It's the thing I wanted to do last year, but couldn't... and now I can!

Memories of Saturday Night Salt occupy a warm & fuzzy place in my heart, and this year at Combo Breaker 2015, @Elda Taluda and I will finally be able to bring the hype LIVE! We're set to stream on @BGCallisto 's channel at 10pm on Saturday, May 23rd. Hell, I'm excited!

Special thanks to @thehadou for giving us the time and platform to have this community-based stream!

THE DEAL
  • We've got 5 exhibition matches!
  • We've got a 3v3 team tournament!
  • We've got commentary, pre and post match interviews, and fighter introductions!

If I can coordinate it with the right parties and it's doable, commentary & playlist music will be piped though the PA for the audience. Yeaaaaahhhhhh.
Can tell you from experience that this ends up being a bit more awkward in practice than it looks on paper. Just something to look out for if you end up trying.

Noted. If it's anything like music, a lot of that awkward feeling has to do with the sound levels relative to the room noise/game noise. If we can't achieve a satisfactory mix on the audio, we likely just won't do the PA thing.

More that the people playing can hear your match analysis, which can have an impact on their play, at which point the knowledge of that can have an impact on your commentary. I doubt it will be quite as weird as it was at Evo, because I imagine you probably won't be standing over the players' shoulders like we were. Nothing like having to tell both the crowd and the viewers at home why someone's losing while literally standing over them so they can hear it.

You should be fine sound-wise, though. You'll be relying on headsets rather than monitors (and streamer headsets have lots of noise canceling so you'll barely hear yourself over the PA), so the only thing you might have to worry about is some faint echo in the mic pickup, if anything.

Ah, that awkward. Ok.

Couldn't that work super well given the context of salty runbacks, though? Like, a guy is getting worked over, and he hears us talking about it in the background? I feel like that's legitimately funny.

Well, I've never done it, and it definitely seems like the people that have seen it think it's not so good :/ Oh, well, guess it's better off left out. C'est la vie.

I often listen in on the commentary when playing and can't help but laugh at times >w<

This is gonna be good.

FWIW as a player I've had good personal experiences with PA commentary. I've played in SF4 tournies where having it fired me up. Of course, it also made me play like more of a dick (taunting, etc.) when I was winning but somebody's gotta be the heel.

Looking at it from the commentator's perspective is a different story, but this isn't the main tournament or anything so if it amps up the entertainment value, go for it.

It doesn't help the play, I will say that.
:(

I'm just gonna do it. It's not for the main tournament, so I don't think anyone's gonna get bent out of shape about it.

Yeah it sounds like fun. Not 100% sure so I'll ask, but this is after the tournament has ended right?

It's after the Saturday portion has ended. If the top 8 happens on Sunday, we'll just make sure not to have any of those tourney matches play out for this event.

House mic seems a lot better when its not trying to be normal 'two commentators for a stream' commentary. And 'two commentators for a stream' commentary is a lot better when they aren't the house mic.

Like the two serve two different purposes so as long as they don't mix up.

No foreshadowing or suggestions. You want to be reactionary and observant.

Not going to lie i want in on that mic

Damn I'm going back and forth on this, lol. I'm definitely not gonna try to do Rockefeller's thing, that's not really what I do. If that style is really the only way most people think out-loud commentary is good, though, I'll just cut that part. Better to do me the best I can than try and imitate somebody else poorly.

Let me touch that house mic whaaaaat the fuck.

He made me look uncool in front of tens of people I didn't know
Plus my friend uploaded the shame to Facebook when we got back home from EVO last year

It's going down

@SonicFox5000, you threw out some fightin' words on stream at Winter Brawl, and fighting' is just what I want to see! What say you to a definitive resolution to this rivalry? FT10 on stream vs @dekillsage?
b-but he's my mans ;_;
last time we fought on stream, we did a FT100. we went 50-50 on the dot.

Okay, but who got 100 first?

@POS Industries vs @Night Phyre
Because someone is probably salty about not being Beowulf and someone is smug about being it and someone is not playing but watching from the corner and someone else is snooping on that guy while someone else has just uncloaked and is about to backstab before someone else spy checks him, but not before someone else hustles rocks into him just as someone else decides to file that TPS report while someone else sends a stern email about covers just as someone else tunes in to watch someone who is probably salty about not being Beowulf fight someone who is being smug about it while someone else is not play....
HALP CAN'T STOP.

Uh

Excuse me

smug?

I would much prefer you use, "self-satisfied," or, "arrogant."

Thank you

I was considering this with Elky Taluda and Elda Dori commentating, but Clawsome wants that Evo runback and I ain't about to duck on that. Plus all four of us are going to get our time in the stream spotlight over the weekend and I'm happy to help Clawsome get some shine, too.

Plus I'm all about that free win, you know?
