After a good response to this thread, me and @Mr Peck have organised a UK SG meetup in the Heart of Gaming arcade in London!

Some details:
  • Entrance to the HoG is £10 on saturdays
  • Overnight sessions are available on Fridays and Saturdays and require a minimum of 10 people and cost £10 per person, which beats hotels clean out of the water for the price. I have been told that there are enough people doing this every week outside of our group.
  • We will be playing Skullgirls on PS3's. There are also classic arcade cabinets and console setups. Hardware list here and software list here.
  • Me and @Mr Peck will be hosting a double elimination tournament with £5 buyin, with prize spot split to 1st and 2nd by 70/30.
  • There isn't food supplied in the arcade, so bring money to get food at the cafe or supermarket close by (or bring your own food)

That's it, I hope you can make it + meet us there!

I look forward to finally playing Offlinegirls with you lot

Still checking flight prices and all to see if I can make it there without having to eat potatos for the rest of my life...

Anyone living or driving near one of the London airports? It seems like my best options would be toward Southend or Stansted, but it's still more than 100km away from the HOG...

If some of you guys have secret ways with public transports, I will gladly take any advice.

What about: "Do I know you ?" ;D

I'll try to be there. Which airport is the closest to the destination ?

I personally can't help you get there since I'm taking a train there. I don't know if anyone's driving there but I can ask around and let them know you could use a lift?

Heathrow airport. There's a 15 minute train journey followed by a 4 minute tube journey to the arcade.

So do you pay £10 to get in and £5 to enter the tournament?
Also, does the tournament start at 12:00PM or do you have to enter then and then the tournament starts at 15:00PM or is it something else because I'm not sure.

Yes, it's £10 to get into the HOG, pay at the door I think. £5 will most likely be the buy in for the tournament, unless it violates arcade policy, in which case we will just do a free one. I will contact them about it to make sure. The tournament's going to start at 15:00PM, and you can turn up from 12PM (that's when the arcade opens)

What time do I need to enter by?

I'll attend if I can get time off of work. Are arcade sticks required?

No, but bring your own controller/stick since that's what I'm doing!

I don't usually play with a gamepad, but I guess it saves bringing my keyboard :PUN:

The current time for this is 12:00PM but this isn't strict. You can fill in after 12PM, just make sure you get there before the tournament starts. We might tweak the start time and tournament time a bit so it works better with an overnight session (wouldn't want to play skullgirls much after 12 hours of it, I guess?)

So I'll just turn up at 12:00PM and wait for it to start while practicing and getting to know the competition, sounds like a way to meet some people who actually know what Skullgirls is (that I haven't met over PSN).

I might go there. My Skullgirls is stupidly rusty, due to me focusing on 3S to the detriment of every other game that I play. But I still want to show up and lose to Mr. Peck!

Out of curiosity, how many of you would do the overnight session?

Overnight meaning being there until 9AM the next day?

Sure, so long as I can get time off of work

The tournament will only last until 00:00AM right?
No, the tournament will probably last from anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour depending on how many people come. We will play casuals after that until 12am, as that's when the arcade closes. I can imagine that some people might want to go back before then so that's fine.

Well we have 7 yes's so we're doing good so far!
Maybe put round flyers?

Will Annie be there?

no

Somebody asked me to ask the skullgirls twitter guys to retweet our event, but that's kind of pushing it if you ask me.

If this is no place for Annie, then this is no place for me.

I share your pain brother! All I ever wanted was Annie and Sagan and I was denied my dreams! We need to go to another universe where she won the poll, put the data on a memory stick and come back!

It actually rather pisses me off that out there is another version of me who got her! How I envy...me?

Why is no one viewing this anymore?

The UK skullgirls scene is pretty small? You could ask around via whatever, but we didn't expect a giant amount of people to go.

But what I was asking was where did all the others go?

Somewhere... else? The event will be shown on the front page of skullheart in the "upcoming events" box soon, so we might get a few people who missed the initial announcement.

I was able to get the 25th off of work, however I couldn't get the 26th as well. Since I want to head to MCM I'll be heading up there and will attend Heart of Gaming later in the day. I hope arriving 4-5 PM ish is okay for you guys? :PUN:

(Is a late entry to the tournament alright?)

I don't think late entries would work, since it could mess up brackets. We could perhaps start the tournament a little later, or do it when everyone shows up.

I would be able to arrive around 5

I'll check around to see when everyone's arriving and see if a later tournament will work.

It's alright. I don't think we'll change it, probably better not to. You can still stick around for the matches afterwards though!
