Shantae: Half-Genie Hero - Kickstarter

So, WayForward is doing a kickstarter for an HD Shantae game.

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Kickstarter

The game will takes cues from Metroid, Zelda and Castlevania, and will feature an all-new art style and story. WayForward have set their funding goal at $400,000. This, they say, will allow them to create three chapters of the game and an “exciting conclusion”.

With the help of stretch goals, however, they hope to add more features, such as being able to play as Shante’s arch-nemesis, Risky Boots, and a bonus chapter to play through. I'm definitely on board. I'm a fan of the games and the new theme by Jake Kaufman is already becoming a favorite of mine. I'll support this as much as I can.​

Our goal is to introduce Shantae to a whole new audience with a fresh art style and a brand spanking new storyline. As always, we're putting pitch perfect controls in the front seat.
So judging by this bit, this is going to be a reboot of sorts? That's what I'm getting from it anyway. At the end of Risky's Revenge...
Shantae loses her genie powers, making her human.
So if it isn't a reboot, that would mean it takes place before Risky's Revenge, or it might take place after Pirate's Curse assuming it undoes what happens at the end of Risky's Revenge.

It's more than likely after Pirate's Curse, most likely.
Because we all know how that's gonna end!

Honestly I can't help but feel a little worried about how much the existence of Mighty No. 9's Kickstarter might affect this game's funding. I'm looking forward to that game too, but the timing is somewhat unfortunate.

I've seen that same worry from a few other people and it reminds that someone mentioned that Wayforward had apparently tweeted: "Welp," when the MN9 Kickstarter was first launched. I feel a little bad for them since they had been teasing something kickstarter related for a while so people knew that was coming but then MN9 got announced and pretty much took all of the attention away from it.
The good thing though is that it's at least off to a pretty good start and with Cristina Vee having provided her musical talents to their kickstarter video, I think they won't have much problem at getting enough interest to at least hit their funding goal. They're also in pretty good standing with the gaming public from what I noticed, not to mention that many game sites have already carried their kickstarter announcement to help garner more interest.
I've actually never played any of the Shantae games but I do like Wayforward so I do wish them the best with this.

Always felt that WayFoward would be the best company to "revive" the Mega Man franchise. theyr 2d side scrolling are top notch.

still, spent everything i could on mighty nº 9 so i won't be able to help'em now... Because inafune himself is reviving mega man "soul".

i feel horrible about it... damn

I never said I hated all the costumes. I love them all. It was just that the Patricia Wagon costume took me by surprise.

I knew what you meant. I was mostly trying to make a funny. They all look great. Wayforward already has my seal of approval..... again... for like.... the 20th time.

It's cool though. I hope we get a Luna (Mighty Milky Way) alternate down the road. I would lose it if we did.

So, I went ahead and pledged $110 to Half-Genie Hero. Figured they could use it more than Mighty No. 9 at this point.

it wasnt so much a question on your loyalty to developers in need, it was more of a "where do you get $2,500 to spend on kickstarters?"

I have two jobs and, out of both, I make about $8,700 a month.

Certainly blows my part time job out of the water. a little over $200 a month since they cut my hours.

I love Wayforward and have heard great things about the series and just realized that I have exactly $5 in my eshop account which is enough to buy the first game, so for those who have played the first one, is it worth it?

It's a lost gem and a good one at that. It's 2D side scroll goodness. Plus, the amount of sprite work put into this game, pushed on the GBC's hardware, makes you surprised that this is a GBC to begin with. So, yes, I recommend this if your a fan of 2D side scrollers like Castlevania & Metroid.

Planning to get all three.
I'd say the first one is worth it, but I haven't played it.
Seems like it's the bee's knees though!

Like Zeriam said, its a lost gem. but I prefer to think that its surprising it isn't a GBA game.
