Sorry for the short answer, I was busy at the time. gifs are disabled in signatures because we would need to put all sorts of rules about what is and isn't acceptable content, what kind of animations are allowed, what size, etc. in place and then there would need to be someone that goes around and enforces those rules to make sure that people aren't putting massive epileptic-seizure images in without us knowing.

It's not that we're trying to ruin people's fun, but it makes life a lot simpler for the mod team.

I've been on plenty of forums that don't allow that and I honestly love being able to fix a spelling mistake after I post my comment.
 
But who wouldn't want to see this at the bottom of every post I make
