While I know why all the changes happen (specially since it was just concept art in the first place) I will admit, the golden fish cannon was pretty BA looking and will miss it. Oh well =3
 
I'm not a big fan of phoebe's new face. Personally I preferred the rounder face of the original art.

Baozhai I think I'm ok with. After seeing Qadira's changes move I didn't mind as much, though I do wish she looked a bit older in the new version.

Also, isn't it a bit odd that Phoebe's art has shading and highlights while ginseng and Baozhai are totally flat? I wonder why they are presented like that.
 
I would love to see if any of Baozhai's animations is something like this.

RE Baozhai and asymmetrical sprites- since Lab Zero's animation techniques involves having items in layers, couldn't they just have "single shoulder cannon" be "foreground-1" when hidden by her face and "foreground+1" when revealed?

Art is incredibly subjective, and it's your right to dislike something. I don't like a lot of things that other people would consider good art! I think Dragon's Crown is a really boring looking game!

Doable. Thinking about it now, that would require separate tracking for not only the attach point of her cannon but also tracking the shooty end of it for projectile animation. Too much work versus just hiding the transition with a smear.
Asymmetry isn't the problem; we dealt with that with a ton of characters on SG. Rather, when the degree of it is really large, like Zebei, then we run into issues of trying to mask the transition.
 
I saw you guys were looking for 2d animators, really wishing you good luck on that, wishing i could help myself but my artistic skills are way too mediocre, i mean i only spent one year in art school and I never did animation, like at all.

Also on a sidenote i think Baozhai's redesign is really growing on me now, she means business and looks pretty badass, like a pirate should.
On a sidenote i was wondering would her eyepatch be just flipped down Sagat-style or are you planning to redraw her face each time she faces the opposite way. I say that because i remember Jump Ultimate Stars had this with Sanji's face (then it was DS quality sprites so i imagine the amount of work isn't the same )

Proto-Baozhai looks like a freewheeling pirate. Updated version seems more of a no-nonsense military captain. I'm interested in seeing how this plays in with other character interactions.

Updated Phoebe has a goofy look on her face that I find very endearing.

I so called it (well, kind of, I said Guncannon instead of Gundam, but it's still in the tags).

Oh, she has 4 cannons now, can use 2 cannons for self-propulsion, has a harpoon and pistol, and a chain hook?

I wouldn't reach the conclusion that that's just not Ahad Fun Drawing instead of actual game mechanics juuust yet.

Though I'd imagine ALL THE CANNONS would show up as a super.

True, we could get an update with another redesign. I want to lean more on potential upgrades.

They're likely sketches from in-development. Mariel was referencing similar looking ones when she was animating one of Baozhai's cannon attacks a week or so ago.

She's definitely getting a barrage attack (it might even be friendly-fire according to the notes), and I'd be surprised if she wasn't getting some version of that dash too.

Not odd at all. The entire team probably worked on model sheets at various times last year, so some variations in approach would be expected. The model sheets are primarily a guide for the animators, so as long as the proportions and overall agreed upon design are there, it works for them.
 
Really loving those sketches!! A big fan of the dash attack with the cannons and the one with the grab. Baozhai really has quite the personnality 'w'

With how she's turning out i'm feeling she might be in my team quite often tbh. Being based on Ching Shih makes you do that -w-

I would assume that skull on Bao's chest from Ahad's sketches didn't make the cut? That's too bad =[
 
So, how long until we hit the full VO goal? I know last update said 3k i wonder where we are now though.
 
Subtract the last IGG total from the current IGG total, add the difference to the funding total. Not perfect, since you don't know what the difference in the backer total is but it moves slower than the IGG total anyway as things currently stand, but it gives you a good enough estimate since it's the minimum of where we are.
 
We're at the point where that Stretch Goal just looks like a massive tease right now. The current gap is only a little over $2k, and we've seen post-campaign get way more than that in a week, especially when a big announcement drops. I think they made around $6k on the week that they first showed the mockups of Physical version (and that was after the $1000-tier closed too).

So yeah, I kinda feel like we're just waiting on LabZero to pull the trigger with something at this point. Full VO could get funded practically at any time in the coming days.

It's almost nostalgic. Like, this is something you'd have heard in the SNES or PS1 era of RPGs.

Yeah, most of the music in the prototype made me feel that way as well, like it was modern SNES music.
 
Well, the man did make the music for Secret of Mana, which was indeed Snes stuff.. And I'll admit, a lot of the music almost stems from the same tones and beats. Like, I'm sure at some point we might hear a version of Nuclear Fusion or the more known Meridian Dance (it's been a while since I've played the Proto, so I can't remember if there was one that sounded simular.. I should really play it again!)
 
Yeah, this track is ridiculously good. Loving these Musical Mondays. Not sure who thought it up but good work! ^,^

Man Kikuta really knows his stuff with making awesome music, really digging the feel that new music has. As everyone said it really feels like a song from a 90s era rpg and i love it
 
I'm actually pretty bummed about Baozhai's redesign. The old canon was so striking and really sold me on the character. I understand why it needed to be changed and the new design is pretty cool in it's own regard, but I'm really going to miss the shachihoko cannon.
