So let me get this straight. SG had a balanced roster of 8 characters on release and people complained that the roster was too small. On the other hand, KI only has 6 characters on launch and they call it its greatest strength.

The hypocrisy baffles me. Fuck the FGC. KI only gets the recognition because they slapped on the title and everyone immediately sucks it's cock.

Skullgirls is a team based fighter with assists. Those type of fighting games need more characters.

The difference between SG and KI is one is largely a team fighter and the other is a 1 vs 1 fighter. People were quick to compare SG 8 character roster to other team fighting games with bloated rosters of 30-50+ like the Marvel series.

While KI in contrast being a 1 vs 1 fighter gets a much easier pass since the 'acceptable minimum' for a modern 1 vs 1 fighter is roughly 12-13 character. The assurance that more characters are coming in the near horizon helps heal that issue.

That and the KI/SG aesthetic presentation are completely different from each other. Players from the SF/Marvel/MK background are more likely to enjoy the KI III aesthetic more then the SG aesthetic that suffers from the "anime fighter stigma" by the FGC.

Not really surprised an article like that was made with a straight face.

You're right. We dont even know if the game is competitive worthy yet. We'll see whether it succeeds or crashes.

How legit are the mixups and throws? Everyone on video is still doing week 1 must push buttons playstyle so it's all running facefirst into reversals and unsafe stuff, but I'm interested to see how much someone that will turtle and knows the overhead animations can slow down the game.

Question to people who already played the new KI - how smooth are the controls? Is it smooth like SG and Japanese fighters or is it stiff like Injustice?
 
Controls are pretty damn smooth. Very easy mode to dive into once you are given a quick rundown of how the combo system and breakers actually work.(which isn't hard at all)

However, most of my displeasure comes from the new godawful D-Pad and not the game itself. Im constantly wrestling with it in critical moments and losing out of combo damage or pressure. Which frustrates me very much.

I play Sadira mainly, but also Orchid and Thunder. Orchid is probably my best on this godawful pad, thanks to Rekka mix ups for days. Getting a stick asap.
 
Feels like it is, til you actually play with it. Then it lets you down. Hard.

Where the 360 pad gave me wrong or unintended inputs, this one straight up refuses to give any input unless you REALLY force it. Been playing console games since I was 3. Im 26. And this is the first time a controller has ever made my thumb sore after playing a short session. Ugh.
 
Anyone interested in playing KI snes online?

I'm not getting an Xbone, but would like to scratch that KI itch, and I absolutely love the original game.

I think people quickly jumped the gun to blame (Torches and Pitchforks Mob seized this chance for negative publicity) Microsoft immediately on this situation. You can tell just from one glance at the Ehubs and other site comments on this topic.

The 'DRM' issue was current/next gen console related matter, not simply the XBO. The fault for the interrupted match was on the TO as explained on link.

Lol loving the new "Jail" system they have setup for ragequitters in the upcoming patch. Maybe Skullgirls can get on this for the future?

After reading about it, I don't think the jail system seems well thought-out.

A new-ish player gets a rash of games against RQers? Well, since there's no way to see who actually caused the DC, the innocent newbie goes to Jail. If this happens a few times and the Jail period increases, random players can just get screwed over either by bad luck or trolls who DC against players that have a small number of games.

Spinal gets more utility when having skulls
Teleport is better with skulls
Spinal still has foot slide
Divekick is similar to Rufus from SF4
Shadow move skull steals Instinct Meter and gives it to Spinal
Spectral doubles are basically 'Easy Manuals'
His Instinct gives him automatic skulls that stay until instinct is over
Spinal's story is about why he still exists

Spinal's outfit is all spoils of war
HE CAN EXTEND THE LENGTH OF HIS INSTINCT
Expert spinals will suck you dry for all of your resources
You can get 3 curses in, and use three instincts in a ultra combo as long as you dont get hit
 
Wow, visually the new Spinal kinda puts the Glacius redesign to shame. Even Spinal's get-up animation is neat. You'd think an alien with a semi-liquid body would have just as many clever animations, but it didn't really turn out that way.

Not that I'm hating on the new Glacius, but the new Spinal definitely stands out as one of the better redesigns they've done so far. Looking forward to Fulgore!
 
I'm not sure the Jail system's going to work out. I mean, it seems like it's simply a reworked version of ragequitter hell. Plus, there's a hard cap on the amount of time one can stay in jail, even if you constantly ragequit. And if you end up encountering a long string of ragequitters early on, you could end up in Jail on trumped-up charges.

Meld will now greet you each time you start up Killer Instinct to highlight any updates or news!

Rage Quit Solution Implemented

Introducing a novel solution to rage quitters in Ranked Match: JAIL

- The first time your disconnect percentage goes above 15 percent you go to JAIL

- A 10 match minimum is required

- JAIL lasts for 24 hours. During this time you can only be matched against other JAIL members

- Each time you go to JAIL the amount of time increases by 24 hours (capped at 5 days – 120 hrs)

- While in JAIL your profile icon will be automatically changed to a custom JAIL icon to let you know you are in JAIL

- When your JAIL time is up, you go back into the public again (even if your disconnect percentage is back over 15%)

- However, when back in public, if you disconnect and you are still above 15 percentage you go directly back to JAIL

- For any match that sends you to JAIL, player will take a loss

Practice Mode Position Reset Added

Players now have the ability to quickly reset their character positioning by using the commands below while in PRACTICE MODE:

- View + Menu – Reset both characters back to the starting locations in the center of the stage

- View + Menu + Left – Reset both characters on the left side of the stage

- View + Menu + Right – Reset both characters on the right side of the stage

Leaderboards Quick Search

Players will now be able to press “Y” to see the top rank of that specific leaderboard.

Ultra Combo Audio Distortion

Fixed an issue where users would hear audio distortion during ULTRA COMBO sequences.

Training Mode General Fixes

Several issues have been fixed to make sure that the AI will react accurately towards the settings of the player.

Matchmaking for Ranked Matches

Ranked search will now properly search for the ranks nearest to your rank, then slowly expand its ranked search range over 1 min.

Exhibition Invite Fix

Fixed an issue when you tried to join an invite and it would fail because it was waiting for you to leave your previous session.

Player Rank Display Update

Fix spelling errors in “Journeyman” and “Baller” Rank Title graphics.

Hosting Bug Fixed

Fixed hosting an Exhibition Match while player rank was above 20.

Ranking Up / Down Display Fix

Potential Rank Up / Rank Down messages will no longer stay on the screen if the opponent disconnects during the match.
