I just figured out a 9.5k combo for Squigly and Filia, but it uses three supers. Is that expensive?

This is 1.00 ratio damage right? If so, I'd personally have to say it's a bit more on the expensive side, but only a little. Depends on how long/hard the combo is.

Yeah, 1.00 ratio damage. I can replace the ender super with just a special, and the combo becomes roughly 8.3k

I'm very consistent with the combo, so it's "easy" for me.

i should probably write the combo down huh
Start with Squigly
c.LK c.MK s.HPHP qcf MK s.MK s.HK
j.MK(2) j.HP j.LP j.MK(2) j.HK Divekick MK

qcf HK xx Opera LK+HK xx DHC Filia Gregor Samson >> Fenrir Drive

Sev can do 9.6k with Filia in the corner for 1 Meter
Usual Meterless BnBs deal 7-7.5k, +2 Supers being 2-3k = 9-10k for 2 Bars
So yes, expensive

Char Specific questions are better placed in the Char Specific Subboards (this is really just a Squigly Combo with a DHC at the end)
Even if you dislike that, at least post it in the Gameplay Section :P

Ah, sorry guys, wasn't sure where this would go since there were multiple "discussion" sections...

I'm just starting off here and I'm pretty proud of myself for discovering this but it sounds like I have a loong way to go

It really mostly depends on your game situation. As far as in general though, when compared to the rest of the cast, it is about average damage, maybe slightly below average.
Most near optimized bnbs do between 7.5-10k for 1 meter.

But as I said, this is just in general.

It's worth it to use 5 meters to kill the last character on your opponents team, if that what it takes.

To put it blunty: there are way worse ways you could be using your meter. Though the biggest problem with above 1 meter combos is that they are situational... You won't always have that meter to do that combo... And that has to be addressed.

:)

My Painwheel 2 Meter DHC does like 11.5k... That's hella optimized though.

I would aim for just over 10k with 3 meters. 11k kills in 2v3 outright.

In the eyes of a semi-beginner player like myself, I would say that combo is not bad. I can't weigh in on whether it's expensive for the meter burn, but I do notice that all three of your meters are being spent at the very end. This means you can VERY easily vary that combo from being completely meterless to spending all 3 meters, and you won't have to make that decision until you're almost done with the combo itself. To me, that in itself has worth.... for example, you can make it meterless if you know those 3 supers won't kill, or you can opt to burn just enough meter for your next combo to kill.

In case anyone would like to see how it looks, here:

As Isavulpes said, sev can do over 9k for 1 meter. The thing is, that's sev - a guy that made top 8 at this year's EVO. If your combo is a combo that is reasonably practical, works on all (or at least most) of the cast, and above all it's one that you can perform consistently in real matches then I would still be quite proud of it.

As long as you have another decent BnB for when you have 0-1 meter, then with this combo you have the tools to defeat 90% of the people that play SG if your footsies/mindgames/matchup knowledge/etc. are on point.

Agreed. If it works, it works. I do pretty well with a smaller combo that has good reset points, and it does nowhere near 9k. It is a style that works for me. So to reitterate, if it works for you, keep it up.

Now, if you are just intellectually interested in extreme combo optimization, ignore me.

I'm under the impression with fighters like this that big combos are important, as opposed to smaller combos with resets like yours, Spencer. Should I get this assumption out of my head?

It depends on your playstyle for sure.
I prefer to hit a combo and reset at say 6k damage. As a solo PW, it is really beneficial to staying "in their face" without risking getting put back into neutral game by burst. There are no doubt others who would disagree, but I would say the big combos aren't necessarily a more viable way to play.

The original version of Skullgirls on consoles put emphasis on long combos.
As of late, though, you can either go with long combos, or go for a reset-heavy game. The game rewards both fairly well.

As for your combo, it really depends on the situation - If the opponent has less than 9.5k HP and you have the meter, by all means, go for it.

I would say its worth it depending on the situation.

It depends on if it kills a character, the next incoming character, how much you meter your opponent and how much meter you would be left with.

If you are removing a large threat (opponent dependent) then probably.

If you aren't even going to end up killing a character, probably not.

If you are going to end up killing the character, but leaves you with no meter and your opponent with 2-3 bars of their own, then honestly you could still be on even ground.

Its a big question really, good tool to have certainly.

*innocent whistling* (This combo is out of date due to Squigly damage buffs and Updo changes... probably does a bit more now)

But your damage isn't bad at all, considering that you're leaving a lot of damage on the table. With a bit of optimization, breaking 10k with your combo shouldn't be hard.
