this way against dawn. He doesn't really let you get away with anything.

throwback thur-wait friday: match analysis. played ft10 with sonicfox but my computer apparently struggles with running both OBS and SG now and i'm wayy too lazy to go back and record from the replays so I only got a few games, they're probably pretty representative though. no upload yet but i want to put my notes down while i'm watching it

-i'm jumping way more than him and he read it
-he definitely likes that IAD j.mk pressure, i've been playing with it a bit but i don't go nearly as ham as him
-watch for jab on the way down
-i need to have better resets and reset earlier + in the air, probably should find anti-gregor setups too...is what i would say if people played filia ayy
-he likes to meaty people on landing
-man i fucking hate that c.hp fucks up happy birthdays, i even confirmed the hit off of the c.mk but i autopiloted into c.hp and then desperately hoped i could sideswitch back and save it but it was a lost cause. basically I need to not always do c.hp after i confirm c.mk hits, i can do other things like s.hk or snap or whatever
-my pushblocks got MAD baited
-i wonder if i could have picked up that happy birthday, i thought that string would work but maybe i should have used the real ye olde one with the 2 j.mps
-l airball into button on the way down in the corner seems alright
-c.mp sweep into psyche or not psyche with bomber is something he does a lot, something similar with fukua too, its good i should do it too
-sonic is doing iad j.mk a lot, i'm not sure if i think its better than iad j.lk fastfall or not
-fukua j.hk air l fireball huh
-no fucking reason at all to not punish that blocked gregor with s.lp instead of c.lk i fucked up
-at least i remembered not to dhc at fullscreen again but forgot dhc is no hitstop at all
-good read on my punish

overall i thought my blocks were actually pretty good, a lot of me getting opened up was me being beat out trying to do things or getting read. i think i really need to work on my setplay and opening people up because i think i am too easy to block and/or mash against

i had a bunch of stuff i was going to try after CB but even though i didn't go to CB i still didn't try anything cause i haven't been playing a lot of SG, now that everyone is back though im gonna jump right back into my new character crisis. Fukua is obviously a very strong character, she does a lot for my team and once u get the hit its vortex into dead, but I have 2 main problems with fukua. First, I don't REALLY like playing lame (but i can do it if i have to, I just enjoy atpRtsd more). Secondly (and the main problem), with an anchor char I should be able to come back if I lose my first 2 chars against a team, and I really don't know how to do that. More specifically, fukua seems to be a character that annoys you with fireballs/shadows/etc and forces you to approach, where she can then use her high priority normals to force you to block or get hit. The problem is that if I sit back and try to just throw shit when I'm down to 1v3 I will lose; I can't afford to just sit back and play lame at such a huge life deficit, but I don't really know how to approach or go on the offensive as fukua without an assist. Definitely going to watch Sonic's CB games again since he came back as solo fukua 1v3 a ton of times, but I am also considering replacing her with someone else. I want to try val (which if i liked her would transition to me being yet another team duck player), bella, and eliza (who I have tried and really did not care for her movement but I'm willing to give her another shot). Not sure what I will do if i end up not liking fukua or those characters because I've been through pretty much all of the cast at this point, so hoping someone ends up clicking with me.

haha man it has been some fucking time, idk why i decided i should update this at 2 in the morning but here we are. I guess last post I was still playing fukua? anyway since then I have:

-picked up val
-dropped val
-picked up painwheel again
-dropped painwheel again
-played para somewhere in here for like a week lol
-played dub/fil/bb again
-started to kind of pick up painwheel again but not really
-dabbled a bit with double/filia/eliza with butchers but not long enough to really have an eliza
-beta came out, picked up fukua
-dropped fukua, picked up painwheel AGAIN
-dropped painwheel AGAIN

and here we are. filia/double still the mainstay, even though i don't REALLY think filia/double is all that amazing (as a DUO, NOT as the shell of a trio) its good enough that I've been using it mostly. aside from a clawmaster tournament I haven't touched big band since beta came out and 1) its nice but also 2) i realize how heavily i leaned on brass assist. Need to improve my approach vs zoners significantly. haven't played much sg in the past week or so but trying to learn fortune now. headless is very hard for me, just from an execution for combos standpoint not even getting into learning the neutral/pressure/setups etc. getting there though. also having a bit of a conflict in that it seems like playing long sets vs good players is the way people improve but I have been trying to keep myself to ft10s at the longest because after that point I stop thinking as much and I dont feel like I'm learning anymore (and to its credit this limiting of set length HAS resulted in me trying to pay more attention and adapt in these relatively shorter sets even if i'm not always successful).

Wanted to make a post cause i went to GU local today. First offline event since NEC 2015. Was really great to see all my NEW ENGLAND BOYS again but also reminded me how much I missed the whole environment of offline. The crowd, the noise, having the person you're fighting being right next to you, it's an experience I didn't realize how much I missed until today. Helped me partially overcome some personal problems I've been dealing with for a while too so overall a really great experience, really fun time.

RR because only 6 entrants, didn't lose to anyone but peanuts. Fortunately we got "grand finals" on stream so I can watch the vods but really I just have a big problem with peacock zoning. I think having brass for basically a year kinda developed some habits for me, or at the very least made my opponents act differently so I developed my habits according to their behavior that now changes with me not using brass, that I am only relatively recently starting to overcome. Robo/Peacock are probably my two biggest personal MU problems atm, definitely should try to lab approaching vs peacock patterns with bomber/extend. Approaching big band as filia is a real pain too, didn't realize how long it had been since I played against a big band since the people I usually play sets with don't play him and I'm really rusty in that matchup. Also need to see what slowbomb stuff I can beat cause that assist is really obnoxious to fight against as well.

On a less-related-to-today note I've been playing fukua on beta again for the past week or so, trying to bring back fukua/double/filia order after finding some good raw tag into filia setups with fukua. Fortune was (is?) fun and all but one thing I really noticed is that me personally, against a lot of people I don't like being forced to go in. Stuff like bella w/ pressure assist that just lets her battle butt + assist for free and be plus, or bomber + assist to be safe, is really obnoxious to have to approach vs as filia, and having a different point char lets me play more zoning/defensively if I'm against a character/team that I don't want to have to run at. Double point w/ band assist gave me that before but the more I play with Filia/Bomber the more I really want double to not be point so I get to actually play Filia with that assist.
