Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

Wait, there are jojos that are worse than Jonathon? I thought he was bland as fuck.
Also, another reason I don't like part 3 that much so far: Setting. The first two parts had pretty unique settings for a shonen, I.E. not japan or a fictional world based on japan. I guess that was too radical for their japanese audience, to have cool stuff happen in other countries. And judging by the names of the other jojo's, it's staying in japan.

I'm saying that young Joseph was great and old Joseph sucks.

Josuke is all japan
Giorno is all italy
Jolyne is all Florida
Johnny is all across america
and other josuke is probably all japan as well, it's not finished yet after all

Thank god the joestar line doesn't stay in japan. I saw that Josuke was after Jotaro and I was just like "fuck"
Although I really hope their last name goes back to joestar. I don't know why, but it bugs the fuck out of me that it's Jotaro Kujo instead of Joestar. But I guess this means no other part is going to take place in a ton of different countries like Joseph.

Haven't been watching the stardust crusaders opening and I won't until it's finished because of fucking battle tendency's spoiler opening. I'll never be able to trust a theme song again.

That annoyed me, I was only familiar with Stardust Crusaders at the time due to the fighting game & OVA. Unlike Battle Tendency's opening, the only things spoiled is the team & they travel.
 
Jonathan is your generic hero, he's there more to introduce an idea than anything else.

I think joseph is an awesome shounen protagonist. He's determined, flawed and can make the standard abilities pretty unique! After all, he's a trickster, a bastard and is full aware of it. and that makes the battles he faces on part 2 amazing to see.

Jotaro annoys me to no end for the same reason Squall (FF8) annoys me. That eternal bad mood as a sad excuse to look cool only works in poker and videogames. Kakyoin isn't that better

Old Joseph is still a cretin, but forced to be the "wise man" of the team, that's why he lost his shine.

From part 3 protagonists, Polnareff is the most likable. and a good comic relief too!

Part 4 got a decent ammount of Slice-of-life/stand-powered soap opera moments, that help to develop the characters. I really like josuke. in the final parts of the manga he's what jotaro should've been all along. Okuyasu is polnareff v2.0 and then there's koichi... Damn, that kid had a lot of spotlight and deserved it. it's the perfect sidekick and the opposite of josuke and okuyasu.

and that's the ones i've read...

I'm not but holy shit, it's old as dirt and it's in so many circles of pop culture.
 
Yes, it's old. But no one outside of Japan was able to read it until the 2000s, and even then that was mainly Italy. The only way anyone can know about this series is by playing the Capcom game, but that was aimed towards a smaller audience (those who played fighting games) and wasn't really mainstream outside of Japan

Or you could read it on a manga site. I mean I went up to part 7 that way (gonna give part 8 some time before I jump in more, though I really liked what I saw.)

Also, for whoever was disappointed part 3 took place in Japan, don't worry, Jotaro visits more countries than Joseph ever did.
 
Part 7 is definitely my favorite part overall, but I am excited to see how all of these characters will look if/when they are finally animated. I'm particularly excited to see Iggy and the D'Arby brothers (part 3), Rohan and Mikitaka (part 4), and Diavolo (part 5).

Honestly part 7 sounded awful on paper to me, but when I read it I thought it was incredible. Some of the most fun I've had with the series. Johnny and Gyro were so likable and fun (and at sometimes super dumb in a charming way...mainly their "jokes") and it had quite a few other characters I liked a lot.

Omg, omg there are people new to Jojo! Seriously, I sometimes forget that there are people completely new to anything 80's or 90's related. No offense though, I love you all, but watching two episodes is way too early to dislike a whole part.

Part 3 is like not even 3% Japan, it has more different locations than any part in Jojos, and with the pacing in the anime it looks like we're going to see most or all of them, which is great. Part 3, IIRC (I don't remember how big is part 7), is still the biggest Jojo arc. Only part 4 is all Japan and that is one of my favorite parts, great Jojo (similar, albeit in a different vein, to Joseph), awesome story and characters.... and one of the greatest Jojo antagonists!

At the time Stands were much more creative than inner chi, which most manga had at the time, but there are connections to hamon/stand (like in ep.1, which they made more clear), I see stands as an insanely fast evolution of hamon that affects even people without training. Stands remain a mystery until later parts and are somewhat still a mystery now.

Technically stands are present in Jojo's universe even before part 1, people just didn't entered in contact with the B&A.

I'll give you Jotaro, he's the weakest link of the group in part 3 as far as characterization goes in my opinion. Going off of just the old OVA, Kakyoin was a lot more likeable than Jotaro although I cant get into details.

I dont really remember Old Joseph standing out that much.

I seriously don't care. Star Wars and Citizen Kane are both old as fuck but it still pisses me off that people throw around major spoilers for them everywhere like it doesn't matter.

It just bugged the hell out of me that they went into a lot of detail describing how hamon works and giving it pros and cons, and then stands come in and they're magic or something and they have super powers but lack any weakness unless you count sharing damage with you. They had dedicated so much time to making hamon believable and giving it all these situations where the characters had to deal without it and rely on their own cunning like when they can't breath or when their blood isn't circulating properly, and it made it so that the characters never seemed goku-style overpowered, but stands don't seem to follow with that.

If i'm not mistaken from episode one, didn't they establish stands also required breathing to work?

After this, Joseph says the Stand will weaken without breathing. The breathing seems to make them stronger, but doesn't look like they depend on breathing to be there.

I thought I recall Avdol mentioning it & it came off more as Jatato breaking loose before he was weakened enough for it to effect Star Platinum.
EDIT: Oh, okay. Still just trying to establish some of the logic of stands for Horseman
 
I can't talk too much about stands given some of you aren't far into the series, in order to not spoil you guys.

As far as weakness, while stands are much more powerful (again, imagine a sudden exponential increase of hamon influenced by one's personality) they do have weakness based on the limitations of their abilities, and many of the stand battles work around on figuring out what those weaknesses are. Kinda like Basilisk if you ever watched (which is great btw).

Asides sharing damage stands also have different general weaknesses such as range or where they can be summoned, etc.

Ack! I want to talk but I can't!!! lol! xP

Anyways guys, enjoy Jojo, you're gonna have a blast! And the coolest thing is, you have lots of different characters, settings and plots to get attached to. Everybody has a different favorite part and loves everything in general. It's bizzare! xD

Oh well. I was expecting it to be Dio's "Egypt (The Chains Are On)". Though, we will most likely get new Openings and Endings if this will be a 2-3 cour show.

If hamon works on the mind control buds, why doesn't he use that initially? If it would hurt them then do that double hamon thing they did with Suzie Q in part 2.
Kind of confused as to why they don't just give holly proper stand training so that she can control it, do they just assume she's too weak to ever be able to wield it properly?
 
it's because Holly has no aggression or desire to fight in her, meaning that her stand is too powerful for her to control and detrimental to her health

The double Hamon thing would require two Hamon users, and I doubt Joseph worked on his Hamon after beating Cars 50 years ago.
