Platinum Games

Okay, here it is, some gameplay footage from Scalebound.

Gameplay, i really like the idea of controlling the dragon and the guy at the same time, framerate, looks bad right now, but that can be fixed, with Kamiya as director i am not worried about that really. (but we know that the game will have framedrops anyway. =P)

And i'm surprised, is more of an action rpg thing than the usual Platinum Action. =P

So he's more like Nero. Left hand sword, crazy right arm thing.
What's throwing me off is that the dude has a shield on his back. I really hope that's not just an aesthetic thing. Not that I ever use shields, but seriously I want it to have a purpose.

Telling the dragon what target to attack is probably better and more interactive than what Drakenguard 2 did: Jump on the dragon and you're practically untouchable. Plus you can actually see the dragon wreak havoc.

Having it rpg style has me excited on how they're going to do a skill tree.

SOMEONE GET THAT MAN A WONDER MASK!

it looks neat.

i just want to see how much more variety there is in the gameplay.

but dragons are rad so its already pretty cool.

What really bugs me are the sci-fi elements. The game definately leans heavily on the fantasy designs, so much so that when I saw him put on the headphones I got confused. Heck, the robot-like spawning pods for the enemy soldiers looked like they fit in until it zoomed in. Right now, the sci-fi and fantasy clash heavily.

Gameplay looks fun though.

Something that pleases me is how the swing of the sword leaves a blue trail, it is easy to know the range of the stuff.

Coop seems cool, i just hope i can choose the other characters for the single player game also.

Not totally sold on the MC's design, but I could see myself coming to like him.

What bugs me a little is how everything looks hugely wide open. Makes sense for the dragon, but it makes the combat for the little dude look/seem a little slow paced compared to Platinum's usual stuff.

One thing i found cool in the 8 min video on ign here, is that in some places, the dragon's movement, gets limited, and for that reason he stays flying around and attacking.

The other thing, is that the protagonist, has some sort of hook, so he is able to use that as a gap closer somehow.

I'd rather it be a Yoko Taro game with Platinum quality gameplay.

Though in fairness, given the past, cutting people into bits and ingesting their spines wouldn't be out of place.

I've never played any of Yokos games, what are they like?

all you need to know that in drakengard is that your main party consists of a mass murdering maniac, a genocidal dragon, a pedophile, a woman that eats babies, and a small child
also your sister wants to bang you

Nier is a lot better to actually play.

Drakengard 3 is solid. Not great but mildly entertaining if you don't mind it being a tad repetitive.

Also Drakengard 1's story has more going for it then just being weird. It's actually a dark satire of rpg game conventions. It's to rpg's what Watchmen is to super heroes basically: showing how fucked up these tropes would be if you had them play out in real life (ie a protaganist who indiscriminately murders millions in order to power up and achieve his own singular goal).

MGR2 gameplay with Cavia story telling would be great though.

Sounds perfect for platinum!
Yeah, that's what I was going with.

Though that said, Nier isn't like that, Nier for one has one of the greatest soundtracks of all time, and has a more... understandable plot, people should check out Nier, the gameplay is pretty forgettable but there is a lot of stuff going on in the story and it certainly has one of the more interesting twists, and true endings in gaming. It's better not to spoil yourself if you ever plan to check it out though.

I actually kinda liked Drakengard 1's music......

Nier also liked jumping into a bunch of different genres/styles randomly. (text adventure, ho!)

Damn, now i need a ps4

Good quality trailer

Well, it's definitely Rising 2. Apparently most of the team is Bayo team, according to some articles. #fuckgamesjournalism

I'm extremely excited either way, and this is supposed to be pretty early footage which I hope is the case, I love Rising but it was so unfinished it was depressing.

For what Rising was, it was extremely good. If this game is more polished, it could possibly outdue rising...

I'll be honest, i don't know anything about Nier other than is a rpg done by square, and some stuff that people talk about some characters, but i'm really excited for this game...

First, is developed by platinum, and while i love platinum and this would be reason enough, bayonetta 2 left me a little, underwhelmed.

Second, it is a rpg, and i love rpgs.

Third, the trailer convinced me.

4th - I'm really curious and excited about the mixture between crazy action and rpg in this level, while scalebound looks great, it is mostly rpg.

And i really enjoy this main character.

That was the point I was trying to make, Rising had what, 8 months of actual dev time? Metal Gear Rising is a game I have put a ton of time into and nearly any flaw I can think of with it really was something that felt like it was "oh, they didn't have time to make this work [better]",

The trailer is great, it looks like Nier and some of the gameplay stuff is very obviously Nier, but everything 2B is doing is literally just Raiden animations recycled. And you know what? I'm completely fine with the game being what MGR was supposed to be if it had actual dev time, I just don't want it to just be MGR. Giving her all of Raiden's moves is fine, as long as there is a hell of a lot more there as well.

"It was a bit of an experiment really," says Taro. "I remember at the time thinking modern games, they're really well made and they've got so much love and time put into making them expansive and great, but once you've played most of them for 30 minutes you get an idea what they're like right to the end, and that's a bit boring. You're not going to see anything new after that. I decided we're going to keep mixing it up and changing the gameplay styles and try to achieve that with Nier.

Nier Automata, of course, will carry on providing those sudden shifts "The basic framework of the game is similar to the first," explains Taro. "You've got action bits and you've got adventuring and exploration as well. When I first got the request to set the game up from Saito-san, he requested a more action type of game, but I personally wanted to make something that was closer to Ocarina of Time, where you've got lots of field areas and you travel and do battle. I thought it was a really natural, really nice way for the game to be, so I tried to twist his brief to make it more of the kind of thing I wanted to make, and I think I've got it more of mine than his."

My goodness. NieR is $35 on Amazon. I wonder how much it sold for before the sequel announcement.

Like $15~$20. It is technically not the easiest game to find, though not particularly bad either.

Yay, another bayonetta clone...

I honestly don't like this relationship between activision and platinum.

They gave budget to transformers but didn't gave budget for korra.

I don't see the problem here. We got the greatest Transformers game ever made out of the deal, so much better than the boring War for Cybertron games. The way they incorporate vehicle combat is highly inspired, the customization is deep and the G1 inspired designs are most welcome. I can see Hasbro wanting the Generations look to keep with the toyline and Platinum suggesting they go retro.

The Korra game was a fun budget title, but so what? Any other company would have done much worse with what they were given. For example, that terrible Ninja Turtles game from a few years ago. This new one will be way better than that no doubt.

If licensed game fatigue is taking over then yeah skip it, but the game was going to be made either way. I rather a highly skilled team make a game that does the franchise justice over the alternative licensed garbage we would have to put up with.

text.

I think that my problem is that they set the bar too high with Bayonetta 1 and Wonderful 101.

I understand platinum doing those licensed games, and i support it, and as far as i know, transformers is a very good game.

But, i hope to get something mind blowing and incredible like the original bayonetta, or w101 like i said, and while i have really high hopes for Nier Automata and Scalebound, those games are rpgs, so, i'm thirsty for something great happening in the character action stuff.

Can I just point out that the TMNT game got Rated M in Australia, which means that it probably has blood in it?

This means they're probably going to base this off the Mirage Comics no less which I'll gladly welcome.

if Raph isn't the best character in the game, so help me god.

would definitely be the first time Raph's been the best, that's for sure :V
