Before I started SG a few days ago, I was playing a lot of Monster Hunter. I have got abour 300hrs in 3U and some in MHFU. I achieved my personal goals, so I put the game away, but I will pick it up one day again, for sure. Are there any fellow hunters, taking a break?

Im reporting in.
I believe HR 70, kinda stopped cause college firewall won't allow for console multiplayer which is BS
But I was also stumped because Im working on my speedrun gunning sets

I should have access to online tomorrow! I believe my NID is G_Pheno or GrieferPheno, Ill edit when I figure it out

Oh righttttttttttttt, From US so idk if we can play?
I think we should be able to. From what I recall, Ive played with a french person before
Although Im free of work for the week, I have lots of hw

I just had to stop playing 3U; I fell in love with it and never played anything else! By far my favorite MH game, though I as I began to sink 100+ hours in my familiarity with how the monsters worked started eating at me. Seriously, some hitboxes were just terrible :/

i'm curious about monster hunter, but playing alone seems boring.

i've played a lot of god eater burst in the past... loved the setting and the guns. people says the gameplay is similar, but can you add NPCs in your team too?

I played the Wii version and have MH3U on 3DS. When I eventually get a WiiU, I should be able to transfer my character over and keep all my completed village quests and hunter rank, right?

I should join this thread. I've played a lot of Monster Hunter in my day, but I haven't played it in a very long time. Mostly because of my lack of next generation portable game systems.

Monster Hunter is always going to have a special place in my heart.

A-HA! So there IS a Monster Hunter thread here. I was told so, so I had to search it out.

So cozy here, so cozy.

I saw that there was a 4 Ultimate one, but thought that since this was the general one, I should go here since I only have 3 Ultimate, since 4 and 4 Ultimate aren't out in the Occident yet (and, unlike everybody else that I've ever heard from, ever, I will miss water combat).

so, I wanna become a lance knight because of..... reasons.

any tips you guys can give me?

Lance is one of the weapons that I'm better with, since I always play defensively anyways. And that is an important thing to keep in mind - it is probably THE best defensive weapon class. Use it as such.

Also, use the back-hop at the end of pretty much every series of triple-thrusts - since the straight and angled thrusts are the two main things that one should use when Lancing - since the back-hop cancels out the fairly long end-lag of the thrusts.

It is best to try to use the sideways variants of the back-hops - side-steps, I guess - because it is usually better to be pressed right up against the monster when attacking it; being pressed right up against it helps with the specific timing of the evasive hop invincibility, and, if evading isn't your strength, it helps lessen the block-stun of blocking since you will be hit by the move earlier.

The charge is usually only useful for when a monster is tripped.

Make good use of the counter. It is amazing when used properly and can be used to help stop charging monster from messing up your positioning if you counter the charge - the counter-attack will usually miss - and cancel the end-lag with a back-hop or side-step.

The advancing shield-bash is so-so, it isn't bad, but it doesn't do much. It's pretty much just used to add slight damage after the blocking-dash.

The horizontal swipe is almost solely used for swatting away small monsters.

There is very little reason to not be blocking while walking while fighting a monster, unless you're using them sweet hops.

So, in general, triple-thrusts are your main attack and you should usually hop-cancel them at the end, counter when you need to, and block with that beautiful shield.

Dash Juice, Mega Dash Juice, and a Constitution skill are very good when used in conjunction with a Lance.

Started with Tri on the Wii here. Only put about 300h into that one, with maybe 100h or so from online (the rest offline cuz I'm a scrub). I have a 3DS now and I want to get 3U mostly out of nostalgia, but I'm really looking forward to 4U and online. I don't have a Wii U and won't be able to afford one anytime soon, so there's that. At this point I feel like it's not worth it to bother with FU or to try and import P3rd either but I need something to scratch the itch soon or I'll go nuts.

I mostly play hammer, but I secretly like to use LS when solo.

Between Wii U and 3DS I probably have about 450 hours or so put into MH3U. I'd be up for some hunts sometime.

I'll probably get 4 on the 3DS. though my only experience is just Freedom Unite.

Ditto, but I enjoyed it so much that I had to go back and play the older ones. But most of the older ones had such broken hit-boxes and dumb A.I. that it felt kind of weird going back, since I definitely felt the "going back" part of it. Still enjoyable, but not nearly as much as the 3 Ultimate that I have had since it came out (Plesioth hit-boxes are still broken though, I guess that's just tradition now).

I swear I am going to spend hours just goofing around with the new climbing mechanics in 4 Ultimate.

Hammer be good. But gross, Long Sword - it's not bad, it's just kind of boring for me. Stab, uppercut, overhead slice, and repeat. Fade Slash to end a combo if you need to evade. Mash out a Spirit Combo when you've got the meter for it. It always just feels like going through the motions for me, I wish they'd give it a few new maneuvers since it literally only has four and they're all fairly similar.

I only have Wii U, but I think I've got around one thousand hours in (that may be a tad high, I don't recall). I usually get on at least once a week, so I'd be up for some elemental-dinosaur slaughtering fun.

is MH3 on the 3ds compatible with the right analog stick add on thingy?

im pretty sure that the thing was made pretty much specifically for MH but it doesnt allow you to use it in the demo version.

is there anybody who has the slider pad who can confirm if it makes the game easier to play. i found having to use the L trigger to retarget the monsters all the time kind of annoying and was hoping to pick one up once MH4 comes out.

Well when I'm not playing LS or Hammer I tend to go Switch Axe, but the pressure of being the guy who cuts the tail does get to me sometimes.

About the Circle Pad Pro, I'm pretty sure it works with MH4. They're showing it off with MH4 in this video:

I'm thinking of getting MH3U for the 3DS once I get some more money in my luxury fund.
Does anybody know if that Circle Pad Pro thing is a necessity for playing?

Also just for fun, try to guess what kind of weapon I use. Each person only gets one guess.
In order to answer this question correctly you need to ask yourself, "What kind of guy is Zen?"
"What kind of weapon would a fearless and bad-ass guy like him use?"

From the ton of people that I've seen talk about how much easier 3 Ultimate is with the Circle Pad Pro, I would have to assume that it can be used with it. The demo did confuse me on that too though, you're not alone in that.

Having a main, in anything, is for weenies, and 'Zen is not a weenie (I know this because 'Zen likes Beowulf), so the obvious answer is "every weapon." Unless 'Zen IS a weenie. -Gasp!-

Hammer? Because hard hitting and decently fast impacts, Beowulf style.

I appreciate the compliments, but sorry you're wrong.
It is not a hammer.

YOU ONLY GET ONE GUESS DUMBASS, you are still wrong on both accounts.

i would assume that you are using it for moving the camera, and after being used to playing the wii version, i found it really cumbersome to keep track of the bosses most of the time when you cant manually control the camera. In particular any boss that has any kind of lunge/charge attack, all of a sudden they are behind you and you cant preemptively start adjusting the camera to punish them.

i used the switch axe and the katana thing a lot in MH3, although after a while i did feel like i was just going through the motions of either powering up the katana and going nuts or charging up the axe.

im definately going to experiment with the weapon sets more in MH4. One thing is for certain though is that i LOVE using the querpeco armour for the extra I frames you get on rolls. there is nothing quite like seeing all of your team mates backing away/blocking and looking for openings while you get to stay in close proximity at all times and just fuckin roll through everything the boss throws at you. even more so when peeps are like "LOL, quepeco armour? get good noob."

Figuring the timings for each bosses attacks is definately one of the most enjoyable things for me in that game.

whoops. my bad. I didn't catch the last part about one guess Zen.

Greatsword? That's what I use. Waiting until the perfect opening, charging up a level 3 slash, inflicting major damage and occasionally getting a flinch, or even better, a break? Very satisfying.

Nooooooope, I'll give y'all a hint though.
The answer will surprise you.

I find that camera controlling is what ends up usually separating the people who get good at the game and the people who show little improvement, judging from what I've witnessed with my friends.

Switch Axes were just awful in the original Tri, since they were first introduced there and not fully balanced yet.

I prefer evading without use of Evasion Up skills, makes you feel like a champion. Roll through Deviljho dragon-breath and laugh it off. Feels sooo good.

you control the action with your mind?
Will isn't the hint, I was just emphasizing it.

damn i thought i had it for sure too.

I'm going to bed, I'll reveal the mystery tomorrow if nobody gets it.

You modded The Hurting into the game and main it now. Mystery solved everybody, we can all drop it now.

So glad I brought this thread back from the dead for five people to enjoy. Totally worth it. Sarcasm not included.
