A big thanks to everyone who showed up to participate in Skullgirls at So Cal Regionals. Being featured in a major was great, but we can't stop there. If you want to see Skullgirls appear at more majors, go out to tournaments and show that there's enough interest in this game! The only way the big streamers will take this game seriously is if they see big attendance numbers, so go out there and show up to your local scene! Check the Events tab to see if there is anything happening close to you.

In other news, a decent amount of updates below the break:

  • Console Builds
    • Both versions of the console build are now in test.
  • General Gameplay
    • burst mechanics
      • Bursting before 90 frames is punishable.
      • Bursting after 90 frames is 'free'. (Working on finding out a way to add effects which indicate this)
  • Ms. Fortune
    • Fortune's j.hp is two frames faster on startup
      • 275 less damage
      • Can now instant overhead with it
      • Can cross-up with it slightly better now
      • No longer combos into Spike
    • Fortune's s.hp is two frames faster on startup
    • Can no longer combo off Fortune's ground super (head-on)
      • Can cancel the end of the super into head call
    • Fixed a bug where chaining from fiber upper into j.hk resulted in a red bounce
  • Squigly
    • Squigly's ground techs had the echo removed from her voice lines
    • Regular stance startup draugen punch is not invincible
    • HP draugen punch can't be held down
      • If level 2 is charged, HP Draugen Punch is completely invincible up through all three of the active frames
  • Big Band
    • All of Big Band's frames have been colored
    • Altered Beat Extend frame data (on block)
      • standing: lp -16, mp -20, hp -24
      • crouching: lp -23, mp -26, hp -28
    • j hk. is more punishable on block
    • Level 5 is now comboable/DHC-able
    • Fixed the echo on level 5
 
Both versions of the console build are now in test

I honestly have no idea what it is, I think it's just MS making triple sure they are legally covered so they don't anger the people making MGS.

No. The turn-around time isn't that fast at Microsoft or Sony. When we have a specific release date, you'll hear about it. ;D

I really really like this update. Best update so far... Primarily talking about the fortune buffs AND nerfs. It is literally perfect. Though i do wish she could receive a frame or 2 buff on j.hk.

That pre/post 90f burst thing is pretty interesting. Not sure if I like it, but I haven't tried it so I'll hold judgement till I do!
 
Doesn't matter if you (or anyone else) like it - if I don't do it, there are burst-safe infinites. It prevents that while being the least-intrusive change otherwise and still allowing burst baits.

Nah it's more than likely that Microsoft are run by monkeys. I've seen how they treat indie devs before. I don't know why you continue to bother at this point Mike.

I'd assume the easiest way to make the effects indicate that the burst is safe is having the burst sparks as a different color. Red is taken by repeating chains, green is for when drama is maxed and will override IPS sparks, blue can override green and red sparks to indicate a safe burst, if necessary.

It's not the most elegant but it's something.

I know you guys don't want to give people wrong info and are waiting on Sony of Europe to get their stuff together but I was hoping that after the vanilla SG 6 month delay, they would have learned something about this business. Might as well just skip to the Big Build.

By Venus' lacy unmentionables! I genuinely believe they made a European branch for the sole purpose of screwing us over because I am yet to see what they actually do right. -_-"

How about the burst sparks turn blue when your burst becomes free?
Or maybe the undizzy bar changes colour?

That possibility exists, yes. I keep givin' 'em builds, whichever one they end up submitting is what people will get. The builds I'm givin' 'em from now on do have Big Band.

My current situation doesn't allow me to record videos (renting a place and I haven't setup my rig and internet yet) so sorry if I miss (at least) a couple of saltys from now on.

They are being very careful by now on announcing stuff and won't jump the gun unless 100% confirmation was understood. XBL patch meanwhile is lost in the twilight zone.

They are being very careful by now on announcing stuff and won't jump the gun unless 100% confirmation was understood. XBL patch meanwhile is lost in the twilight zone.

Mostly. We're submitting the Xbox360 version for testing any day now - Mike's actually been providing builds for weeks now, but MS hasn't given the green light to testing until recently - and if the first submission of Encore doesn't pass, then we'll resubmit a version that includes Big Band. That means it's entirely possible that BB and Squigly could get released at the same time on Xbox360. That's assuming the initial submission doesn't pass cert testing, though, and we'd certainly prefer that it passed. :P

I know you guys always wait until things are set in stone. It's not you I doubt but Sony of Europe. Forgive my skepticism but as a European gamer, I've witnessed my fair share of adamant claims crumble into dust.
In any case, I'll count myself content for the delay not being nearly half as bad as the vanilla release. Guess Sony of Europe really did learn something out of that experience.
 
FWIW, they promised us it would be earlier but we didn't get confirmation, so we didn't say anything.
If we said something, then it has already been confirmed with us.
