Even at this late hour on Christmas day, news continues to trickle in. Peter Bartholow of Lab Zero Games recently took to NeoGaf to answer a few questions about Skullgirls' future, including the impending PlayStation 4/Vita launches and upcoming DLC character Robo-Fortune.
Peter said:We wanted to have him out by the end of the year, but hit some snags. Mostly with story mode and stage music.
- When's Beowulf hitting?
Robo-Fortune will probably hit with the PS4/Vita release. Her actual character is pretty far along, so it'll be mostly down to stage / story mode. Because that version will need another round of testing, etc. we can afford to split them now.
- When's Robo-Fortune going to be released?
We're hoping by the end of Q1 for PS4/Vita release. They'll be simultaneous.
- What about the PS4 version?
Not ready to talk pricing on the PS4/Vita versions yet, crossbuy, etc. Still not fully decided, but we have a direction we want to go. It's pretty safe to say that it will not be free for existing PS3 owners, though - we're spending a lot of money on the upgrades and additions and we can't just give that away.
- Will there be crossbuy for the PS4/Vita versions?
It'll be native 1080p, but the assets likely won't be upscaled - too much increase in file size / loading times for no noticeable benefit.
- Will the PS4 version be at a higher resolution than the PS3 version?
Robo-Fortune has been worked on in semi-secrecy for the last several months across both Eliza and Beowulf's development, and little more is known about her beyond an assortment of wild concept art, a "detonation mode" gameplay concept that lead designer Mike Z enthusiastically discussed at Salty Cupcakes last year, and several leaked placeholder palettes found in the game files. Beyond these tidbits, fans will have to wait until 2015 for more info.
