Important newbie questions

I am semi-new to Skullgirls and I have two burning questions:
1. (How) Can I add friends by who I play in online versus?
2. Does mashing buttons/directions while getting comboed actually reduce recovery time? I don't mean by accidentally getting in a quick punch in between openers, but can you actually affect the opponent's combo counter by any input?

2. If the opponent staggers you, quickly inputing "fwd -> back -> fwd -> back -> fwd -> back" reduces the stagger time by 15 frames.

Shift-tab to open up Steam community, select "view players", then "recent games".

I don't seem to have that option...see uploaded screencap. Where is "view players"?
