Konami/Console Updates you will want to read

The way I see it, if netplay stops working after it's delisted, then essentially the game I paid for is having functionality removed AFTER I PAID FOR IT. If this happened to Street Fighter there would be blood in the streets.

FAQ
Wow Vad you're member number 1! Heh.

Oh hey, I can answer those questions:

Will the steam version be affected?
Nope!
[edit] There won't be updates to it - besides beta changes->real game - until this stuff is dealt with, but that's all.

Will game re-certification cut into IGG funds?
No, thankfully certification submissions are free on both consoles now. I THINK.
Also the artists are still working on Big Band cleanup / Eliza animation, it's just Ravidrath and myself that are doing this junk.

Does this mean that Lab Zero can use the Konami Code now?
Yes. But do we really want to anymore?
If anything I'd use it upside-down and backward (Start Select A B R L R L U U D D, the Lab Zero code?) or make it delete your game or something.

Does this mean that Lab Zero will be less likely to look at DLC/regular-update models for future games?
No, at least not for me. I am thrilled with both of those choices because it gives us an unprecedented* ability to communicate with the fans and improve the game to their liking (or disliking, heh). It certainly DOES mean looking more carefully at who we join up with to do business in the future.

You missed a bit of news, though admittedly it came later on in the stream:
The 10th-palette code for PC is IDSPISPOPD.

* Try spelling that with very little sleep. Took me four tries.

@the people who asked

No, this doesn't mean console is getting abandoned. Even if we can't get a build approved in time to stop it from disappearing over the holidays, it'll be back after that when we CAN get a build approved.
Consoles are still getting Squigly/Big Band/etc, in some form.

Actually, with the screencap you used, it was in Dragonball, the one before DBZ, so it was one wish.

Tell you what: i -AM- dumb.

because even knowing the level of BS that konami is making over the last years (i'm looking at SH collection, just for a start) i'll STILL give them money whem MGS5 come out on PC.

Even my own capcom-ban (don't buy anything they launch on day-one, and wait for at least 40% discount if it isn't on the top of the wishlist ) is working better.

I am deeply sorry for this, but my fan side is stronger than my rational side when it comes to certain games/series.

But the whole thing makes me think. THIS, for me, shows the obvious differences of people in a gaming company that MAKES games and KNOW how to make gamers happy and stupid whiteheads that have NO F*&$ING IDEA OF HOW GAMES (their public and the business environment) WORK!

Thank all gods tham MikeZ and Alex Ahad are both game developers and the company aces right now.

Tell you what: WE NEED MORE MIKES AND ALEXS OUT THERE! To guide the companies to the right path again!

Seems to me like it's the other way around.

It's not like the programmers or writers working on MG5 have anything to do with this.

I mean, to flip the situation, how would you feel if people started announcing they were going to boycott Skullgirls because of something completely unrelated to the game that some random Lab Zero or Autumn Games employee did?

this. this. this. this. all of this.

trust me, killing all the good mega man games in development, DLC fiasco in sfxt, forced obsolescence in SF4 for at least 3 times and letting UMvC3 to die without making any effort to fix it one last time wasn't something a "random" employee did it, and there are just too many BS to support it so eagerly.

Is there any other way to make a company understand that they're doing it wrong than not giving them money? these guys ade blind and deaf to most claims that things are wrong!

and THAT's why we need peple that like videogames at the helm of game developing companies

Well, the issue with Capcom is that most of their old talent left, and they simply aren't making good games anymore.

You can't support them because there's nothing to support, not much they produce is worth owning.

If some prodigy developer suddenly showed up at Capcom and started making a genuinely good game, I would instead throw money at that to reward them for getting back on track with some quality game design fundamentals.

The guys at Lab Zero are like Saya-Jins: what doesn't kill them makes them stronger.

I am now even more determined to support this game, in any way.

European players : see you for Skullbats tonight!!

If i continue this discussion here, it'll go too offtopic. but let's just say that a good game poorly handled (like heavily dismembered in DLCs) doesn't grants them the right to get 200 bucks from me

EDIT: to not post it again, i replaced it with a newest one
Now we need a Holes edit for the whole "gypsy curse" thing.

I would crack a joke that people are already doing this right now, but I'm done being upset about this crap. Boycotting Konami games and harassing them isn't gonna solve anything. Now that I've had time to go back and think about this situation, I feel like Lab Zero and us as a fanbase have been through much worse than this. Having the game (possibly) disappear for awhile
and non US/JP regions loosing there copies pales in comparison to when Reverge got laid off. We've been through worse, and this is just another bump on this very craggy hill. Will people spread misinformation and lies about this situation? Of course! But how is that any different from any other day? I'm through letting this keep me down, and I'm ready to join you guys in looking at the positives.

We need more comparisons to Dragonball.

Outside of stream-monsters, I'm pretty sure no one has ever established or called for a boycott of Skullgirls though.

Ouch. Console players have my condolences.

Stay strong guys, I'm sure we can survive this. This game raised almost $830,000 earlier this year. If we could do that, we can certainly handle this bullshit.

this is nothing compared to the stuff Lab 0 has endured. we'll get through this.

God damnit now I have to go watch Toy Story.
you say it like it's a bad thing.~ >w>

Updated the OP with Mike's answers (Thanks Mike!) and Ravidrath's post on NeoGaf.

Also, using the Konami code to remove your savestate and reset all settings could be kinda useful, and pretty apt as well.

Bitter sweet mentality, they shouldn't be used to this but they are. Being hardened by their trials is the only good thing to say about it.

Lab Zero = Goku
Konami = Frieza
XBLA/PSN = Namek

Another bit of info from Ravidrath, for those who aren't reading the GAF thread:
It's worth noting that the XBLA version may end up getting Squigly first now, because the XBLA transition will probably end up being smoother.

The reason there might be any downtime on the XBLA version is because Konami says we can't have their logos on the game for any period of time after 12/31. The problem is that it may not be possible for us to patch the logos until the transition happens on 1/1. We're investigating that with MarvelousAQL now and will submit the patch as soon as possible. But even if we can submit it now, with the holidays and certification testing, etc. it may not make it in time.

We will, there's no doubt about that.

It's just a matter of how quickly we can do it and how much store downtime there will be while we make this transition. I'm hoping it'll be minimal on the US side, but am a little concerned about other territories.

As helpful as Sony has been, they're even a little foggy on this stuff since we are doing something that has happened, like... twice ever before.

They do something shady and you want to reward them with sex? Eh, have it your way...

No he's saying if they got laid more often they wouldn't be doing this shady shit in the first place.
exactly

Word is spreading fast, even the FGC who checks out Eventhubs has become upset to a point.

Now if we could get some of the Major Fighting Game People to Bring up the wrongness of the trick Konami stated to pull to their fans the rage of the internet could spread.

Konami, Capcom and other like minded game companies really need to get their heads out of their rears on business practices like this.

The thing is, the worst case scenario is that the console versions and their patch only return at the beginning of next year, but if Konami was still around we'd probably have to wait later than that for the patch anyway, the only issue is satisfying like 5 people who are devoted enough to persist with the lack of console players and still play SDE because of it.

It's also about us getting the patch out early...remember it's been ready for 2 months (aside from this new publisher-communication-ID business), the only reason it's not out YET is because we had to submit it through Konami who refused to do that.

Well, at least we are getting more information about this. And seriously, Mike and everyone else at Lab Zero, you guys are still working as hard as possible and the fastest you can no matter what obstacles you find in your way. And that's wonderful and I'm sure everyone here is thankful to know that you won't give up easily.

I still won't go in a Konami-boycott mode, mainly because the last thing I purchased that had to be with Konami was Skullgirls (and because they were the publisher back then, not because "lol Konami game", SG didn't need that to get my attention)... and because we can go be mad at this, but we are responsible adults in this place, so we take it like adults. We move on... and because you don't know when you will break your promise - I did it with my no-more-Capcom-games oath when I purchased Ducktales Remastered... though technically the remake is more Wayforward's. xD

Personally, I'm not happy with Konami because of the Silent Hill HD collection travesty, releasing SH Downpour and ZoE HD Collection with framerate problems, taking a long time to patch those framerate issues and now this. The problem is that I'm not sure about boycotting Konami, because I was more than happy to preorder MGR: Revengeance and I'm also interested in MGS5 and Castlevania Lords of Shadow 1 and 2 and MGS5.

the thing we need to remember is that like many companies, Konami has many branches that take care of various things. You can't blame the company as a whole for something like this. For all we know, the guys behind this business decision are just a very small portion of the work force.

Is this the same small portion that blacklist sites that give them bad reviews and attempted to milk several franchises only to kill them off or run them into the ground with an absence of marketing and an abundance of retarded publishing decisions. Even their E3 stuff is pathetic (outside of the pure comedy gold of Tak Fuji). If anything, I'll bet the only reason Skullgirls has survived is that the team haven't relied on Konami for anything other than releasing the game and, I'd say mandatory stuff like patch checks but evidently that's not bode well for L0 when they've gone through with it at all.
