Question in point - how do you deal with bullshit online without controller dropping? Fukua pisses me off beyond belief and I found myself complaining in a stream about Fukua, and then lagged my way into a victory. I feel really, really upset over how negative I was. How do you personally deal with shit that just annoys you on SG? I'd kind of just like to learn how to tolerate it.

because for me that's about everything

I quit the game for a bit and then just go do other stuff.

I let it conquer me and use that fury to win. So I don't stop it I guess. Embrace the hate.

(did that sound too anime 'cause I was going for that)

Yeah okay now I just wish I never made this thread because I ran into like 2 Fukuas and I swear people are just watching for me

I used to get pretty frustrated when I was first starting FGs, but I feel like once you reach a certain skill level you begin to understand why you're getting hit, and the frustration turns into acceptance or a drive to improve. The most frustrating thing is not understanding how you lost. There is definitely still frustration beyond that skill level, but when I see it in other players it usually seems to come from thinking you're better than you actually are/not doing as well as you feel you should have (which are two different ways to say the same thing, basically).

fuck lag though

I pay attention to the battle and I try to think of what went wrong then if i get a rematch, I test some strategies out, see if they work and if they do, kudos to me, I've just learned a new tactic to use against others. It's just turning a negative experience into a positive one.

Unless of course, you're going up against someone really good like Discoshark, then you just feel happy you played with them in the first place. Or not, depending on how you think. lol

I think what were all trying to say (some a bit more abrasively than others) is: you just gotta play! Everyone gets frustrated at times but on the opposite end of frustration is a really rewarding feeling.

I personally do not get salty in SG, maybe because I got all my salt out when playing Mahvel vs Capcom 2 /3. But, when I do get salty I do some quick exercises to clam me down a bit and turn it into hype. I even sometimes do it during a match just to keep the blood flowing.

The state of combat is the state of excitation, a state where serenity can't exist. A true warrior understands that anger isn't something to be suppressed, for it's the essence of combat. Anger is the fuel that feeds the fire that is fighting spirit, but if there's too much fuel then it explodes in your face and defeats you.

@Skymin50 don't suppress your anger, control it. Turn blind rage to focused fury and use it to burn a path to victory.
Does this even work in the context of a video game?

There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
There is no death, there is the Force.

Like push ups and stuff?

You could try seperating yourself from the game. If you look at the characters and moves as if they were, like, pieces on a chess board, you can better visualize situations, why you're losing, why they're winning, what you can do about it, and even things like how they could beat you that they aren't doing. That's what I did. And I'm awesome, so you should totally emulate me.

The Jedi are an unrealistic group of fictional space wizards with laser swords, don't listen to those fools.
There's a reason they say that Bruce Lee has Fists of Fury.

Honestly there is no secret to over coming being salty, frustrated, agitated, flustered, Ect believe it or not DDB's advice of walking away for a minute is very good advice. The reason your running into Fukua is because she's the hot new gal on the street right now but that's neither here nor there. Preventing salty feeling depends on one's personality, I use to get annoyed by Solobella back in vanilla days until I was fed up with losing and literally got gud. Are you willing to accept that Fukua is your kryptonite, step back and evaluate your strategy? It's okay to get mad hell it's good to let it out, bottled emotions fill up and spill out. Similar to Zidiane, I treat the game like a piece of music and the controller as my piano playing each note rhythmically until the piece is finished. I don't know if this helped but danggit I tried good night

I actually don't agree with the no emotion stuff, rather I believe the combat for sport should at least be undertaken with joy and enthusiasm, not anger.

Sith Lord Stuff has a nice ring to it.
So does Darth Stuff.
Hm...

Yeah do that but when you win the match was totally fine and you won 'cause you're good otherwise it's lag.

see now it's foolproof.

When I can't win and I get frustrated I just think about Annie.

Just listen to something you can relax to while playing, that's what I do anyway.

I love fighting, it's my life's blood. I enjoy every second of hand to hand combat in all forms. Some of my greatest moments of happiness have come from within an arena. However, almost everyone who fights for sport understands that you have to clench your fist in order to deliver a punch. Strictly gentle and positive emotions like happiness can't clench that fist, you need something hard and negative like anger to do that.

It's very natural to be angry when fighting someone, both in real life and in a video game. However, it's unhealthy and detrimental to your progress if that anger consumes you and you let it take away from your enjoyment of the fight. In the end fury isn't mutually exclusive from joy, you learn to love both and you need a balance of both to be a successful warrior.

Fury fuels my power and Joy makes it all worthwhile.
My point is that Skymin shouldn't get Salty, he should get Hyped. He should be angry that he's losing, but not hate his opponent. He should turn his rage into motivation for his training and use it to boost his ability in a match, and he should enjoy every second of it. Listen I don't blame you, it's difficult to understand from the outside looking in.

This has been a rant from your unfriendly neighborhood Zen.

First, have fun with the game. If you've ever played something offline with friends, you'll probaby notice it's easier to watch yourself lose or not understand something but still recognize that you're having fun anyways because it's you and your friends having a good time. You're just less focused on the competitive/dominance aspect that normally drives online play. Enjoying the game is like the number one fuel to keep going no matter how obnoxious something actually becomes, and if it ever stops being fun, think about taking a break until it's fun again or changing the circumstances to make it fun again. Switching characters, formats, playing friends offline instead of online, playing drunk, whatever works to make it something you really want to do.

Second, when something's giving you a problem that you feel you need to improve to beat, think about the game as objectively and detached as possible. When you get mad, all you can be is mad and it doesn't help you get to the root of the problem. When you stay calm, determined, and focused on solving a puzzle, you at least set yourself up for succeeding eventually, even if it's not as fast as you might like.

Third, be patient and confident. You really need to believe that those two things I mentioned above will work. Having gone through those processes repeatedly so that you have experience with these methods/ideas helps a lot, but when you're starting out just having a lot of patience and confidence is kind of a blind step. Do it enough, and it'll be like second nature. You'll feel better about your successes, feel more confident in tackling your failures, and most importantly, enjoy the experiences the game throws at you. Mostly. <3
