Since there isnt really a thread to talk about music in general I decided to make one but like the general rule is dont bash any one's music tastes (unless they like Iggy)

so yah for me I really like listening to Sia a lot, her last album was a cool return to her roots after the one before, "We are born", which was a mostly all super pop type album thing. but 1000 forms of fear is great and stuff and i'm glad that Sia has become a much bigger star and getting the credit she deserves after having so many other great albums and what not. Im loving the PinkPrint by Nicki Minaj, it is really personal to her but it also has a lot of fun songs that Nicki has been known for like "the night is still young" and "Anaconda". Marina and the Diamond's "FROOT" is also a great album

I dont think this violates forum rules as long as we refrain from dumping musics and posting illegal musics
 
Yeah as long as nobody decides to spam with just links to videos, illegal downloads, or shameless self advertising (btw my mixtake is fire) it'll be fine

On topic however, yes Sia's newest album is great! She's been a very consistent artist with lots of talents for a plethora of years now.
Also I'm so impressed with Nicki's new album, she's really made a comeback and been awesome this year.

Edit: I might as well be a little bit more constructive.

Lately I've been loving Jamie xx's new album In Colour, and I actually think this is a great album for people still new to electronic music, especially people with a pop background. Overall, it's a good album, but the first 3 tracks are standouts to me and the rest is slightly more average.

I'm really looking forward to Four Tet's new album Morning/Evening, releasing early July. I'm a huge fan of FT's earlier work, not so much his recent stuff, but SeeSaw, the song he co-produced on In Colour, is really good and gives me high hopes for the new LP.

Also Shlohmo dropped a new album, Dark Red, recently and it's pretty good, no match for his first one though.

I mostly listen to classic rock from the 70-90's on the radio. I like Queen, Boston, Thin Lizzy, Blue Oyster Cult, Led Zeppelin, The Cars, etc. etc.

Dabble a bit in Metal too from time to time, though like the above, I prefer the oldschool/classic stuff. Iron Maiden is probably my favorite.

Honestly, aside from a few tracks it feels kinda soulless compared some of the future garage Jamie took inspiration from like Burial. It's not bad, but I can't see myself playing it over Untrue or In Fine Style or something. I felt the same way about the Xx in regards to dream pop and don't listen to that much bleep-bloop music so this might just be me being stubborn.
 
I listen to a lot of 80's stuff. Mostly metal. I love playing music, too. I've been playing piano my entire life and I also know how to play the guitar and cello.

To be honest I'm losing interest in it quickly. It sounds innovative at first listen, but there's just not enough there to keep me interested for very long. I don't consider it future garage so much, maybe Sleep Sound, but overall it's just really unique and decently creative house music.

Classic Rock ( dad rock ) is probably my favorite genre as of the past 3-4 years. Led Zeppelin probably being my favorite band, and in my opinion the best group of all time. I have a lot of respect for the Beatles as well, they came first and were insanely inspirational and helped form Rock ( and many other genres ) as we know it today, but they simply aren't my cup of tea therefore I have to put Led Zeppelin first, but realistically they are probably #1.

Otherwise, I will pretty much listen to anything that has a catchy sound, this can range from hip hop to heavy metal to heavy trance to classical. In college I used to always listen to Classical music when studying, the lack of lyrics and soothing instruments were perfect for me. I pretty much stay away from Country because well, I haven't heard any that sounds good to me yet.

Some of my other top pics from various genres:
- System of a Down ( i prefer the older stuff )
- Rush
- Carlos Santana
- Sonata Arctica - Finnish Heavy Metal band, 50% slow ballads 50% speed metal
- Curren$y - i think he has one of the best flows
- Wu-Tang, more specifically GZA

- Immortal Technique
- Aesop Rock

those are just a few that come to mind
 
also random trivia in case anyone cares - 'Thriller' from Michael Jackson is the #1 best selling album of all time
 
I stumbled on Ken Ashcorp a little while back and I just can't stop listening to his stuff. Absolute Territory has some clever lyrics that just tickle my fancy.

This thread appeals to my interests.

I'm definitely into the more "out there" stuff, though I'm open to listening (and liking) anything.

Recently, I've been listening to a lot of Thom Yorke, specifically the Atoms for Peace album "Amok". I also recently found out about the group Melt-Banana and have had their latest album, "Fetch", on replay the past few weeks. The new album from The Aristocrats just dropped this week too, and it's amazing and insane as usual. Will probably be listening to that a ton over the next good while. (For clarification, I'm talking about the musical power trio, I think there's an indie rock group with a similar name that people always think I'm talking about when I mention them).

My man. Melt Banana is some legit shit. They have a backlog worth digging through too, Cell Scape and Bambi's Dilemma are really solid noise rock albums. I'd also recommend listening to Boredoms and Boris if you want more Japanese noise rock.

Also if anyone's never done it, listen to Thriller from front to back sometime. It's the best selling album of all time for a reason, it's really fucking good.
 
If you wants some amazing wubwubs check out the Halo 4 remixed soundtrack, it's by far the most unappreciated album ever made, like ever.
It's got something for everyone, even if you don't like wubdubs.

I like techno (Madeon is best songmang) and very much like orchestrations more than lyric based songs.

Basically, beat is my thing. Why I love gaming and anime music more than most.

Thank god now I can come out of the closet and say that Im a fan of My Chemical Romance.

But other than I listen to alot of different types of music but mainly hard rock and speed metal. Things like Queen, metallica, stratovarius, ETC.

But I also really enjoy gorillaz and beastie boyz. And as far as game OSTs go in my book, NOTHING beats the GGX2 OSTs and KOF96 OST
 
MRC gets a bad rap because of how often it was mentioned in 'My Immortal.' Gotta give them props for refusing to record a song for the Twilight movies, and then recording a song dissing the people who did (that sounds a bit like The Sweet's Ballroom Blitz to boot).

As for other music, I've been on an X Japan kick that I can't get out of.

So far I've been listening to the Defenders of Faith album for weeks on end at the moment. Something about that album has so much energy that it really resonates with me, not that I've listened to other albums frequently for months.

Hoping there's someone still interested in this thread, because I kind of want this to still be alive.

So, I listen to a lot of different things. Through my mother I mainly grew up on quirky alternative music, mainly They Might Be Giants (I still like them, though some of it admittedly might be nostalgia.) and Oingo Boingo, as well as Nirvana, with a few other songs here and there that showed up on the radio when we weren't playing a tape (anybody remember those) or a CD in the car. Through my paternal grandmother, and for one week my maternal grandfather, I listened to a lot of older stuff from the doo-wop and early rock 'n' roll days, though I can't remember a song or artist name for the life of me.

Naturally, as I grew older, my horizons have expanded to include a lot of other kinds of music. So, it's probably easier to name some of the bands that I listen to: Machinae Supremacy, Zebrahead, CHON, Alestorm, FACT, Motion City Soundtrack, Lite, This Town Needs Guns, Hands Like Houses, Enter Shikari, Streetlight Manifesto, Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas (yes, that's what they called their band), Ling Tosite Sigure, etc. There's a lot more names that I could go through, but I think I've proven the point that my tastes are fairly diverse.

Also, I hold myself to a very specific code, where if I haven't listened to/liked at least an album's worth of a band's or artist's music, I won't say that I like them; I kind of want to avoid being someone who says they like an artist or band when I only one or two songs by them. That's just a personal thing, though, and I don't hold anyone else to it, because that would be rude. :P

Dance Gavin Dance, I like and I'm very fond of. Haven't listened to or even heard of Wagakki yet, but after looking them up I'm definitely gonna give them a try, because they seem interesting enough. :)

Just curious: which of Dance Gavin Dance's singers do/did you prefer? Just asking out of curiosity.
